Taller than You

Slades Outfit Minus Shades Slade could only guess how many jewelry stores he'd cased in the past. Ten? Fifteen? Twenty one and a half? The number in his head only seemed to go up the further back he thought, the man getting giddy as he remembered his pile of glittery rocks and fancy watches, a fun little huddle all to himself to nestle up in and take a nap, where he could dream about even more items of rarity! Alas, that was no longer the case when it came to Slade, having hidden away only a tiny portion of his former treasure that would now have to sustain him, the rest of his goodies either in lock up or returned to their rightful place. Damn legal system, handing out his hard stolen goods. On the upside though, every object in even the smallest of establishments now held far greater value to the brute, much like the one before him. Slade stood before the jewelry outfit on the street corner of a lower end neighborhood in Toronto, the man thankful for the cool wind grazing his cheek as he cased the joint, earning only a few looks from passersby, but moreso for his overall size than fear he'd attempt anything. There was no way a guy that big would be sneaking anything out of a small store like that, and who was going to try something in the middle of the day? Slade stood there a moment longer, grinning as he rubbed his chin twice, eyeing a big, blue diamond center piece in the window. A difficult one, but good for dusting off rusty skills. Stretching a bit, Slade prepped himself with a big grin as he declared, "Time to go to work..." And slipped on a pair of shades as he entered the store, small bell going off as he did so. Inside, it was cramped as all hell to him, but that just put more things in reach. It seemed a dusty room, a fair number of cases filled with necklaces, rings and watches of all manner, gold, blue and light pinks glittering in his eyes, Slade struggling to stop himself from salivating. Dashing his eyes about as he heard some noise, Slade found an old man sweeping away further in the back, complete with glasses, work apron and a mess of grey hair. Hmm... he'd need to be quick if this was some kind of family business. The codger would have every aspect of this place memorized to a tee, so a missing piece was sure to catch his eye. For now though, the man glanced at Slade, smiling genuinely with a wave that the giant returned. "Yo geezer! Lookin for something the wife'll find real cute, ya know a butterfly necklace or somethin' hokie. Got anything like that?" Slade asked as he leaned on a display case, his grin ever present and a chuckle within his head as he saw the old man nod and set aside his broom, smiling as he responded. "Of course, of course! Let me just hop to the back and I'll be with you in a second!" And like clockwork, the geezer was off, leaving a grinning thief all to himself. Waiting for the man to shuffle away, Slade jumped right into his work, snapping the lock on the case next to him and digging inside to grab hold of a gold necklace. Yes... the feeling of the chains, the woven details, the sensation of wealth through his fingertips was something he'd pined for for so long. Lost in his fantasy, the thief abruptly shook his head from side to side, remembering his mission. He was without baggy clothes, but pockets would do, funneling the the gold bits into his pants like there was no tomorrow, his malicious grin only growing. "Ahem." Slade halted at the grunt, turning his head to see the owner back with a tray of necklaces from the back, looking very unimpressed. For a moment, Slade's features were blank, a bit taken aback by the man's bravery in even hinting to challenge him. Soon after, the giant gave a hearty chuckle, pulling his hands out of the case and spreading his arms wide, declaring with a softer smile, "Okay, Geezer. Let's just have this go smoothly and no one has to go to the ER..." From there, the man's grin only grew as he approached the still unyielding man as he grabbed a broom for a weapon. Cute. Slade woke up on the sidewalk a few minutes later, a small crowd gather around the man as a headache took form, slowly but surely. He didn't know how the old man had done it, but he'd had his ass right kicked. There weren't supposed to be old man ninjas in Canada damn it. Before anyone could ask the man if he was okay, he got to his feet, hands in his pockets as he towered over the now more fearful crowd, it seeming the geezer had left it at a beating and had chosen to forego the police. Slade walked but a small ways away from the store, cursing himself for having gotten so rusty in prison before he spied a puddle by the roadside, peaking over to get a better look at himself. Nothing insanely bad, but there were definite bruises, which was not high on what he considered a scale of fun. Sighing to himself, the brute parked his rear on the sidewalk, again ignoring the glances as the crowd dispersed, wondering what had gone on with the man. There Slade sat, moping a bit as he roamed in his pockets, searching for anything that hadn't been taken back. His eyes lit up a moment as he felt a small gem, lifting it up and out to the light, holding the tiny blue creature to the sunlight with his index and thumb as he closed one eye for a better look. Was it... yes, it was in fact... "Garbage..." Slade commented, a true frown on his face as his tail slumped, resting his head on his hands and sighing once more. This day kinda sucked. |

Comments: This was a fun thread. Had contrasting personalities, and they mesh well with one another. A big tall, but a bit dumb, bloak getting his butt kicked by an old man and then working with his "wife' to steal it back. I feel for the old man, he was so nice. Enjoy spoils Notes
