Well, it appeared as if everything was going to be okay. Yes, the girl had gotten hurt but she'd be fine in the end. Though Koruso did feel pretty bad about it. He watched the man get taken away, and he'd turned around to start walking home, only to feel a sharp whack to his forehead. "Ow!" Koruso grunted out in surprise, his right hand instinctivly forming a few small sparks as he prepped for a counter attack. That was, however, until he saw that it was the Hero from earlier who was in front of him. His hand relaxed, his Quirk deactivating. Chameleon held out his hand, and at first Koruso was wondering if he was asking for payment. That didn't make sense, though. He should get payed by his Hero office, right? Then it hit him. A license. The Hero license. Koruso, of course, didn't have one. He wasn't technically a Hero yet. Koruso sighed, looking away. "You're asking if I have a license, aren't you?" He'd ask, shaking his head. "I don't have one." He pulled up his hand, looking down at it. "I was actually planning on applying for UA... I want to become an actual Hero, same as you. Can I ask you something, personally?" "Do you remember a villain named Una Bomber?" Una Bomber was a male Villain who was a demolitions man for a villain team about twenty years ago. After serving his scentence after being caught, he'd gone out of the spotlight. Though most heros knew he'd met his end by his own child. |

"..." Chameleon seemed disappointed and somewhat angry that the kid didn't have a license. It meant that he was just going around willy nilly trying to be a hero for heroism's sake. The idea was admirable in a sense. Going vigilante style and hunting heroes down was something akin to self-training. Something that Chameleon and people of his office believed in. Still, this wasn't the right way of going about things. Working in this way could get himself nd others hurt even if he didn't mean to. That's where a brilliant education came in, he was glad to hear that the kid was considering going into U.A. if he worked hard and honed his skill enough then height go places. He nodded seemingly content with the answer provided, though that didn't change the fact that he still gave the child a stern stare afterwards as if to discourage such actions again. Upon hearing the boy's question he shook his head. Perhaps it was because he was from a younger generation, or that he didn't bother with issues of the past. But the name didn't seem to spark any special thoughts in his head. Perhaps chief or Huntress knew about it but he honestly couldn't think much about the name aside from whatever passing words he heard about it. Some rumor about the guy getting killed by his own son, or something about that. He raised an eyebrow, curious as to why he was bringing that up anyway. Did he have some vendetta about it? Was he one bout some revenge plot? He coulda sworn that person these days had crazy motivations for these types of things. |

Koruso sighed some as Chameleon shook his head. "He was my dad. Was." Koruso said, making sure to emphasize the last word in the sentence. "When I was a kid, my dad used to beat me up pretty bad. He said he was training me, trying to make me stronger. I can only imagine he wanted me to become a villain like him. I even have the same Quirk that he had..." He said, looking down to his hand. A small explosion went off. "Explosions. I can create them through my sweat. Pretty cool... and really dangerous if I lose control, too." "I'm not naive enough to think that there isn't a certain stigma that comes with being a Villains son. Especially when I killed him in self defense..." His body started shaking some. It was the only thing he could do to not break down. "I didn't mean to kill him, honestly. I just... I just snapped! He hurt my mom and... and..." He rubbed his eyes, taking a few deep breaths. There wasn't really any more he could say without crying. "My point is... Do you think there's any point? You're a Hero, you've been at this far longer than I have... Do you think I'd have a shot of being a Hero at all? I know it's hard, I know I'll have to prove myself, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes!" |

"Ugh..." A soft groan escaped through Chameleon's mask as he saw the distressed child cry out his woes. Chameleon didn't want to deal with crying kids. He wasn't good at giving long encouraging speeches about how people could change or stuff like that. Really no one in the office was known for their narrative abilities, they just trained in solitude and managed to get things done on their own. But he figured that he had some sort of responsibility to make sure that this kid didn't go home feeling like he was doomed to become some explosive villain like his father. He jabbed the kid in the chest lightly, then set the boys posture so that he was standing tall with his chin up and his chest out. He could cry if he wanted to, emotions were things that made us human after all. But there was no need to be hunched over and ashamed because of those feelings. He pulled out a card, though the card itself had no words, information, or data on it. The card was just an image of their office's logo if the kid was willing to do some research on his own or heck even knew about his office he'd understand what the card meant. Strength Through Self Self was an important factor in their line fo work. One's sense of self would determine their own strength. Relying on others, asking for help, comparing oneself with another in fear would only lead to one's self-being weaker. That would go for this kid, he was his own man. A self that was determined by his own actions and decisions from this point forward. He was his own person, not an extension of his father or anyone else. That was the message he hoped to instill the boy with as he began to fade back into his surroundings. |

The man pressed his hand against Koruso's chest in a light jab, and then placed his hand on Koruso's back. His posture was straightend, standing tall with his chin up, and the he was given a card. A card with the symbol of a Hero office. He recognized the logo and knew their motto - everyone did, really. That's what happens when your office has one of the most famous heros in the world founding it. Strength through self. That was their motto. Self training, and not relying on others. While, to a degree, Koruso could agree with that, he found no shame in asking for help when one needed it. Having another to push ones self beyond the limits could make for far greater growth than anyone could ever hope to achieve alone. He stared at the card, and opened his mouth to say something before realizing that the Chameleon had left. He was shocked for a moment -- he hadn't even noticed him leaving! But then Koruso smiled, sliding the card into his pocket and turning, beginning to walk home. Chameleon was right. Koruso was not his father, nor an extension of him. He'd burn his own path into the annals of history, whether other people approved or not. [End Thread.] |

Notes: I think what I liked the most about this thread aside from the narration is the fact that Koruso's self-doubt is blatantly obvious even when he's trying to do the right thing. His father's nature profoundly affected the youth (with good reason) and I think his initiative to seek advice or validation from another hero is very much in character and even unexpected. While the thread does involve a confrontation, I'm glad to see that wasn't all it was and that Koruso took it upon himself to seek advice from someone more experienced. |
