Dual Thread: Lounging Around the Lair; Open to Members of The Tenancy Agreement

The advent of summer while spring began to depart raised many problems for a budding villain, things often ignored in the grand scheme of things. Then again, the conception of a villain was often so biased towards particular ends of success. In the minds of many, one was either:
The lowest of the low, no more than a petty crook with delusions of grandeur.
A one man or woman army, entirely self sufficient in their means.
A true crime lord, with access to all the money, minions, and material that they could ever need.
No-one ever seemed to consider being stuck in the transition to one of those three, or the things that one had to build for themselves to become either of the latter two. Particularly on the last point, one required a base of operations, and moreover, a base of operations that was suitable for operations in all seasons.

Having worked on it mostly through late Autumn, the length of Winter, and then Spring, it had never quite occurred to Sabine just how stuffy her lair was. In those three seasons it made the place actually bearable, but in Summer? It could have become an oven.

A brief spike in the temperature had been what tipped Sabine off to the potentially dire consequences of not getting this matter fixed immediately. For a single day she had sweated through seemingly every pore of her body, staining one of her white dresses into more of a beige colour, and covered it in a stench that had demanded an immediate wash. The next day she'd set about looking into how she might have an air condition system installed. It was both rather simple and not, given the fact she was having to do this in part underground. Fortunately as far as she knew none of her tenants - or even the Tenants - had X-Ray vision or the like, so from the outside nothing would seem untoward, beyond the addition of an extra cooling unit. The tricky bit was going to be all the work that would have be done on the outside to make this even remotely work...

"Kasumi, how much longer until you're threaded the pipes and wires through?" Sabine called out to one her more peculiar, but presently most useful Tenants. A woman a few years older than her that had been a small time thief in her own right, but was seeking to follow in the footsteps of her father. Or something like that at least - the conversation had not been especially detailed, a tangent as they sorted out her arrangements with Sabine. While her abilities more rightfully made her a hacker, and Sabine was trying to convince Kasumi to put those skills to use for her, for now they served another important purpose - actually being able to push wires and piping through long stretches of the wall. The main unit had been mounted and was ready to go, and now they were setting up smaller units that fed into each of the smaller rooms, to maintain a stable atmosphere down in this lower level that was their lair. As such the main unit wasn't on either, leaving the occupants to sweat it out until the job was done. Sabine felt it served as an incentive, and certainly an effective one as she felt beads of sweat roll down her skin. Dressed in her sports wear, because the colour and visibility of the bra and shorts would at least remain consistent however tightly they clung, she looked as though she'd come straight from the gym. Oh, if only she could say this was because of another encounter with the Italian maiden that was at once her teacher and pupil.

“You know, this is harder than it might look,” Kasumi whined. "My Quirk is meant for messing with computers, not manual labor."

The older teen was elbow-deep in the wall, seemingly doing her best to simply feel her way through the current process. Her typically gloomy expression was replaced with one of irritation; whether it was from the heat, the work, or both was up for debate. Dressed as lightly as she was, with a tank top and a pair of shorts, Kasumi was a bit uncomfortable, but her normal hoodie would have been far too hot to bear the stuffy basement. And then she pulled her arm back out, wires and cords balling up in the vague shape of a hand once more.

"There. I'm pretty that'll do it." The small-time thief pulled her glove over the previously uncovered hand, and then turned to lean against the wall and face Sabine. "Well, here's hoping that I don't have to do that again. I'm taking a break."

Not waiting for Sabine's response, Kasumi picked herself up, pushing the hair plastered to her forehead back as she walked over to the bean bag chair and box fan she had carried down with her, falling over face-first into the "chair" and the cooler air.

It was so hot down here.

No matter how fast she waved her fan, sweat continued to drip down onto her purple-white star themed bikini. It was so evil they didn't have air conditioning.

But stuff like that, was just one more thing to mark on her list, about why moving here was a good decision. She had originally thought that villains lived in comfort, but this was the complete opposite. There was no window view of the streets, an industrial sized pool, or even their own private movie theater. No wonder people like them tended to break the laws.

Hero lairs must have way better stuff.

But then, why weren't they breaking into one? Even if some heroes did stop them, they would at least be able to cool off for a little while. Maybe one of the others were building an evil machine.

She couldn't really guess who though. Both of her roommates, and even the butlers they had, seemed to know a lot more than she did, about how stuff worked.

Curiosity got the best of her, and she placed the fan down on the bed, which she hopped off to look for the others. What kind of evil plans could they be thinking? And could she help?

Her ki blasts had to be of some use, right?

A smile started to form, and her excitement started to replace the focus originally put onto how hot it was. The lair actually wasn't that big, so it couldn't be difficult trying to find them.

Her head peeked into each of the rooms she passed, though quickly peeked out, when she didn't see anyone there. Even though the rooms so far were all dark, she still figured there was a chance they might have been using a smaller light source instead.

No electricity was even worse than heat.

Eventually, she found the others, hearing the sound of what was clearly a box fan. Kasumi-chan was laying down and not helping Miss Sabine? That wasn't really fair, was it?

But then again, they were villains...

Her eyes turned over to the older woman though, who had been left to working on everything alone. Ah, seeing her this way, she really couldn't help herself from at least offering assistance.

Waving at the woman like she did in school, when she knew the answer to a question, her chest noticeably bounced with her frantic movements.

""Miss Sabine, is there anything I can do?"

"Quirks are not 'meant' for anything - how we use them is of our own choosing." Sabine corrected her Tenant, in part to counter their claim as they why they shouldn't have been the one feeding the wires through. But she had a deeper point as well, if not directly addressed. The girl might as well have said that their abilities were not meant for crime, and in yet in either scenario, here they were. As Kasumi called out, thinking she was done, Sabine nodded, clutching the emergent pieces of hardware, even if the other girl couldn't at all see them - different rooms and all. For a moment, she wouldn't address the issue of taking a break, instead concerning herself with getting the items in front of her connected to the cooling unit...

Only to give a few grunts as, stretching the material as lightly as she could, she found it wouldn't reach all the way down. For a moment, she considered calling upon Adelle for aid, as the squirrel was surprisingly strong for its size. However, not only could Sabine not see her furry, blue companion, she began to second guess the notion when she remembered that yes, its size actually was a factor here. The squirrel would never have the height to hold up the unit so high that Sabine could actually hook it up...
Out of the corner of her eye, Sabine spotted her saviour, clad in a bikini.

"Ayame, hold this for me." Sabine told the deceptively young figure, pointing at the unit. If and when the girl came across and brought the unit in reach of its power and air supply, Sabine would connect them, and then step across to grab the drill and screws. If and when Ayame managed to connect the dots and got the unit up into place, Sabine could begin securing the unit to the wall after all the excess cabling was safely tucked back in the cavity. It had been long work, but it was going to be absolutely worth it, by Sabine's reckoning.
"I must confess..." Sabine mused in amongst all the work. "Though I don't make it a policy to ask about circumstances, I'm curious as to how a young woman like you ends up in an Agreement like mine." She said, her phrasing very particular. She didn't need to poke any potential bears here, and so her statement did not necessarily demand answer... though it would, of course, be interesting.

And for the delight of anyone wondering just where Adelle actually was, it had a similar line of thought to that of Kasumi: Lying on a bean bag, letting a wave of cool air wash across them from a box fan. In fact, it was the exact same thought, because Adelle was lying on the exact same bean bag in front of the same fan.
Needless to say, it wasn't happy to have someone falling right on top of it.
"Oo-OO!" The squirrel protested loudly, pushing up against the bosom of the girl currently crushing it from above.

When she had flopped down onto her beanbag chair, Kasumi had intended to just lay in front of the fan and relax. She had not, in fact, intended to lay down o top of her landlady's "pet". A short, shrill scream flew from the so-called computer expert's mouth as she jumped back to her feet, no mind paid to her previous heat-based exhaustion.

Kasumi put a hand over her chest, feeling her heart beat roughly a mile a minute, catching her breath and watching the blue ball of fuzz go back to relaxing on the beanbag in front of the fan. "... Goddammit, Sabine! Your rodent is over here, copping a feel and stealing my chair!" Her expression turned sour as the gloves came off; the wires flew forth, ensnaring little Adelle and keeping the squirrel from running away.

"Can you keep it on a leash or something?!"

The thing wasn't heavy.

That was one thing she always expected about machinery, knowing that there were probably tons of pieces on the inside, and somehow held together by just a couple of screws.

Technology was amazing.

"Like this?"

Carefully stepping around to avoid hitting or tripping anything, there was really only one place the thing could have gone, and held it up, like what she had been told to do.

Although she couldn't help but wonder what exactly the woman was building. A question which she waited for, seeing the work that was involved for whatever was going on.

Drilling stuff together, and messing with wires?

If Miss Sabine had gotten distracted, then she could possibly get hurt or electrocuted. And it would have been her fault. So she silently watched, though her mind wandered back to the heat.

In conditions like these, she always felt like going out for a swim would be nice.

Playing some pool volleyball, Marco Polo, or just floating in the water. The only thing she didn't really like about going swimming, were the few times where she forgot her sunscreen.

Getting sun burnt really hurt.

The landlady's voice broke her out of her thoughts, and briefly prompted her to raise an eyebrow, hearing the beginning. What kind of secret was she planning on telling her?

Ah, she didn't even get to promise she wasn't going to tell anybody.

Her lips were pursed into a pout, until hearing the rest of what being said, and was quickly replaced by a smile. That was an easy question to answer.

Just as long as she wasn't tested on what she had agreed to.

She couldn't for the life of her remember all those words, which were phrased in a way that she felt needed to be explained by a lawyer. But she didn't have money for a lawyer.

So she had to read things carefully, using context clues to help her out.

The gist of the agreement though, seemed to be keeping things a secret, and looking after herself. Oh, and also paying rent. Those were all easy enough to do.

It wasn't the whole reason she accepted though.

"You looked like you knew what you were doing. Ah, and the hideouts I keep finding, keep on getting shut down."

Minus the heat, this place was actually better than the ones she found too. The others were in warehouses, or in weird bars she wasn't really old enough to go to.

"So can I ask what you're building? Is it something that shoots lasers?"

There was enough heat in the air here, for something like that.

The sound of Kasumi-chan screaming, made her eyes widen, and wonder if someone had somehow found the hideout. Though she didn't move anywhere.

If Miss Sabine wasn't panicking, then everything was fine, right?

Kasumi-chan yelling again, had stopped her worrying, but had also made her want to leave. It looks like she was fighting with Adelle-chan again. The blue squirrel didn't mean any harm.

"Can I go hold Adelle-chan?"

While she already was prepared to leave, it wouldn't be without permission.

Ayame didn't answer the question directly, either realising the game that Sabine was playing, or genuinely oblivious to it. So instead Sabine was left to infer things from the few tidbits that she received.
Ayame's statement that she felt Sabine 'knew what she was doing' suggested that the Cameroonian was being compared to prior examples, especially when it was mentioned that previous hideouts kept getting shut down. This also meant Ayame had been 'in the business', as such, for some time now, looking around and seeing other criminal enterprises collapse. Thusly then, her arrival at Sabine's doorstep hadn't been a matter of desperation, but one of desire. In that way then, she was different from other Tenants, at one more likely to be useful, but also to be more dangerous. She wanted to be here, serving under Sabine... and if that ever changed, she didn't need Sabine, and so would not have that holding her back.

A thing to keep in mind.

Just as the unit seemed to be securely fastened to the wall, there came a loud yell from another room, as Kasumi complained about the presence of her pet. Turning around and gesturing for Ayame to follow, Sabine strode into the other chamber - her strategy room as such, though right now it was more of a lounge - while wiping sweat from her brow.
"The only one I think in need of a leash is you, if you cannot look where you're going first." Sabine said to the girl in the tank top, lightly placing delicate fingers upon the nape of Kasumi's neck, as if to suggest where she would place such a thing.
"Now I would suggest releasing my pet... unless you would like to take its place?" She whispered into Kasumi's ear at a close range, testing whether or not her reaction might be similar to another girl Sabine knew.

If Kasumi had the sense to release Adelle - and didn't force Sabine's hand to wrap around her fellow female instead - Sabine would turn to Ayame, who after asking politely, would receive a light nod. She would give a few signals for Adelle to see where it could sit, and the squirrel would scurry up to the bikini clad figure, cute as could be as it seemed to silently ask to be lifted up. Naturally, the squirrel that simply wanted to sleep would find itself a nice perch around Ayame's neck, and nestle into a nice nap.
"Now then, all the units are installed, so we..." Sabine pulled a remote from the pocket that nature had given her, and lightly flicked the switch.
"Can now relax." With her words, a low rumble began to play out in the background, and with it, a growing chill, bringing the unbearable heat to a comfortably warm ambience. Sabine basked in the relaxed temperature, setting herself down on the table that had far fewer plans on it than she would desire.

"A worthwhile investment, I think... though a costly one. I will need to think of something to help balance it out." Sabine muttered aloud, lightly tugging on the fabric around her chest.

Probably would have been a humorous thread if you were all able to continue.
