Essence Garment - T2

Ability: - This quirk’s owner has the capability to condense a portion of their physical and spiritual form into a piece of clothing. This garment can then be worn either by the quirk’s user or be given to others to wear. The garment acts as an extension of the user’s body, and is composed of a material equal to the user’s control rank. The garment will adapt to whomever wears it, adjusting to fit their form and so that it is not damaged by their quirk. Because it is made from the user’s body and essence, the threads of the clothing is always colored a crimson red.

When worn, the garment is able to provide support to a willing ally. It is able to stretch, defend/move the wearer, and attack using its threads. Since it is created from the spirit of the quirk user, the person wearing this garment also gains a +2 passive buff to any single stat, chosen by the quirk user when the garment is created. If the garment latches onto an enemy, it is able to do the reverse and debuff any one stat for the same amount. Anyone with a full letter grade of Power above the user's Control Rank can immediately break out of its grasp.

Limitations: - When the quirk’s user activates this technique, a portion of their mass and energy leaves them. This reduces the user to a weight and size wherein they resemble a child around eleven years of age. Due to this loss in strength, the user suffers a -1 Power stat grade debuff. Only one garment can exist at a time, and when the quirk’s user is not wearing it, they are unable to revert to their natural form. The garment will be destroyed if a technique is able to break materials equal to the Control Rank of the user. If the garment is completely destroyed, a creation technique is required to make a new one. While the garment is destroyed, the user cannot return to their normal form and suffers a -2 stat grade Stamina debuff. When going over limit, the garment is destroyed, cannot be regenerated for two posts, and they get a -2 stat grade Stamina debuff for two posts.

T2 body manipulation.

make something funny with it. The garment has a picture of the quirk user on the clothing or something.

Quirk rewrite.

As a final defense, the garment can block a single technique of equal rank to the user's Control Rank, after which it is completely destroyed. Because it is made from the user’s body and essence, the threads of the clothing is always colored a crimson red.

When worn, the garment infuses the wearer with condensed power, granting a buff that scales with control rank:
  • D Control - +1 additional buff to one stat
  • C Control - Clothing can block two techniques before being destroyed. One blocked technique can be a single rank higher than the user's Control Rank.
  • B Control - +2 additional buff to one stat.
  • A Control - Clothing can block any two techniques before being destroyed, except for S Rank.
  • S Control - +3 additional buff to one stat. Able to block any two techniques before being destroyed, including S Rank.

These buffs can stack with other buff techniques as well.

The garment cannot fully negate a material breaker technique and will be destroyed if the technique is able to break materials equal to the Control Rank of the user. If the garment is completely destroyed, a creation technique is required to make a new one. While the garment is destroyed, the user cannot return to their normal form and suffers a -1 letter grade Stamina debuff. When going over limit, the garment is destroyed, cannot be regenerated for two posts, and they get a 2 stat grade Stamina debuff for two posts.

In looking over this, partially Blasty’s suggestion, I feel like the aspect of blocking/negating attacks ended up becoming a more fundamental aspect of the Quirk than I originally intended. Instead, I feel it might be better to focus on developing buffing/utility aspects of the quirk, and limit the defensive properties to simply being those associated with the norm for a garment of that material rank. As a part of this, I’d like to give the quirk user some measure of access to controlling utility aspects of the quirk, even when others are using the garment. So either, I’d like to instead raise the buff amount or add additional utility features to the quirk in lieu of the attack blocking, though I defer to the mods’ superior expertise.

Given this, I’ve revised based upon Blasty’s rewrite to remove the aspects pertaining to technique blocking.

As a last note, I wasn’t entirely clear on Blasty’s intent by “+X additional buff to one stat”, as I wasn’t clear on whether it was meant to refer to only going into a total buff to a single stat, or if each no buff was that number of a lump sum to a different stat. The difference being, with one understanding at S Control it could be +1 stat Power, +2 stat Stamina, and +3 stat Speed, as supposed to being at S Control simply +5 stat Power. Additionally, due to the garment being created, I was uncertain as to in the latter case, if it would be possible to when creating the garment, decide to create different variants of the garment for different stats, depending on which technique is used to create the garment. For the final portion of this, is is -1 Power stat grade equal to -1 stat to Power, or -1 stat to letter grade?

I will go into this more tomorrow, but a few notes:

- The way stats would be buffed in your first draft of the quirk would be way too much. Giving +5 to all stats (which is already a HUGE no) and then plus a buff technique that you can do? That's why I gave my suggestion of smaller buffs, with the blocking as an added bonus.

- We can remove the blocking, but what kind of utility do you want? I don't want this to simply be "I give a piece of clothing and they get free stats in everything." That's not very interesting and also potentially really OP.

- I was referring to the "+X in one stat" as in when you create the garment for someone to wear, you declare that you're specifically buffing Power, or Stamina, or whatever. This was just to give it more focus and allow you to make different clothes with different purposes. Maybe stamina clothing is big and bulky while speed clothing is sleek for agile movements.

- It would be -1 Power stat grade, not a full letter grade.

I get the reduction in stat buffs, and as you've explained it thus far, am ok with the other aspects of the changes to the stat buffs. The one remaining question regarding the garments giving the different stats is as to whether making say, light clothes for speed and bulky clothes for stamina using the example you gave would entail a different creation tech for each one or only one tech just to create a garment.

Otherwise, as pertains to the utility offered, the idea I wanted to go for was to offer something that is more conscious on the part of the creator beyond just giving someone else the garment and then letting them benefit from the stats. I'm not entirely sure what the best thing to work into it would be, so I'm open to suggestions on that front, though perhaps something relating to a connection between the wearer and the garment's maker would be fitting.

Another idea based on your suggestion. Took away the upgrades with each Control Rank because it was honestly just getting more confusing/complicated than it was worth. Hope this is a step in the right direction though.

This seems pretty solid. However, do you suppose it would be possible to implement the +2 to a stat instead of +2 to power alone, as I actually really liked that component of your previous suggestion. In fact, the ability to create -2 to a stat garments would also be useful, but not imperative.

I'm not sure your thoughts on this, but I think the potential for more variety in the nature of buffs seems higher priority than some of the aspects of control of the garment that could need to be sacrificed to achieve that.
