Taller than You
|
Ron: The band was not doing well. The leader had disappeared for a vacation with his girlfriend. And the bus was gone. Rodger had also fled the country it seems so the office shut down as he was reported for a big pyramid sceme. Now Gavin was for the most part broke and soon to be homeless if he didn't find some work. Or maybe something that fell off a lorry. Now Gavin wasn't a crook...anymore, but he was desperate. And desperate times call for desperate maximum effort measures. He needed a plan and what better way to form one then on the beach. It was insanely hot this afternoon. How hot was it you ask, hot enough for Gavin to not be wearing a suit. I know ladies, please calm yourself. However, he still had the wonderful waterfall of class flowing from his attire. Rocking tan shorts it struck well against the florescent spray of sky blue button up. Standard double top button undone with the stunner shades on to block the haters. However, it was mostly to conceal his eyes while looking at the ladies of the beach. The warm leather sandals were crusted with the white sands of the beach. He swung by the bar and grab a mojito with extra rum. Taking his first swig he wondered who would be his first victim...catch. With scores of women grabbing their tans surely one had been lucky enough to be solo today. He took a panoramic view of the beach goers and no one stood out at first glance. With a second look about...still nothing. Seems like everyone and thier estranged ex mother in law had found someone to accompany them to the beach. Bugger, not what a bloke looking like me was expecting. Pure rubbish, no money and no lady...At least I have this wonderful drink. As he took another sip someone brushed into Gavin and the condensation on the glass caused it to slip straight into the sand. The clear ambrosia melted into the darkened sand. ahhhwhaaaa, hey mate I think you owe me a drink! Deku: For the green-haired thief, stealing gives her rush, a sense of excitement. But these days it seems she wanted to relax. A sunny day at the beach sounded nice. Miuzko wore a blue bathing suit and was wearing sunglasses. She reclined on her inflatable mattress in the water, bathing in the sunlight. The saltwater air, reached her nostrils as she was enjoying her vacation. Her tranquil trance ended when some unruly kids accidentally hit her with a beach ball. The impact knocked her out of the mattress and her expression turned into a more firey and fierce one. "Watch where your hitting you dumb brats!" she yelled out, kick the ball in any general expression. Why do people have to go ruin her day. She decided to go screw up someone elses. She wiped her arm out in a waving gesture, and small wave of water knocked out their inflatables as well. They where bewildered at where the sudden water behavior. Mizuko played dumb so noone knew it was her. She hid her mischievous grin well, and continued screwing with the other people playing in the water. Tatsu: While the others were already outside, she was still home, waking up, stretching her arms out before her grandmother 'purposely' and suddenly opened the curtains for the intense light of the sun to hit her face. The first thing Leng sees during the new day, it seemed, and it didn't satisfy her at all, though, she had a habit to never yell at her granny and she never did, ever. "Ugh, why does she always do this...?!" The young Da-Xia grumbled from inside her thoughts and simply ended up slipping off the bed, yawning briefly and putting on her white and comfy sandals before finally taking a stand. A walk is firstly taken over to the bathroom as she looks herself in the mirror. Without the ponytail, there was the typical bedhead, a faint huff being taken out as she always finds it absurd that she wakes up ugly and messy-looking, all the time. "This is so annoying..." The teenager grumbles, now aloud before she strips herself off her plain white shirt and everything else to step into the bathtub to take a quick shower. Afterwards, the breakfast is taken and she prepares herself to go outside, in her jogging outfit. No gi this time, since that's for special occasions. She simply takes on a short-sleeved orange shirt with sunny designs along with small white training shorts and a color combination of orange and white running shoes. Eveything matching for a beautiful day! "I'm going out, granny!" Leng shouts out and finally steps outside, beginning her jog right immediately. Destination... The beach. Ron: With a new drink in hand Gavin was pretty satisfied. He had gotten most of the spilled drink down so a free refresh was welcomed. Savoring the sting of the sweet drink Gavin sauntered to a new site. Maybe this would be his scam of the day and just get free drinks for the day. That won't pay my bills though. Strolling down the shift sands he saw the people splash and scream with delight. He had to come up with a cheap idea to score a buck. He had to think of his options. He had never down a low down hustle. Thinking of movies they were always in bars and street sides. There was never a beach hustle. Also...Gavin wasn't particularly good at much, like talking.I'm an idiot ...I'm the talker I just need the talent. Also a plan... Gavin dug in to his brainstorm...and the last bit of his drink. Scanning the horizon he only saw a volleyball game going. Only a handful of individuals were playing, but that is all he needed. Now I just need some people. He saw a women running by...rather fit to bot. Only problem was that he had to catch her. Chugging the rest of the drink Gavin took off to intercept the possible teammate. HEY HEY YOU! Wanna play a game of volley ball? Me: "...Where even..?" Jackson queried no one in particular as he stood confused, seeing a beach before him instead of the expected hotel district. At this point, he was certain the numerous directions he had gotten had pretty much gotten him lost in a whole new way. To make things better, he had long since lost his suitcase, most certainly missed check-in time at the hotel and- A hard bonk from a beach ball caught Jack off-guard in the middle of his rant, the mumbled apologies of children not even reaching his ears as his anger reached a new peak. "Accident... was an accident..." Jackson mumbled out loud, eyes closed and fists taut. Finally managing to calm himself with a big sigh, the boy chose to start his search for the hotel anew, seeing no other option really, even if he did want to take in the beach some... As he walked, Jackson's attention was abruptly grabbed by someone shouting, the boy turning his head for a second before he collided with someone else, his rear-end meeting with the ground moments later as he was knocked back. "Sorry, but you gotta watch where you're going yourself, huh?" The boy half-apologized as he stood back up in pain. Deku: More and more innocent victims fled the water, Mizuko enjoying their general pain. One person fell off their surfboard because she raised the wave. Another got a face full of water while they were reading. She could control the water with her quirk, by just motioning her arms. But alas that came to an end because of the many in the water left . She sighed as she had to end her fun, grabbing her mattress and leaving the water as well. She caressed her green hair, trying to remove the water that lingered in it. She wondered what other fun she could have today. The hot sand felt like cold compared to the cooler water. She looked around it seems other people here afraid the go in the water. She smiled with amusement. Thew woman also saw there was a volleyball game going on the other side of the beach, she decided to watch the game from up close. In her walk she seemed to have bumped into a girl with red-hair. She scowled " Watch where your going!" she said, before turning her head and continuing on. Tatsu: The whole jogging continued, Leng passing by the streets of Tokyo, always making sure not to meet up with those more spooky and with a higher percentage of trouble. After all, there were still bad people wandering across the globe and she couldn't forget that. But this isn't the first time she performs such a run around the city, thus why she already has a secured path set for every single time. A smile is visible on her face, a lively one, as the girl calmly nods and waves at familiar faces, especially old people. Those she finds the best to greet. Finally, she gets by the beach, more specifically up to the street side with the beautiful sight of golden sand and water just down the tall wall. But suddenly, she is interrupted by her voice, or at least one that caught her attention, even though she kept jogging by, turning her head over before... A certain green-haired teenager bumped into her, making her actually fall to her rear due to the impact. Leng caresses her shoulder for a moment before looking up. In front of her was that other girl and to her side was the man that had attracted her attention, probably due to his foreign language. "U-Uh... I'm sorry? I was just jogging." The Da-Xia states, moreso in a confused state as she takes a stand, noticing how much taller they were compared to her. A scratch of her head is made as she just observes both, silence ensuing from her. Ron: Running toward the women Gavin could clearly see her red hair he could also see the massive catastrophe unfolding. While yelling his question she seemed unable to see the people around her. First another women bumped into with striking green hair. They both tumbled and and started talking. Gavin was to far to hear and he had his own mid scene collision. Some boy hadn't made way from him in his attempt to catch the young women. Smashing into the sand particles flew into his hair, eyes, nose, mouth, and unfortunately...well that one isn't important. The important thing was that he was alright. Crazy this this punk kid could topple such a strong and well postured gentleman such as himself. The boy lashed out it seemed and blamed Gavin for the collision. Preposterous! But an Idea struck him. Watch where I am going? Listen he mate, you see someone running and calling to someone you shove off and out the way. Jeez now my wrist hurts and I can't play in the volleyball game. You have to fill in for me wait here. Shaking the sand off Gavin himself took off, of course his wrist didn't hurt he just didn't have any athletic skills as the young man, prime in his youth, most likely had. He finally got to the two women as one was getting. Quite the spill you two ladies took. Ass over noggin is a crazy thing to do. Well, my name is Gavin and if you two are alright I was going to ask if you wanted to play a game of volleyball. The young man over there is part of the team as well. Gavin turned and waved with his bad wrist...AHHHH...recently injured...slow nerves as well. His eyes shifted back pretty quickly. With his good hand Gavin extended it to the red head helping her up. Gavin tried to look excited yet hopeful the two ladies would say yes as this might just cover dinner and drink if the scam went smoothly. Maybe even a double or nothing could cover it for the week! Me: A rebuttle unlike any other was about to leave Jackson's mouth, but before he could say so much as a word, the strange man was already gone, talking to two women. The boy suppressed a growl, having half a mind to give the posh dunce a knock on the back of his head and then make his exit. But something was nagging at him, how the man's wrist seemed to indeed be hurt. All the idiot wanted to do was play some volleyball... it wasn't really his fault, more Jack's than anyone's... "Fine." Jackson muttered to himself, arms crossed. "I'll play the dumb game, not like I have any other plans." Deku: The green haired woman was going to continue on walking. But then Mizuko heard the voice of a posh sounding British man. She turned around and his looks definitely caught her interest. She stepped toward the man and the girl she knocked over. She didn't care much for her apology. "Gavin huh, what an interesting accent you're not from around here ? I'm Mizuko pleasure to meet you" she offered her hand for a handshake. The British man asked the two women to join his team in a volleyball game. Mizuko was very interested in an idea, but the offer also applied to the clumsy red hair girl on the ground. "I'd be delighted to be on your team... but I don't know if you want her, she's kinda clumsy" she said dismissively. Miizuko come to the beach to have a fun time, any she wasn't going to let some uncoordinated girl ruin it. The fourth team member seemed to be distant, keeping his arms crossed and muttering to himself. "You any good at beach volleyball" she asks to Jackson. Tatsu: It was at that moment Leng had realized something. Something that she was already guessing before, but had to make sure it was real, it was true. The fact that the Chinese girl was clearly surrounded by foreigners. Englishmen, even. Except for one, that was female like her, but that didn't really look that much like the others, more so being Japanese from her looks. The green-haired adult, indeed. The Da-Xia just stays there, almost freezed, nervous and anxious to whatever was occurring. She didn't understand much of what they were saying, but one thing came right through her mind the moment the word was voiced out. A game of volleyball? At the beach? That was probably what she figured they were discussing. Hopefully she was right. The red-haired teenager ends up taking a stand, just dusting off her bare legs from falling down along with a few parts of her shirt and everything, ending up then just looking at each, but mainly focusing her gaze on Gavin. "Uh... Volleyball? Game? There?" She questions, wishing they could notice her accent and her obvious inability to speak English fluently. The girl points over at the beach at the end, but then adds after a single faint gulp. "U-Uhh... Me? Play? You, uh... Three?". Something was actually funny about her way of speaking such a foreign language, but who wouldn't find it amusing all the time? Especially from Chinese people. Those working at restaurants are just the best. The youngster just molds her hands into fists, attempting to hold on to the whole pressure that was being put against her, but mostly from herself, as the others were clearly relaxed, without counting the one kid that looked and sounded stressed or perhaps irritated by something. "Why do I keep bumping into people, every single day...?! Ugh..." Ron: Gavin couldn't understand this country. It seemed like every child here had an annoying stuttering problem. Any stress, new situation, or even apparently older people caused a mental break down to be imminent. Maybe he was missing the culture aspect of it from not watching tv or really learning anything besides the language. He did enjoy the straight forwardness of the other girl though. However, Gavin was glad to finally have this together. For some reason this whole encounter seemed to take several days with the bumping into each other. But with introductions together and finished it was time to play. He was pretty ecstatic that everyone wanted to play as well. Brilliant! Now I haven't played much volleyball of late, but I do have an eye for talent. She may seem clumsy, but we did all just run into each other so we don't have much room to speak. Regardless we'll do fantastic! Lets head over to the court and see if we can get into a game! Gavin spun around toward the beach courts. It was really heating up and the shifting sand between his toes was becoming pretty warm. Walking toward the volleyball court he was starting to glisten with sweat and become rather parched. Not even playing the game and I am this worked up...bollocks I need to exercise more. While walking he figured it would be a good time to mesh and build some rapport. Something every team would need to be successful, and success meant cash for Gavin. So do exquisite people have much experience playing? Or maybe interesting quirks? I am not sure if we can or cannot use them during the game, but it would be fun I am sure. He hoped for the high school volleyball captain or even a crazy quirk that would lock the win in. All he had to offer was injury management, which would be risky if these people were the goody goody type. But competition does bring the best and worst out of people. Me: Raising the collar of his cloak to block out all the staring, Jackson realized that he didn't exactly know how to answer Mizuko's question. On the one hand, he hadn't exactly been invited to play many games or take part in many activities, meaning he didn't quite know the rules nor have the skills one would need to be considered "good". On the other hand, he wasn't terribly clumsy or unfit so that might also make him "good" at the game... whatever volleyball was exactly. "Um... yeah..." The boy mumbled out as a response to the green-haired girl, lowering his collar to see the impromptu leader of their group moving down the beach, listening as he chattered away before responding "I've got a strength boost quirk. Hurts to use it for long, though," choosing to keep things short. He highly doubted one would need to use a quirk for a simple sport. Tatsu: Leng wasn't exactly offended by the fact that she was called clumsy, because maybe she was just that. The Da-Xia made many mistakes in life and was called the black sheep of the family. It wasn't any surprise that she was a 'failure' and she had that in mind. But failures can always improve and become successes. And she was just that type! The young teenager was determined, confident that she could get stronger and stronger, and joining the heroic academy is just another step, a place where she could learn even more about becoming better. As they all seemed to prepare for the game, the red-haired girl didn't even had a chance to say 'yes' or 'no' about participating, but she was way too muddled to even reject such an offer. Well, she had to play! Perhaps that would build more friendship and finally she can have good relations with other people outside of her grandmother, whom is basically the only one she can trust and cares about deeply in the whole world. Though, there was one problem. Leng barely could understand anything that they were 'babbling'. Yes, indeed 'babbling'. It was all really fast for her and only a few words could be taken from the three individuals. "I wish I could understand whatever they are saying... Maybe it's important and here I am pretending I don't even care..." With all of that in mind, the Da-Xia could only hope to follow them wherever they would go. Probably to play volleyball still. Ron: Through their walking conversations Gavin had a good idea of how the games could go. Except the other young lady didn't speak up during this time. Maybe she was mentally preparing for the game, but who knows. Thinking about their conversation Gavin also realized that no one had introduced themselves. Feeling his buzz from the previous two drinks Gavin foggly realized he would need to take the front on this. Well I am Gavin, and if you lot get hurt I got something for that. Hopefully with his introduction and name people would tell theirs as the game with out proper titles would run a muck. They crossed the hotter sand to the courts and Gavin told the group he would get the next game. Hopefully this crew against the rather in shape counter parts wiping the field would skew perceptions into a bet. He would just have to maybe throw a few points and then spin the other team in his words for them to get just cocky enough to allow quirks. Then they would be mad men on the sand. Me: Jackson raised an eyebrow at the last comment, seeing it strange that he asked everyone for their quirk description's yet didn't give his own. Regardless, Jackson was now seemingly in place for the match, having taken the back right position on the sandy court, Jackson began to think of what exactly he was meant to do here. Was it hands only, or was one also allowed to kick the ball? There was certainly a ring out of sorts, but with no discernible markings in the sand- With a monstrous THWACK, Jackson's forehead met with a ball that had been directly launched at him, the game having started whilst the boy was in deep thought. Whilst not the most conventional of rebuttles in volleyball, but most definitely a painful one given the young teen's sudden light-headedness and throbbing facial muscles, it had succeeded in launching the ball a good few feet in the air, and forward no less. Jackson, of course, knew none of this, his mind attempting to process what exactly had just happened. |

Just the last game finished, with the same team winning, Gavin thought this would be an easy scam. The other team high off of endorphin's would be cocky and easy to bait into a bet. Unfortunately just like his luck it seems it was not meant to be. A chilled wind swept the beach from the ocean. Spray crashed into the sand and in the vast blue of the horizon dark grey clouds rumbled. A flash of lightning in the open water caused shrieks from small children, women, and a rather large man making the most noise. Droves were packing up and running to their car. Rain started tapping on the water as it crept closer and closer to the shore. It seems that today would not be his day. Well it seems that this rather series of unfortunate events. Our team mate has shown their invisibility quirk and Mother Nature herself has destined us not to sport with one another. While rubbish, I bid you farewell mates. And with that Gavin took off looking for and form of cover as he didn't have money for the dryers. [exit] |

Earnings:
Items: Everyone gets a small bag of sand that they can use one time against an enemy to grant -2 stat grades in Accuracy for one turn. Notes: I found this thread interesting largely because I got to read about a bunch of new characters, with the exception of the dapper Gavin McMaster (who is, as always, an instigator of mischief wherever he goes). I would have liked to see how the volleyball game turned out, but alas, Mother Nature saved you guys from showing off your quirks. She'll get you all next time. |
