For the beginning of the year, it was pretty peaceful. Being a blue collar worker, Keelo was expecting her schedule to be packed as she cleaned up after public events that had celebrated the late-spring holidays, but for whatever reason, that wasn't the case this season and the janitor had an extra day off. She took this in stride, deciding to put on her shades, her usual aviator jacket, and jeans - and headed downtown to enjoy herself and splurge with her Christmas bonus that she had saved for a day like this. Ever since a beautification ordinance was put into place in this part of Tokyo, trees could be found planted at almost every block, and while they have already been in bloom for a while, they still had a few more weeks until their petals lost their initial allure. Keelo sat at a cafe in this district, enjoying a large lunch as she partook in people watching. So many shapes and sizes, all with different moods and attitudes. It gave the janitor a small reminder of what she fought for. Looking around to make sure no one was observing her, Keelo decided to indulge as she held her breath for a moment, concentrating on achieving a balance in her body. A small time after doing so, she had activated her quirk and the white warmth of her quirk's aura enveloped her. Being about mid-day, the sun way high in the sky, and unless someone was really paying attention, it was hard to notice this energy surrounding Keelo. |

While Lance was fumbling with his anonymous hand-me-downs, Keelo's thoughts wandered, wafting up into their own little world as the steam off her coffee did the same. She wasn't having as much luck with the villain fighting business as she thought she would. Whenever she wasn't cleaning in a safe place like a school or a high-profile office building, she was either too overworked to focus on patrolling or something else would distract her for the majority of her shift. Biting into the fresh croissant, she released the hold she had on her breath, inhaling as she took in the comforting smell of bread. It reminded her of home, for better or for worse, as while it fostered a sense of nostalgia, it also weaved in an urge of longing. She knew with the fight she got into and the name she made for herself back home, returning for good wouldn't be an option. Staying with her parents for the holidays, maybe, but beyond that, she'd just wear out her welcome. Keelo hesitated to take another sip of her beverage, this train of thought had built up a lump in her throat, and try to swallow it as she might, it only passed after a tear had escaped her eyes. It slid past her shades and down her face, cementing the hold her past still had on her present intentions. She sniffled, but moved to wipe the tear with her wrist. "I've got a new purpose now. It ain't much now, but I just gotta soldier on for a bit." She noted. The conviction in her voice sounded weak, but it was enough to let her enjoy her meal once more, moving onto the sandwich that she saved for last. Enjoy it she did. Keelo was on her last few bites of her sandwich, but considering the size and its contents it wasn't surprising she was doubtful she could finish. But before Keelo could make the move to put it in a doggie bag for later, a pained screech directly behind her had stopped her in her tracks. Quickly turning around, worried that it could be something of a serious nature, Keelo's concern was half-absolved as she learned it was only an unfortunate customer of the cafe. Deciding to try and help the man, Keelo got out of her seat and hastily wretched some napkins from their dispenser, handing a few to Lance as she picked up the cup, next wiping down the surfaces she saw were drenched in coffee, but this also had included the crotch-splotch that Lance fell victim to. When Keelo realized her social faux paw, she pulled away, slightly embarrassed at how crass she must have seen. "Ah, sorry about that, I work as a janitor, so I sorta acted without thinkin'. You gonna be ok there?" |

His cold reaction, while understandable due to the pain he must have been in, was still offputting for Keelo. Stepping away for a moment to throw the napkins she used in the trash. When she returned, She noticed how on-edge Lance was, and began to grow a little worried. With slight hesitation, Keelo sat back down at her seat, waiting for Lance to calm down and hopefully be less easily agitated. She picked up her half-eaten sandwich, taking another bite out of it, as where before she felt stuffed, that initial interaction started her anxiety back up, and stress eating seemed like a good idea at the time. Hearing his question, she swallowed and spoke up. "Keelo." She responded, not sure what to say after that as an awkward silence took hold of their conversation. Trying to avoid an unpleasant end ot her lunch, she eventually continued the conversation, bringing up the first thing that came to her mind. "You ok now? I've had to deal with a lotta burns as a kid considering how reckless I was so I know how much that must sting." |

When Keelo's mentions of her burns had piqued Lances interest and he inquired about it, she thought about it for a bit but eventually gave him a 'so-so' hand gesture. "It's nothin' too cool or tragic. I was just a dumb kid. My parents ran the only bakery in the village so we had a lot of orders. Helped out as soon as I could.. but I was a bit too eager." She paused to chuckle, embarrassed at her own memories. "Used to pull the bread pan out as soon as it was done, no mittens or anything. You think I'd learn after the first few times. Guess I just wanted to make my parents proud." She explained gesturing as she recalled this story from her youth. As her hands moved, her callous hands, toughened by the aforementioned burns helped highlight just how much she must have hurt them in her youth. "Sure I was scolded time and time again, but I guess I was too stupid to learn from my mistakes. Eh, I guess it makes manual labor easier, so that's an upside, at least." She concluded, adjusting her shades before moving to take a drink from her coffee as well. "And I know how to treat burn wounds pretty well. Apply burn ointment every five hours, air the burn for the first hour and sleep with AC on. Heals up pretty quickly that way." She noted, hoping her advice might help Lance's... awkward injury. "So what about you? You do anything dumb as a kid?" |

Upon hearing that, Keelo was a little speechless. She wasn't expecting Lance to just pour out his heart like that. Maybe a story or two, but the synopsis of his early life was out of left-field. She hesitated, downing the last of her coffee before saying anything. "Well.. sorry, pal. Didn't mean to drag that out of ya. If it makes you feel any better, I ain't welcome much in my hometown either." She shrugged, trying to offer him some comfort, as the pained man looked like he could need some. Keelo took off her sunglasses, folding them and letting them hang on the collar of her shirt and gave Lance a serious look. "I don't wanna claim to know the answer to your problems, that'd be just plain rude, but if you're looking for a job, I know of a few places looking to hire. Most of them are manual labor, I know a friend at UPS who could vouch for you and some others at different places as well." She offered, hoping that for Lance, a door opening for him, meant a job. "I know it's not much, but consider it. No offense, but you don't like you're in the best of shape right now, so you could probably use the help." She admitted. It was probably a little forward of her to just offer a stranger like Lance a job, but something about him she found relatable. |

Good, he was about to accept her offer. He looked like he really needed it, and the bleeding heart that she was, Keelo couldn't resist offering him something to get him back on his feet. She was about to hold her hand out for a handshake when Lance got up and stiffened his stance, looking like he could flee at any moment. Keelo had a concerned look on her face when Lance accused her of making fun of him, hurt, almost. She wasn't going to back down, however. He needed help from someone, and she didn't want to see Lance run away from a good opportunity like this. She calmed her voice, trying to choose the right words to not frighten him off. "Lance, I ain't making fun of you, seriously. I mean, I clean other people's messes for a living, there isn't much room for superiority here." She explained, holding up her hand in a manner that related compassion, hopefully. "I guess I just wanted to help you because I saw some of myself in you. Can't go back home, but you don't really have anywhere to go from here. I just wanna help you get back on your feet. I won't force you, but the offer's there, ok?" She insisted. |

Keelo gave a long-winded sigh of relief, placing a hand on her chest as she relaxed her worried stance. "You had me scared there for a second Lance. Thought I said somethin' waay over the line." She admitted now that the tension had died down. "Still new to city livin', so I'm still getting used to all the social faux pas. Let's trade numbers. In a few days, I'll make sure to give you a few positions to apply for, most if not all of them I'll have put in the good word about you, but you'll have to work hard for it, alright? Chances like this probably don't come often, and I wanna make sure you come out on top with this." She urged, hoping he'd take the suggestion to heart. "Gotta say, though, wasn't expecting company like this on my day off. It was odd, even a bit stressful, but I think it was nice, overall." She smiled, getting up to throw away her cardboard cup. |

With both them sighing in relief. The only thing that didn't give him relief was that this was his last bite of the sandwich was forged on Mount Olympus. The crunchy bread, the spicy spread, the moist turkey. It was too good. Just like this fresh start. Lance knew he should be past redemption, and yet here she was giving him an out. Showing him the light. No motives and no dark agendas. No secrets. A deep sigh of air pushed out of Lance. He couldn't bring himself to eat his sandwich with the deception coating his tongue with a metallic taste. Keelo, I haven't been all that honest with you. And for yours and my sake, I can't just push this past. Ich habe log.(I have lied) I've been a fanatic for the last year. Somehow some crazy idea got into my head after I killed my parents in rage that I was to purify the world of less than desirable people. I've have been responsible for 5 deaths so far. And it wasn't until recently on my last attack that so close to failure that I realized it wasn't me acting. Years of pain, humiliation, and anger swelled and formed something in me. I couldn't kick it, but I am trying now. I didn't want to keep anything secret since you are helping me. I have to change and one of those is not lying to mein Freunde(my friends). Lance's face was a sheet of weiss. His heart throbbed against his temple and hand themselves gripped so tightly that he felt like the bones could snap with any more pressure. I understand if this changes things. |

That was a lot to drop on her plate, considering the waitress had already taken it away. She knew he had to be harboring some sort of rough past, but for Lance to have been hiding this much and to have laid it all out on the table for someone he just met minutes ago? He was either really trying to change or he just told everyone this story. Keelo decided to believe the former as if he did really just blab this sort of life story to everyone, she doubted that Lance would have gone this long without somebody telling on him. She rubbed the back of her neck, not really sure what to do with this sudden confession. Eventually, she worked up the strength to say something. "Well, dang, you bein' brave enough to tell me that makes my small act of charity look like a cake walk Lance." She joked with a dry chuckle, trying first to ease the tension. "But really, I don't think I'll take back my offer just cause you showed me those skeletons you've got stashed away. I wont lie, those are some pretty bad things, and usually if you told that to someone they'd just tell the police. But uh, I don't think that prison is gonna make what happened in the past right." She admitted, stumbling over her words, not expecting to have to help with someone's emotional baggage that day. "But what will help is coming to terms with what you've done. You're already on the first step, as in knowing what you did was wrong, and I'm gonna help you on the next one." Before continuing, Keelo grabbed Lance's plate. She poured the bread crumbs into the palm on her hand and put the plate back down. She locked eyes with Lance, her expression serious. "Now, back home when my parents wanted to make sure I followed on a promise, we'd bake a loaf of bread and cut off a slice, crushing it up into crumbs before we poured them into our hands. I'm not sure of the exact meaning of this, but I know it holds weight, at least in my family, so shake my hand to seal the deal, but know that I am serious with this, and I want you to be too." Her hand curved slightly, just enough that she could shake hands with it and keep all the crumbs in here. |
