For the beginning of the year, it was pretty peaceful. Being a blue collar worker, Keelo was expecting her schedule to be packed as she cleaned up after public events that had celebrated the late-spring holidays, but for whatever reason, that wasn't the case this season and the janitor had an extra day off. She took this in stride, deciding to put on her shades, her usual aviator jacket, and jeans - and headed downtown to enjoy herself and splurge with her Christmas bonus that she had saved for a day like this.

Ever since a beautification ordinance was put into place in this part of Tokyo, trees could be found planted at almost every block, and while they have already been in bloom for a while, they still had a few more weeks until their petals lost their initial allure. Keelo sat at a cafe in this district, enjoying a large lunch as she partook in people watching. So many shapes and sizes, all with different moods and attitudes. It gave the janitor a small reminder of what she fought for.

Looking around to make sure no one was observing her, Keelo decided to indulge as she held her breath for a moment, concentrating on achieving a balance in her body. A small time after doing so, she had activated her quirk and the white warmth of her quirk's aura enveloped her. Being about mid-day, the sun way high in the sky, and unless someone was really paying attention, it was hard to notice this energy surrounding Keelo.

Lance was still going through a turbulent time and light was not appearing in the pitch black tunnel. He had tossed everything from his past lifestyle. The cape, the brushes, and knives were all sitting in a trash heap. The only thing he couldn't think of dropping was the his mask. It had been his safe house for when he released his dark passenger. He had allowed this monster to ride in the drivers seat while Lance was tucked away in the trunk. Finally he ended this monsters reign and escaped. Escaped with a case of stockholm syndrome. Never truly free or wanting to be alone from his lifelong companion he kept the mask, just in case.

Stumbling out of an ally the light seared into his optical nerves effectively blinding him. Lance lifted the hood of his new... used hoodie to block the sun's powerful rays. As the white faded he started to get a better sense of where he was. This street had plenty of coffee stops and restaurants facing the many office jobs on the other side of the beautiful streets. This was when he noticed an excessive amount of green lining the concrete jungle. A new page for the city.

Lance walked up to the trees blooming with color. Cherry trees he thought. The smell was invigorating. Littered around the trees bushes and flowers exploded with vibrant hues and smells that started to tickle Lance's nose. Brushing it to avoid sneezing Lance returned to the side walk and start heading no where in particular.

He didn't have a plan for what was next. He didn't really want one either. All his plots of past had lead him nowhere fast. I mean just look at him. Pulling a twig out of his hair he knew he was all out of balance. Willing some of the goo that laid in his body he slicked back his hair to look less disheveled. It didn't do much, but made him feel slightly better. His looks mattered little for his stomach had barged in knocking that issue out in the first round.
GGGGGWAHRURURURBBBBGURGLE. That was at least the top three loudest for him.

He hadn't checked the pockets of his jacket since he got it from the donation bin, but no one ever leaves cash in clothes. His hands plunged into the pockets and felt paper. Lance's eyes teared up, die Planeten haben ausgerichtet![the planets have aligned!]

Pulling the paper out he was excited to see how much he had to his name! 876-5309?

It was a number...not numbers on a bill, but a lousy phone number! He had almost needed to grab a brown pair of pants. Stupidity welled in his chest along with feelings of melancholy and apocalyptic doom. The usual. Falling to his knees the pain didn't even register for the ocean of bleakness grew on him like an tornado in Neverland. This was the end.

SMACK

Something had hit Lance square in the face. It didn't hurt, but shocked him none the less. Crumpling the new piece of paper in his palm he cleared his leaking eyes enough to see a 1000 yen bill sitting there. Dort ist ein Gott!! His hand shot up into the sky as he gave praise to his benefactor.

The note fell coarse in his hand and yet delivered the most sensational rush of comfort to him. With this he could eat lunch!

He turned to the restaurant and strode in blazing with confidence that could only be matched with Apollo the sun god. With his cash he ordered the most delicious chicken sandwich he saw and a large black Kaffee. With his emotions and self worth all over the place he could definitely feel his equilibrium no where near balanced. He was a roller coaster of self disruption. But this roller coaster only have possible end point,
Hähnchen station!

As the toasted sourdough bread cracked under his fingertips the savory smell of roasted chicken filled his nostrils with ambrosia. Just as the sandwich pressed against his dried cracked he could feel the juicy...juices revitalize his senses. A silent single tear rolled down his face as he bit and heard the crunch of the bread. It was nirvana on a bun. The chicken was moist yet chewy and the mixes of secret sauce made him see stars.

He brought the hot coffee to his lips to wash it down, but a shiver ran up his spine. He lost his focus as something else drew him in. The ridges in his fingers tips registered what was happening before his mind understood. Time slowed, but not enough for the mug to be caught. Lance saw its trajectory and his body seized in wait of the pain about to engulf his nether regions.

While Lance was fumbling with his anonymous hand-me-downs, Keelo's thoughts wandered, wafting up into their own little world as the steam off her coffee did the same. She wasn't having as much luck with the villain fighting business as she thought she would. Whenever she wasn't cleaning in a safe place like a school or a high-profile office building, she was either too overworked to focus on patrolling or something else would distract her for the majority of her shift. Biting into the fresh croissant, she released the hold she had on her breath, inhaling as she took in the comforting smell of bread.

It reminded her of home, for better or for worse, as while it fostered a sense of nostalgia, it also weaved in an urge of longing. She knew with the fight she got into and the name she made for herself back home, returning for good wouldn't be an option. Staying with her parents for the holidays, maybe, but beyond that, she'd just wear out her welcome.

Keelo hesitated to take another sip of her beverage, this train of thought had built up a lump in her throat, and try to swallow it as she might, it only passed after a tear had escaped her eyes. It slid past her shades and down her face, cementing the hold her past still had on her present intentions.

She sniffled, but moved to wipe the tear with her wrist. "I've got a new purpose now. It ain't much now, but I just gotta soldier on for a bit." She noted. The conviction in her voice sounded weak, but it was enough to let her enjoy her meal once more, moving onto the sandwich that she saved for last.

Enjoy it she did. Keelo was on her last few bites of her sandwich, but considering the size and its contents it wasn't surprising she was doubtful she could finish. But before Keelo could make the move to put it in a doggie bag for later, a pained screech directly behind her had stopped her in her tracks.

Quickly turning around, worried that it could be something of a serious nature, Keelo's concern was half-absolved as she learned it was only an unfortunate customer of the cafe. Deciding to try and help the man, Keelo got out of her seat and hastily wretched some napkins from their dispenser, handing a few to Lance as she picked up the cup, next wiping down the surfaces she saw were drenched in coffee, but this also had included the crotch-splotch that Lance fell victim to. When Keelo realized her social faux paw, she pulled away, slightly embarrassed at how crass she must have seen.

"Ah, sorry about that, I work as a janitor, so I sorta acted without thinkin'. You gonna be ok there?"

Mary Mutter oft Gutt! ES ist so heiss! Everything had been going well, but of course when it went to well the worst appeared. Tears flowed like mighty rivers down down Lance's cheeks. His eye red like the devils dick and most likely his own after the boiling tar crawled over his flesh.

His head became woozy from the pain, his body trying any way to stop the pain even if it meant total shut down. His nails had begun digging into his palm to try and transfer focus of pains away. Finally the pain start easing from his body, but possibly a new tortured awaited. The mutters of a women broke through the confusion and ringing from the pain in his ears.

Lance collapsed on the ground dripping with sweat and gunk stuck to his face. His vision blurred was coming to and finally noticed the women behind him. Am I alright? Nah lady, I'm pretty fucking far from alright. Reaching for the table he found the glass of water and splashed it on his crouch. Sweet sanctuary! His senses returned to him and he release a sigh of relief.

He gripped the edge of the speckled tabled and pulled his damaged body up. The area was spotless and the women continued cambering on about cleaning and her life. She had actually started cleaning the area before providing him with assistance. His hand seized at instinct reached for the mask and a knife. An inner monologue willed him for blood, for her to feel his pain.

But she was blushing and and stammering. Lance closed his eyes and retched his hand away from the instinct. It's fine, I'll just grab some ice. I'm Lance.

He waved to the waitress, Some ice in a bag please. Another kaffee as well.

The ache in his crotch was quite sore, but hopefully the sweet taste of his sandwich would hopefully push the pain out.

Chewing he swallowed the bite of chicken and returned to looking at the waitress as she brought the kaffee and bag of ice. He nodded to the women and placed the ice bag on his groin. A stabbing sensation ran its course through his groin and muscularlegs. And you are?

His cold reaction, while understandable due to the pain he must have been in, was still offputting for Keelo. Stepping away for a moment to throw the napkins she used in the trash. When she returned, She noticed how on-edge Lance was, and began to grow a little worried. With slight hesitation, Keelo sat back down at her seat, waiting for Lance to calm down and hopefully be less easily agitated.

She picked up her half-eaten sandwich, taking another bite out of it, as where before she felt stuffed, that initial interaction started her anxiety back up, and stress eating seemed like a good idea at the time. Hearing his question, she swallowed and spoke up. "Keelo." She responded, not sure what to say after that as an awkward silence took hold of their conversation.

Trying to avoid an unpleasant end ot her lunch, she eventually continued the conversation, bringing up the first thing that came to her mind. "You ok now? I've had to deal with a lotta burns as a kid considering how reckless I was so I know how much that must sting."

The sandwich was too delicious and like ambrosia filling a demi god he felt the healing properties wrap his body in comfort. His shoulder eased as the cool sensations finally became too cold. Placing the ice bag on the table he cautiously reached for the mug of kaffee. Fear constricted his chest as the searing pain flashed in his short term memory. But he pushed through it and let the warm black gold slide past his lips savoring every drop. The heat in his chest didn't make anything better. His body warned up and that only made him feel worse.

The women he barely took time to look at called herself Keelo which was an interesting name to say the least. If he had been in the mode his witty death quote would haven keelover and die. But he was safe from his urges taking over as long as this sandwich was with him.

She talked about being a janitor and then left to toss the napkins. Lance used to be a janitor, he just killed the trash he found. But Lance doubted that would be relate-able. The burns was a weird turn of events. Not many people had suffered such a fate. Lance's interest peaked, If you don't mind me asking, how did the burns come to be?

Lance finally turned to face the women for a civilized conversation. He needed to work on his etiquette and social skills. Looking at her face he was offput. Something was lurking in the back of his head but his thumb couldn't hit the spot.

When Keelo's mentions of her burns had piqued Lances interest and he inquired about it, she thought about it for a bit but eventually gave him a 'so-so' hand gesture. "It's nothin' too cool or tragic. I was just a dumb kid. My parents ran the only bakery in the village so we had a lot of orders. Helped out as soon as I could.. but I was a bit too eager." She paused to chuckle, embarrassed at her own memories.

"Used to pull the bread pan out as soon as it was done, no mittens or anything. You think I'd learn after the first few times. Guess I just wanted to make my parents proud." She explained gesturing as she recalled this story from her youth. As her hands moved, her callous hands, toughened by the aforementioned burns helped highlight just how much she must have hurt them in her youth.

"Sure I was scolded time and time again, but I guess I was too stupid to learn from my mistakes. Eh, I guess it makes manual labor easier, so that's an upside, at least." She concluded, adjusting her shades before moving to take a drink from her coffee as well.

"And I know how to treat burn wounds pretty well. Apply burn ointment every five hours, air the burn for the first hour and sleep with AC on. Heals up pretty quickly that way." She noted, hoping her advice might help Lance's... awkward injury. "So what about you? You do anything dumb as a kid?"

Lance pushed his mental reserves about the off putting nature of this women. They drank their kaffee together while she recanted her childhood. It didn't sound like much out of the normal had gone down. Just a normal girl with something to prove to the world.

Staring into his kaffee mug Lance thought to his own childhood similar to the kaffee, black. The mocking and ridicule from his quirk, the failure as an artist, and worst of it all his blinding rage that caused the death of his parents. Then of course she had to ask for his life story. Lance swelled with shame and hate for his past deeds. Like the streets around him just wanted a fresh start, a new page to his book.

My parents died a few years back so I took off to see the world. Didn't really feel like staying in a place where I was a joke or weird to people because of who I am. Haven't really done much since then and I still don't know what to do from here. Just waiting for a door to open I suppose.

Lance finished his kaffee and sat there unsure of how the women would respond. He technically had only left parts out and not lied, but the turmoil made him upset. He didn't want to lie, but he didn't know if opening up about it now was the right time. Lance had a lot of backed up emotions and memories to come to terms with.

Upon hearing that, Keelo was a little speechless. She wasn't expecting Lance to just pour out his heart like that. Maybe a story or two, but the synopsis of his early life was out of left-field. She hesitated, downing the last of her coffee before saying anything.

"Well.. sorry, pal. Didn't mean to drag that out of ya. If it makes you feel any better, I ain't welcome much in my hometown either." She shrugged, trying to offer him some comfort, as the pained man looked like he could need some.

Keelo took off her sunglasses, folding them and letting them hang on the collar of her shirt and gave Lance a serious look. "I don't wanna claim to know the answer to your problems, that'd be just plain rude, but if you're looking for a job, I know of a few places looking to hire. Most of them are manual labor, I know a friend at UPS who could vouch for you and some others at different places as well." She offered, hoping that for Lance, a door opening for him, meant a job.

"I know it's not much, but consider it. No offense, but you don't like you're in the best of shape right now, so you could probably use the help." She admitted. It was probably a little forward of her to just offer a stranger like Lance a job, but something about him she found relatable.

Finishing his sip of coffee he felt relief from the deep pits of his emotions. On a path like this maybe he could function normally.

He turned to look at her for a response and she looked appalled. Maybe he had been desensitized to his horrors unlike some people. Hopefully she didn't curse at him and push him away. He returned to the sandwich which had provided momentarily comfort.

A job? She wanted to help him. Maybe it was a trap. Sabine had wanted to help him and he turned her down. Maybe it was time to stop turning from help and just accept it.

Yea that would be great. I haven't really had anything normal for awhile. Why do you want to help me? We just met.

Lance wanted to accept her help, but he wasn't sure, maybe this is a trick. Maybe she was making fun of him. Turmoil flamed into his mind and fear as well. He pushed his chair out unsure of himself. He grab his sandwich worried he would have to flee.

Good, he was about to accept her offer. He looked like he really needed it, and the bleeding heart that she was, Keelo couldn't resist offering him something to get him back on his feet. She was about to hold her hand out for a handshake when Lance got up and stiffened his stance, looking like he could flee at any moment.

Keelo had a concerned look on her face when Lance accused her of making fun of him, hurt, almost. She wasn't going to back down, however. He needed help from someone, and she didn't want to see Lance run away from a good opportunity like this.

She calmed her voice, trying to choose the right words to not frighten him off. "Lance, I ain't making fun of you, seriously. I mean, I clean other people's messes for a living, there isn't much room for superiority here." She explained, holding up her hand in a manner that related compassion, hopefully.

"I guess I just wanted to help you because I saw some of myself in you. Can't go back home, but you don't really have anywhere to go from here. I just wanna help you get back on your feet. I won't force you, but the offer's there, ok?" She insisted.

Lance still recoiled physically and more so emotionally. Why would someone want to help him? They didn't know the monster that he was, that he could still be. Maybe this fear that clung on to his chest was really him holding on to the past as a comfort. Making life changes like this Lance wasn't sure what was the right path was. The wind flowed and a cool breeze rushed against his skin. He was working a sweat up and his nerves jumpy.

Then she started talking again. She sounded concerned and taken aback by his outburst. She spoke calmly and offered her help yet again. She has a point about not looking down on people considering her profession. Lance decided to do it.

I'm sorry, its just hard to trust with my past. I'll take your help, anything to get away from my life before and you're right. I need to accept I don't have anywhere to go because everything before has to be purified.

Lance took his chair and sighed with relief. He was really doing it. Making the change. He looked at Keelo and she smiled back at him. Maybe he had a chance to make a real life.

Keelo gave a long-winded sigh of relief, placing a hand on her chest as she relaxed her worried stance. "You had me scared there for a second Lance. Thought I said somethin' waay over the line." She admitted now that the tension had died down.

"Still new to city livin', so I'm still getting used to all the social faux pas. Let's trade numbers. In a few days, I'll make sure to give you a few positions to apply for, most if not all of them I'll have put in the good word about you, but you'll have to work hard for it, alright? Chances like this probably don't come often, and I wanna make sure you come out on top with this." She urged, hoping he'd take the suggestion to heart.

"Gotta say, though, wasn't expecting company like this on my day off. It was odd, even a bit stressful, but I think it was nice, overall." She smiled, getting up to throw away her cardboard cup.

With both them sighing in relief. The only thing that didn't give him relief was that this was his last bite of the sandwich was forged on Mount Olympus. The crunchy bread, the spicy spread, the moist turkey. It was too good. Just like this fresh start. Lance knew he should be past redemption, and yet here she was giving him an out. Showing him the light. No motives and no dark agendas. No secrets.

A deep sigh of air pushed out of Lance. He couldn't bring himself to eat his sandwich with the deception coating his tongue with a metallic taste. Keelo, I haven't been all that honest with you. And for yours and my sake, I can't just push this past. Ich habe log.(I have lied) I've been a fanatic for the last year. Somehow some crazy idea got into my head after I killed my parents in rage that I was to purify the world of less than desirable people. I've have been responsible for 5 deaths so far. And it wasn't until recently on my last attack that so close to failure that I realized it wasn't me acting. Years of pain, humiliation, and anger swelled and formed something in me. I couldn't kick it, but I am trying now. I didn't want to keep anything secret since you are helping me. I have to change and one of those is not lying to mein Freunde(my friends).

Lance's face was a sheet of weiss. His heart throbbed against his temple and hand themselves gripped so tightly that he felt like the bones could snap with any more pressure.

I understand if this changes things.

That was a lot to drop on her plate, considering the waitress had already taken it away. She knew he had to be harboring some sort of rough past, but for Lance to have been hiding this much and to have laid it all out on the table for someone he just met minutes ago? He was either really trying to change or he just told everyone this story.

Keelo decided to believe the former as if he did really just blab this sort of life story to everyone, she doubted that Lance would have gone this long without somebody telling on him. She rubbed the back of her neck, not really sure what to do with this sudden confession. Eventually, she worked up the strength to say something.

"Well, dang, you bein' brave enough to tell me that makes my small act of charity look like a cake walk Lance." She joked with a dry chuckle, trying first to ease the tension. "But really, I don't think I'll take back my offer just cause you showed me those skeletons you've got stashed away. I wont lie, those are some pretty bad things, and usually if you told that to someone they'd just tell the police. But uh, I don't think that prison is gonna make what happened in the past right." She admitted, stumbling over her words, not expecting to have to help with someone's emotional baggage that day.

"But what will help is coming to terms with what you've done. You're already on the first step, as in knowing what you did was wrong, and I'm gonna help you on the next one." Before continuing, Keelo grabbed Lance's plate. She poured the bread crumbs into the palm on her hand and put the plate back down. She locked eyes with Lance, her expression serious. "Now, back home when my parents wanted to make sure I followed on a promise, we'd bake a loaf of bread and cut off a slice, crushing it up into crumbs before we poured them into our hands. I'm not sure of the exact meaning of this, but I know it holds weight, at least in my family, so shake my hand to seal the deal, but know that I am serious with this, and I want you to be too." Her hand curved slightly, just enough that she could shake hands with it and keep all the crumbs in here.
