”That’s the stuff,” groaned a man, his cold voice rasping against the rusted floors. His eyes were closed in ecstasy, relishing the taste of something. A wisp of vapour leaked out from his mouth as he talked, forming from the freezing cold air. It was just barely visible, dimly lit by the few overhanging lights which were far above the man’s head in this giant room. Letting out a sigh, his head rested against his metal chair - although it would be more accurate to describe it as a throne. A large metal throne, too big for the average man to fill. He remained seated there as time passed on, motionless like a corpse, long bony arms stretched out and resting on the armrests, eyelids lazily resting down. And yet, even as his eyes were closed, if one was there; they wouldn’t be able to shake an inescapable feeling. As if something was looming there, in the dark, watching in quiet from behind that giant throne, waiting.

”Here ya’ are,” said a jubilant old man, turning his head back as he did. He was sitting at the driver's seat, controlling the small shabby bus as it tumbled on forwards. Lifting his foot off the pedal, the bus let out a squeal of relief and stopped. The engine quiet, the cheery pop music from his radio flooded into his ears. "Doo doo dooo do," he hummed under his breath, putting the bus into park. They’d been driving up an inclining hill for a while, finally reaching the peak after half an hour. And just there at the top, not far away from where they’d stopped, was a sight not many would ever see.

A massive circular vault door, thick metal all the way through. It was big enough to fit a damn house through. The opening jutted out of the side of a mountain, right at its base. Just a week ago, this bus wouldn’t have even been able to near the area. But that was a week ago, and since then things had changed. As it was, the door was wide open, swung to one side as light shined into the abandoned interior.

”That there’s the only entrance,” the bus driver said, pushing a lever and opening the bus’ door. There were 4 people in the bus, all of which looked to be a bizarre crowd. With one glance you could tell something was going on. The bus driver himself knew what they were here for, he was their guide after all. And he had some pity in his eyes as he looked at them - a creeping feeling that they wouldn’t make it out alive.

”As you know, your job’s to infiltrate the reserve and find out what the hell’s going on. Report back with your findings then, you'll receive further instructions after. Each of you grab one of these on your way out,” he said, pointing to 4 brick phones lined up next to the bus’ exit. They were heavy duty, just the caliber necessary for this mission. As it was, the vault was 2 floors deep, going down underground where most signals would be blocked out. The 4 would have to hope that these phones would work. ”Good luck.”

Once they all exited, the man would drive off, heading back the way they came. The group would only be a few dozen meters away from the large vault doors. They were open, light seeping in from outside into the dark interior and illuminating some of it. Aside from that, there were a few dim lights, some flickering on and off, others just about to die.

In their verbal battle, Logan was able to strike a nearly lethal blow against Codi followed by the man talking down as his superior. The snake boy's 'retort' would come soon after to save some face - but that only lasted for so long as well, followed up by a biting portion of shade from Edmée. It was looking drastic for the snake boy, but the group's dysfunctional bickering aside, it seemed the bizarre occurrence of tentacles was enough to shake most of them up and forget about it.

Atticus would react quickly, dodging far out of range before the nearby tentacle could hit him. As it was, this seemed to be the best choice available. Edmée was of a similar thought process in dodging to the side - except she opted to fight rather than flee. It was a brave - although possibly dangerous and wasteful - effort. To start things off, she was successful in dodging the initial hit, her close proximity allowing for an easy sidestep away from the cumbersome tentacle's attack. The orange coating around her body would then help as her foot sliced down at the tentacle, actually breaking through its hide and leaving a gash. For their intimidating appearance, it seemed they didn't have a defence to match it. The tentacle now being wounded, its movements would become sluggish and slow.

Not too far away from the girl was her snake 'ally' - which, if their dialogue had been taken out of context would suggest otherwise. He also attempted to attack the tentacle, albeit with less grace and foresight than his female team-member. Leaping out at the oncoming tentacle, his lacking eyesight abilities would cause his attack to miss its course by a little. The large tentacle would slam against his chest, the boy just barely chomping down onto its side before being flung backwards through the air towards Logan and Atticus - tumbling a little before slowing down.

This left Edmée as the only one nearby the tentacles, although her successful strike would give her some time to flee, unless she really sought to kill the thing. Further down the hallway, if Logan and or Atticus was to be so uncaring to leave their teammate there and continue, would be an elevator alongside one open door on their right side.

As Logan had expected, Atticus was the one who was taking the best care of himself out of the other three group members. The sin of gluttony admired the man's choice to not actually fight the stupid things and attempt to group with Logan so that they could move on from this location. The other two group members didn't seem to have the same idea but hopefully they would get the idea that staying to fight these things was not worth their time. Codi didn't seem to have been so lucky when dealing with the tentacle as the boy was flung through the air towards Logan and Atticus. The burly governor looked down at where the boy had been thrown and shook his head. "Get up. We're going to have to deal with worse things than just these stupid tentacles. No point in wasting energy to fight them if they can't even follow us." Walking past both Atticus and Codi, Logan made his way a bit closer to Edmee before turning to the two males and giving a simple order. "Atticus, take the kid and go to the end of the hall to see what kind of path we're dealing with. I'll make sure the other one gets out of harms way and we'll be with you shortly." With that, Logan turned away from them and focused his attention on the one group member that was still in the path of their current opponents. "Hey!" he called out to her. "We're moving on. Get over here as quickly as you can. I don't think they can follow us." Logan gestured with his hand for her to run over to him so that they could continue onward. He had made himself the leader and in doing so he had made himself responsible for the lives of the group members. As a result, Logan was going to make sure that everyone could get through this as safely as possible.

Hopefully Edmee would listen to Logan's orders because he really didn't want to have to go and fight those stupid things. There was no doubt in his mind that he could do it but was it really worth his time? As far as he was concerned, the answer to that question was a big fat no. While he waited for the girl to make her way over to him, Logan reached a large hand into his bag and pulled out a massive steak wrapped in saran wrap. Not even bothering to unwrap the thing, Logan shoved the entire contents into his mouth before chewing a bit and swallowing the full thing. The man had prepared by bringing food to keep his energy up but it appeared he had actually misjudged just how much nourishment his body actually required. There was only one more food item in the bag left and the mission had barely begun. It looked like Logan would have to find another source of food in the facility in the near future or else risk fatiguing. The last thing that the man wanted was to become a liability to the rest of everyone.

Once Codi was in the air he knew he fucked up. Codi missed his target by an inch and was flung by the tentacle towards Logan. He looked up, smiled and said “That was fun.” He picked himself up as Logan was reprimanding him.

Codi looked at the tentacles and part of him wanted to jump right back in the middle of those disgusting things and utterly destroy them but he would have to fill that desire some other way. Just then Logan commanded him and Atticus to investigate the end of the Hall. “Alright, whatever you say old man.” Codi said with a devilish smile.

There was something about Logan that made Codi just want to see him angry for Codi really wanted to know what his quirk was and that would be a beautiful way to see it come out. Speaking of cum Codi needed to pee awfully badly.

“Hopefully there’s a bathroom that way.” He said towards Atticus

Atticus was still annoyed by the fact that the tentacles only targeted him and the other two. He had to wonder why the good ol governor was left sitting pretty while the rest of them had to deal with some shit straight out of an Japanese porn. Mind you, the tentacles weren't even an issue for him, but it was more so the principle of the thing. He had to wonder and he was set on keeping his eyes focus on what occurs throughout the mission. There was something up and he wasn't going to be caught up in anyone's plan or bullshit. Did that mean he was second-guessing Logan? Hell yeah, he didn't trust any of these people as far as he could throw them.

He would let it go for the time being as he watched the other two. The blonde boy didn't have that much going for him in the brains department. He would try to attack and bite the tentacle... Like, who the fuck does that? Atticus got a good laugh out of it all as he moved his gaze over to the chick who wasn't fairing that much better. At the very least she didn't do anything stupid like bite the tentacle. Atticus wasn't going to jump and help either one of them, they should be skilled enough to get past them, in his opinion.

Thankfully for the blonde, the tentacle would toss his ass out of the fray and towards Logan's feet. Logan would ask him and the blonde to go up ahead, to which Atticus wasn't exactly keen on doing. He didn't trust Logan right about now, but since he was the self-appointed leader, Atticus went along with it. Were something to happen, he could simply throw the blonde boy in and use him as a shield or distraction. Speaking of the blonde, he would bring up the bathroom, to which Atticus would slightly roll his eyes at before giving a deep sigh.

"Think there is one up ahead, you can run and go see. Should be off to the right, I believe." It was a bit cruel, but Atticus would rather have this kid targeted by what was ahead than him. It was the main reason why he walked slower and kept himself some feet behind the boy, while not trying to appear suspicious. Best way to do that was start a conversation. "So, how old are you, kid?" He asked casually while trying to distract the blonde.

Edmée backed off a bit more as the tentacle retreated at her attack She would've completely turned away had it not been for the guy running in like a madman. Half of her considered running in and pulling him out herself. Fortunately, as she quickly discovered, she wouldn't need to! Codi flew right past the woman's peripherals faster than she could follow. She heard a thud without a cry of pain and feared the worst! There was no time to check, however. If she took her eyes off these things for a second, she knew, she just knew that some black magic fuckery would hand her ass to her.

She looked for anyone else in her field of view. This has to be someone's quirk, which means that the guy has to be nearby... Either that, or someone was fucking with them. She needed to regroup, and quickly, before all three of the tentacles could get a chance to take a few swings at her. At both the behest of Logan and her own judgement, Edmée swiveled quickly on her heels and began to run towards the rest of the impromptu mercenaries. Fate offered her a little bit of relief to see the snake guy on his feet. Hopefully, fate would deem that should would be able to keep free of the quirk's flagellating grasp.

She didn't feel well about this at all, now that she got the time to think about it. Why would someone use that quirk after we'd already taken the path? Why wouldn't they use it to prevent our passage in the first place? This situation smells too much for me. It's... "It's a trap!" the woman yelled bluntly, "Open passage, a hostile quirk blocking our way back out and attacking us. It all stinks. I don't know what's up ahead, but I think wherever it is is where the enemies want us to go," she kept her eyes peeled now that she was facing the other direction, a camera, someone that wasn't in the original group, hell, even a floating pair of eyes would at least give her some closure to this situation. "I don't know what you'd rather us do," Edmée would pick up her pace until she was walking beside Logan, " but you're the leader, your choice. Patting the considerable bulgy phone resting tightly in her jacket pocket, the woman would continue, "Also, I don't really know how the labor laws on this side of the Atlantic work, but union I worked for back in France kept a database of all their members and their quirks, but I'd assume this place would do the same. If this was an inside job, then the guy that just ambushed us should be on their's. Want to give them a call?"

Edmée and the rest would make it out safely, half of them already heading on down the hallway. The tentacles continued to writhe around and slam down at the ground and walls, but to no avail. They just couldn't quite reach. None of the group had seen them during the chaos, but at the very furthest distance near the vault doors: there were some especially large tentacles. The sheer size and thickness would be worrying even for the strongest of the group. Fortunately they were far away, but they were telling of whatever horrors lurked down below.

Edmée's suggestion to call the federation was logical, but if any of them were to try and use the phones—they would be sorely disappointed. For one reason or another, the signals had been jammed and there was no longer any way to contact the outside world. It was definitely making out to be a trap, with whoever was controlling these tentacles intending to contain them within and force them deeper and deeper into the centre. Whether it was due to being surrounded by thick mountain or something far more sinister: there seemed to be only one path.

As Atticus and Codi moved on down the corridor, the former's tactics would keep him safe from any traps. It was cruel to use someone else like that, but it was effective. Thankfully—for the both of them—there were no traps. In Codi's rush to find a bathroom; he would indeed come across a room. It was the only room in this corridor, down at the end on the right. This was the aforementioned room with an open door. The inside was dark and gloomy, a singly desk-light flickering about, barely illuminating it. But if the two of them were to walk by it, a voice would call out from inside.

"Hey, stop." The man's voice would be raspy and hoarse, as if he had just yelled for an entire day straight. His back was resting against the desk inside, slumped over slightly with his arms and legs spread out limply. He wore military gear; his dark bulletproof vest and helmet being the most notable pieces in the dark room.

The elevator on the other hand, if anyone was to approach, had its doors closed and the lights above it dimmed.

As Codi and Atticus walked he noticed that Atticus kept his distance but still tried to be pleasant. Codi knew that most of the group disliked him and he didn’t blame them, so for Atticus to at least try to get to know him, well intentioned or not, made Codi happy. “I’m from Penny, Oklahoma.” He said

“How about you he asked?” As they close to the end of the hall where he’d hope to find a bathroom. That’s when he heard the raspy voice and turned to see a man. Codi jumped back a few feet to provide further distance from this mysterious man.

The girl had brought up a good point. If this truly was an inside job then there was probably a record of the quirks that the workers possessed and there was a good chance that there would be somebody that matched up with the tentacles the group had encountered. As they moved away from the writhing appendages, Logan took out the large brick phone and attempted to call the federation. He was disappointed to find that he could do no such thing and with no further use for the phone, Logan took a bite out of it. If it wasn't going to work then at least he could use it as a hearty snack. "They've jammed the signal and the entrance is blocked. It looks like we have no choice but to stop whoever is behind all of this." Continuing on ahead, Logan would meet up with the rest of the group as they were met with two paths. The elevator looked to be a more direct option but there was no way in hell that it wasn't trapped. There was basically no way to tell whether or not the metal box was actually sabotaged which persuaded Logan to try and take the second path. Imagine his surprise when he found that the second path wasn't actually a path and instead a room with what appeared to be one of the task force members.

"Hey, stop."

Logan moved into the room as he took in the man's appearance. The body armor that he wore was the first thing that caught the man's eye, leading him to believe that this man was probably one of the operatives that had been sent in before them. The question now was what the hell had happened to him. "You're one of the operatives, yes?" Logan asked, getting straight to the point. "What happened here? Where are your teammates?" The man was slightly concerned about the guy's well being but in a situation like this they really didn't have too much time to sit around. Still, they would be better off if they took a bit of time, listening to what this guy had to say. There was the odd chance that this whole thing was a trap but Logan was confident that he could handle whatever was thrown at him.

For the most part, Codi didn't look to be suspicious about anything. Perhaps Atticus's attempt at appearing friendly work out better than he would have thought it too. Moving down the hall, he kept his eyes out for anything, moving in narrow spaces wasn't the best thing to do at a time such as this. Behind him, he could hear the one French woman. She spoke of the place is a trap. Which didn't exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out? She would suggest checking the registry for the workers, which wasn't a bad idea, maybe Mr. Governor could make a call. At least, that was his thoughts before finding out the signal was jammed. Man, they were making sure they were covered, huh?

Codi would find a door to his right, with Logan coming down the hall to follow him inside not long after. Keeping at the entrance, Atticus would watch as a man stood before them. He would yell out for them to stop. That wasn't a good thing to Atticus, that could have been about anything. With such a warning, he made sure to keep in the hallway, he positioned himself enough to where he was ready for just about anything, while also keeping his eyes and ears on what was happening in the room. This place was getting weirder and weirder as time went on.

"Mind your heads." He muttered as Logan began to question the man as if he was in the middle of an interview. Whatever he was hoping to find out, Atticus doubt the high strung official was not going to like it.

Safely out of harm's way for the time being, Edmée would releax, and the faint orange aura around her body would fade out. As they walked along, the man would attempt to take her suggestion, but it would prove futile. "Grand theft acéricoles and communications jamming; the law's gonna have a field day with this one!" Looking to the wall at nothing in particular, she put her left hand to her chin, she mumbled under her breath "Would that be obstruction of justice, too? We're not technically law enforcement..." Just then her train of thought would be interrupted by the crunching of plastic. Without looking, she knew exactly what Logan had done.

"Man, when you have to restock on food do you stop at the local grocerie or Ikea?" Part of her didn't really want an answer. From what little she had known the guy walking in front of her he probably wouldn't bother anyway.

The woman heard it too, just barely a whimper, but it echoed around in the hallway. That sounds like a guy begging for me to stop after a few rounds in the ring, and most of those were just acts. I hope my hunch is wrong.

Edmée followed Logan, and leaned on the doorway and crossing her arms as he approached the apparent soldier and began a game of twenty questions with him. If the guy was really injured to the point of paralysis, he probably should have been taking it easier on the guy, but Edmée really didn't have any sympathy for the guy until he proved himself innocent.

"Hey, big guy, I know he looks injured, but for all we know this could be the guy that ambushed us," On that note, the woman turned her gaze back in the direction from whence they came to keep tabs on the tentacles, watching for their movement, or even their presence. If the guy sitting in that room really was the ambusher, he might take the opportunity to give the group a smackdown while they were focusing on different things. If it really was him, he could have been relying on hearing alone to blindly swing at us! Being in his sight could make him a much more fearsome opponent! On that thought, Edmée scanned over the room out of the corner of her eye before looking back down the hallway. Realizing the nature of the quirk they just ran into, she squinted and scanned the ceiling around and above her own head. "Hey, crétins! Keep your eyes peeled! A quirk like those tentacles could attack from anywhere, even and especially the ceiling!"

The man looked at Logan, listening to him speak with a blank expression. Logan's guess was correct, assuming right in the man being from the previous group. He didn't speak to the first question, just slowly nodding with his head. "We... ambushed, by those.. tentacles." His words came out in weak whimpers, just a few words audible at a time. His eyes had a listless look which was just as limp as the rest of his body. He seemed to be about to speak further—cut off by Edmée's concerns and warnings.

"W-wait!" he let out, this time loudly and with force. "2 floors beneath. He is on, the bottom floor. Be careful. Don't touch him. It's a virus—" The man seemed to struggle with each word, writhing slightly and budging around as he did. His words came out in rushed bursts, finally finishing. A content expression washed over his face as he let out that last bit of information. He'd done his job. His mouth shut right after, face bulging like he was trying to hold something in. The man's neck muscles and cheeks suddenly began twitching and convulsing until, suddenly; something ripped out from within his mouth.

It ruptured out from his mouth, tearing at his face and growing larger as it came out. A tentacle. If any of the group were to be watching this as it happened, they would easily be able to recognise it was one of the tentacles from earlier. It slithered out from within his mouth, blood seeping down from his ripped cheeks. It was rather grotesque, his arms flailing at his sides from the pain. Fuck you. He lifted his hand to its side, sheer willpower keeping him alive at this point even with his face completely mangled. His quirk went off, igniting and causing a devastating attack. BANG! An explosion suddenly went off, burning the newly sprouted tentacle to cinders and enveloping the man as well.

His group had failed. He just barely escaped and made it back up here, but it was too late by then. His only duty was to survive long enough for the next group to come so that he could tell them what he needed to. Now he could finally rest in peace.

The room was filled with cinders and smoke, an unlikely place for any of the group to desire entering. The only other place to head was the elevator, which would lead down to the lower floors which the man spoke of.

Codi had never been face to face with a corpse. He had never seen a dead raccoon or a dead rat, he never experienced anything close to death, until now. Not only did he see this man die but he had a front row seat. Codi, who had been obnoxious, cocky, silly, and any other word you can think of was silent. If you looked in his eyes you could see a bit of innocence slip away.

He quickly turned away from the body and walked out of the room and started pacing in the hall. He no longer felt the need to carry on with this mission or use the bathroom. When Codi took on this mission he knew that he could be injured or die but he just assumed since he would have teammates that he would be fine. But after seeing man die in that way, Codi was in over his head.

“I’ve got to get through this mission.” He said to himself, “I can’t die, not here. I have to find a way to survive no matter what.” He said with determination. He had too much to live for and too much in store for his future for him to give up now or roll over and die. He shook out the thoughts of doubt and with a new sense of determination and motive, Codi went back to where the group was and turned to Logan.

“Where to next?”

In retort to her warnings, the man suddenly dumped a load of information. It sounded like he was struggling against something. The woman felt a twinge of guilt as she turned to face the man. Something's wrong with him. He needs help... She tried to move towards him, the sight before her would root her legs. His throat, she couldn't describe it. For lack of a better term, it was bulging. She was transfixed, as his throat turned a sickly purple, blood vessels popping. His mouth swelled as something foreign began to demand escape, and she could see the beginning of a rivulet of blood begin to leak from the man's lips before the grand finale. With a sudden, bloody crescendo, a tendril burst forth from the man's mouth, a melody of scrapes and squishing, a countermelody of tearing, and the percussive beat of snapping tedons caused Edmée's legs to give out, sending her to her knees. The sight of man's mouth open wider than any human's should be threatened to expel the lunch she had eaten earlier, a quick glance at a tooth lodged into the tentacle brought into her mouth, and the sudden end of a nearby explosion finally forced the contents to the floor. She had seen guys pummeled until their mothers wouldn't have been able to recognize their faces, but nothing could have prepared her for this. Edmée sat on her knees, staring. Her eyes were wide and quivering, her hands stuck shaking at her side.

As it turned out, the other group had been ambushed by those tentacles the same way Logan's group had. Unlike them, the first group didn't seem to have been as lucky with those things and from the look of it, this guy was the sole survivor. The man would then mention that 'he' was on the bottom floor and that they had a virus. A virus? That would be a pain in the ass to deal with. Logan knew that he could definitely safely ingest the virus through his stomach but if just touching the guy would infect you then he was probably better off not going near them. "He? Who's He? I'm really not in the mood for the pronoun game right n-" Logan was cut off by a tentacle sprouting from the man's mouth, causing him to take a step back in surprise. "Jesus Christ!" The sin of Gluttony's eyes widened as the man's face blew apart before he took his own life with some kind of explosion quirk. Logan stood in silence as his mind processed just what the fuck had happened. After a couple seconds he recovered, turning to his group members. "We have to keep moving." His voice shook slightly as he spoke, not out of fear but out of anger. The fact that somebody would do that to an innocent man pissed him off to an unimaginable extent. "If there really is some sort of virus then we need to be careful of what we touch. If it comes down to it, my quirk will allow me to eat infected materials safely but we need to be extremely weary of whatever this thing is. Whoever this guy is, we can't touch him."

Logan walked out of the room and headed towards the elevator. He assumed that he wouldn't need to tell them to follow him but he also knew that some of them might need some time to recuperate. Codi had recovered surprisingly well from the horrific thing he had witnessed but Edmee seemed to be completely out of it. The sight she had seen seemed to be too much for her mind to properly handle. Normally Logan would have been annoyed at people not being right behind him but due to the recent events he just waited patiently. One might have felt sick to their stomach after seeing such a gruesome scene but even that did not deter Logan's hunger. Reaching into his bag, the sin of Gluttony pulled out a neatly wrapped ham sandwich and swallowed it whole. This whole assignment had gotten really dark, very fast. He walked over to the elevator and stood in it, making sure it could support everybody's weight. This was a state of the art facility so under normal circumstances, Logan wouldn't be suspicious, however in this scenario sabotage was a very real possibility. If the elevator was trapped then at least only Logan would be hurt or at least that's what the man's thought process was.

Atticus was in a weird position where he wanted to be able to hear everything but keep as far as he could from the room. Standing outside the doorway was the best way for him to do that, even though it left himself open to whatever could pop up on his left and right. Positioning his back against the wall next to the doorway, he kept his eyes out for something or someone on his left and right. While he did this, he listened in on the conversation as he was curious to know all that was happening with this guy.

From the jump, Esmee, the French chick, she would bombard him with questions and whatever else she could think up in that head of hers. All Atticus could think was that the girl talk to damn much, but he agreed with her for the most part. As for the guy, he spoke of being apart of the first team that was sent in beforehand. The guy was shooked and he mentioned something about a guy two floors down from here and him being a virus. It was creepy and it was a slightly above his pay wage to deal with being infected. However, they were stuck in this place until they took out this guy, so he couldn't back out now.

When the events began to transpire with the tentacle coming through his mouth, Atticus had to turn to watch. It was creepy as fuck, honestly, it made him wonder if the tentacles were capable of such things. "That's a scene straight out of a bad Japanese hentai." He joke before the man caused himself to explode to get rid of the tentacle. It was brave, and it looks as if he survived long enough to give this information. "Well, who's ready to head to the trap? Since this guy behind this made sure this guy stayed alive long enough for us to find out just what he wanted. We have two floors to go down, so Mr. Leader, find the staircase." Turning back, he looks ahead of the hall as he waited for the others to proceed before he did so.
