The Target

Just another evening in the Santa Clara Valley of California for most of those moving around as the sun was going down and the night life was beginning. Otherwise known as the Silicon Valley this was the center of research design, investment, and so much more. As great minds came together attempting to make the next big thing for each of their respective fields. Of course this was often done on the down low as to not let their competitors know what they were doing or letting them steal away all of their hard work. Some guarded with the most advanced security systems in the world, as others where a little more understated to not draw as much attention to them. Some would even be shell companies or completely nondescript buildings so as to have no knowledge of what they were doing.

Speaking of corporate espionage and stealing inventions and plans there just so happened to be a few people here tonight just for that. They were a rather odd trio of individuals who each had their own reasons to be here and to work together. The things they had in common though was that they had the same quirk, willingness to get their hands dirty for what they want, and a want for some new knowledge and technology without doing the research. What had brought them together did not matter as much as the goal that they had in mind for this particular night of criminal escapades.

The location they were trying to hit must have gotten their attention by not having any particular company taking credit for the large building and that despite being able to see into this building with windows giving the appearance of openness nothing of note was displayed. This was all very suspect and made them wonder what was hidden within. Even at night the insides were visible as the lights were on and everything was white with nothing really of note inside except for a lot of stairs, halls, and a single guard sitting at the front desk. If there was more to the security it would not quite be evident from a far.

All of this could be seen the cafe across the street that would make a great place to observe and watch the building. The building may have had another entrance, but that would require them to get up and do some leg work to find out as the building was quite large. If they did choose to sit in the cafe they would see a variety of different clientele among the shop from businessman looking to relax, hipsters that were working on their novels and poetry on laptops, a tourist couple that seemed to be taking pictures of everything, and a tired looking man in a white coat who seemed to be ordering a lot of coffee and snacks. If they had been watching the building they would have noticed that he had come from it. He was in his late twenties and looked like he could really use the coffee not being too observant of his surroundings. What this trio would do and how they would approach the heist or each other was left to be seen. Heck even what the lab was researching was a mystery. Hopefully this trio would work like a well oiled three musketeers instead of the three stooges.

"How did you get this lead?" Tsukasa asked as his father walked him to the air port. "Some guy was looking for help, not exactly legal stuff though so it wasn't like a job ad or anything. We may be small time junior but even we got connections, this guy didn't seem like he was very well established either so this was a lucky find. Maybe. It could go pretty bad, hahahahahaha~" he bursted out laughing, patting his own stomach. It was funny to him of course, his life wasn't the one on the line. "We can't pay for a hotel or anything so just get in and out, hop back when you're done. If you make it out of this you could come out much the better for it. Uh, you've been working on your english right?" Tsukasa just idly nodded his head. Being shipped off to a foreign land you only kinda spoke the language of to break into some laboratory to enhance your quirk which you are not even sure how it works even.

"Understood." he replied simply, a boy of few words, he boarded and off to america he went.

Around in the evening he went to the designated meeting point, across their target into a small cafe. He'd been asked what a small girl was doing alone at the hour but Tsukasa assured them he was meeting friends, now waiting in the cafe he watched the people coming and going, and kept his eyes on the building as he awaited he teammates. Maybe I can learn a thing or two about my quirk if they have the same thing. He thought to himself. He watched as one man left the building and entered the cafe, discreetly keeping an eye on him. He'd have to have a way in right? But if he did not return... he again complempated to himself, used to working alone. He'd hope his allies make themselves known soon, because collecting debts off of bums did not prepare him for something like this.

Late in the afternoon before the sun had set, a jogger made his way down the busy Santa Clara street. Rounding the corner of the intersection, the jogger adjusted his cap to better obscure his face, pulling up the hood on his coat as he looked over the building. The tiny camera integrated in his eye recorded a steady feed of the building’s exterior. Stopping to ‘catch his breath’ and take his pulse, the jogger casually paced the building, recording entrances and noting what info he could of the exterior. After lingering just long enough to study the joint, but quick enough not to arouse suspicion, the jogger moved back down the street, finishing his pre-plotted route.

Back at his hotel, Kirin stripped out of the track suit, hopped in the shower, and prepped for the heist. Choosing a rather innocuous black windbreaker over a turtle-necked tee, Kirin gathered his gear in his bag before catching a bus back to the target. Strolling into Cafe and making a B-line to the bathroom, Kirin ensured there would be no need to answer the call of nature during this heist.

Kirin exited the cafe bathroom, fussing with his belt as he hefted the duffle bag back onto his shoulder. While the bag was intended to carry several of his tools, it didn’t hurt to stock up on toilet paper and soap at the Cafe’s expense. Having finished raiding the men’s room, he casually scanned the cafe’s customers for his contacts, or at least the individual who had called for this heist.

Kirin found a table in the back, setting his bag down on top of it and squatting down, straddling the back of the chair with his chin planted in his palm. Fussing through the bag, Kirin retrieved a manilla folder, then placed it securely under the bag. It’s contents were what important features he had gained from his jog, photos and a little bit of research he had dug up. It wasn’t much, but the little bit of diligence he had shown could mean the difference between success and a stay in the pokey.

While he waited for the others to arrive, he kept a close eye on the various customers that came and went, all behind the obscuring lenses of his sunglasses. He kept an eye on the man in the white coat particularly, casing him like Kirin would any mark, noting his pockets and watching his hands. He was distracted, good. Next Kirin observed the Asian girl… boy… kid who had been lingering for some time as well. Finally ordering after all this time, Kirin made the queue to his fellows in the heist clear. Three cups of coffee, three chairs, one teen occupying all three as he hid his face in the darkest spot in the cafe. Kirin was by no means a professional burglar, but he was one hell of a smooth criminal.

Daris rolled down the sidewalk casualty on his heelys as he examined the large building next to him. As he rolled along he noticed a jogger who had stopped and was passing the building. Not giving it much thought he pulled his hood father over his face and continued towards the meet up point. Soon arriving at the cafe he rolled over to the far side of the dinner and casually sat down and ordered a burger when the waiter came to him.

As he munched down on his burger he saw the same joger enter and head to the bathroom. When he had finished he saw the young boy leave and sit down at a table on the opposite side of the cafe. The boy had caught his attention a little along with a girl who was sitting down at a table. Hum… he thought to himself as he sat back in the chair, maybe these are the others i'm working with? I'll just wait for one of them to show themselves or make themselves known. He decided as he chilled and kept a eye on the other two in front of him.

The trio had all arrived at the predetermined meet up, but they had yet to actually make contact with each other in any sort of way besides a subtle hint that they should sit with the man with three cups of coffee. Of course they had the whole night to pull of the heist so getting right into it wasn't exactly required right off the back, but they only had tonight from the info that they had gotten them jump at this heist. For some reason somebody had let them know that the buildings security would be lightest tonight and that they were working on something rather new. Whether it was somebody who had some sort of problem with the company or if it was simply because they had some more nefarious plans behind the scene was unknown, but it was quite obvious that the building had less guards then the day before.

This would be especially assured to those who had cased the place before coming to the meeting place. They would have a bit of a better of a grasp of the buildings lay out as they would have seen a few other guards patrolling here and there, but there was only ever one or two guards walking around during a patrol and there was at least 10 minutes between each patrol during the time they observed them. If this was simply how it worked during that time and not a constant thing was unsure, but one thing was the same regardless of the patrol. They always began and ended their patrol from a door situated on the ground level past the reception desk a good 20'. Something was written on the door as something was written on all the doors, but it would not be clear enough to read while playing the guise of a jogger since they would have to get right up on the window and strain to see it.

As for other entrances that would lead into the building there only seemed to one other way in besides the front door and breaking a window. It was on the opposite side of the building from the entrance and was the only part of the building that was not revealed by windows. It was all black and from what could be seen before this section seemed to be a 2o' by 20' area of the building that had doors entering it right before the wall started. What was in it or why it was covered was unknown, but it would not be the easiest thing to get into.It seemed to have no handle on this side, and if he had paused at it he would see it was rather securely closed on the other side. It was most likely a fire escape or emergency exit of some sort. If that was not enough it also had a camera positioned above it.

Back to the cafe any of those that were watching the man in the lab coat would notice that he was getting a bit impatient as he did not have his coffee yet and started to slouch onto the counter and tap his fingers against the counter as if trying to annoy the overworked barista into going faster. To those paying particular attention they would see that his coat had large pockets on either side and a pocket with pens on his chest. In addition to the pens though seemed to be some sort of laminated badge of sorts that was attached to a pull cord for easy use. He would be waiting on the barista a little longer as she had seemingly finished four drinks for the man, but still had another cup tray of four more to fill. If this was just what he thought he would need to last the night or some for coworkers it would show that he was certainly not working alone tonight.

As this was going on the couple of tourists would be behind him in line and instead of just stand there and wait they wanted to make the most of their time as they walked over to the young 'girl' and asked her to take their picture in front of the window with their disposable camera. If they declined then they would move over to the patron eating his burger and ask him the same. They seemed innocent enough and would even offer a tip of a few bucks after getting their picture taken. To those still looking at the building it seemed that a patrol had just started meaning that the opportune time to strike was only a few minutes away.

Tsukasa was admittedly growing a little bored just people watching. Though a particular man caught his eye as he seem to be coming from a jog and heading straight for the rest room. Bleh, nothing of importance he guessed. Honestly, the more he sat here the more restless he got. The plan was so vague and he did not even know who he was supposed to meeting. If they were no shows he couldn't just go home empty handed could he? That'd no doubt frustrate his father and himself. It'd be a big waste of time and money and nothing to show for it. No now that he was here Tsukasa had to commit even if it meant going alone. Though the thought was admittedly a bit nerve wracking for the young man, he beat up losers for some cash, not do some kind of infiltration mission. Even with a time this was out of his element. He sure hoped the guy who put this together wasn't an idiot...

As he was lost in his own thoughts the man who entered the bathroom wearing a new outfit. Tsukasa blinked once or twice, maybe because he was already discreetly staring but the outfit changed stood out to him. Could he be one? Tsukasa asked himself, staring out the window to the building while hugging his knees to his chest, trying to make himself as small and unnoticeable as possible. Tsukasa eyed the other who entered and ordered a meal but did not think of much of him. He did notice the other man order three cups and had two empty chairs. Was that...a signal? It was entirely possible the man was just waiting for friends but how often did people go out jogging, change in a cafe bathroom, and meet friends in the middle of night? Tsukasa figured one of two things could happen here. He could go over and sit with the man, check if he was one of the ones he was meeting and would either find out he was the one, or Tsukasa would just make himself look like a creepy fool.

It was a good thing Tsukasa did not care what people thought of him.

The boy lowered his legs to the ground and stood, walking over to sit besides the man and before a coffee. He wasn't a fan so he did not take a drink. "Halo." he said, his accent a bit obvious. "Speak engrish?" he asked, he then spoke japanese continuing with "Do you know any japanese?" communication was something they likely forgot to take into consideration... so far this whole operation was very..amatuer.

"Yuu arr, the guy?" he asked, if the man had no idea what he was talking about then that'd be enough for Tsukasa to know he was not, speaking with his head down, resting on his arms that were folded over the table, as if he was going to take a nap, looking up at the other man. "And number tree?" he asked again, for confirmation that there was in fact three people on this job.

The things in the cafe were mostly the same, the tourists not able to find anybody willing to take their picture and not fond of still having to wait decided that it would be best to just leave as they would take a few pictures of the surrounding buildings on their way out. It seemed they were rather interested to get some pictures of the area though they would quickly move out of view of the cafe as they headed further down the street. The barista was still doing her best to finish the man's rather large order as she had just finished up the last of his drinks and was getting him some muffins and cookies that he was asking for. His look of annoyance was more tempered now as he was happy to be getting ready to go back to work. Probably not usual for most employees, but then again standing in a line doing nothing probably wasn't that interesting either.

As for the rest of the patrons they did not really seem to do anything that would particularly catch attention as most were either talking to friends about their day or finishing up their novels on their laptop still. The three involved in the heist still did not seem to mesh together as a team. Even though Tsukasa had approached the man that was giving clear signals that he was part of the heist he did not give any sort of acknowledgement or even pay him much attention as if he was lost in thought or simply dazed. Why that was is unknown, but even the person he suspected to be the third just kept eating his burger as if none of this even affected him. Maybe they were just playing it real subtle or maybe they had backed out or reconsidered. Regardless time was ticking down as the guards were almost done with their walk leaving the opening for this round of infiltration rather narrow. They could always wait till they went on patrol again, but the later it got the more suspicious and less overall time they had to investigate the building. They were working against the clock on this and not very efficiently.

Daris sat back in his chair as he watched the other two he had decided to keep a eye on seem more and more like they were the ones he was to be working with. “Well it's not like i'll find out by just sitting here.” Daris muttered as he got up and walked over to where the little girl had gone to the jogger who was sitting at a table set for 3. As he casually passed by the man in the lab coat he eyed the security badge hanging from his coat, it could be a good idea to grab that as it appears to be for the target building.

Arriving at the other two people daris casually slid into one of the seats and tapping his fingers on the table before speaking to the two. “Alight so what’s the plan?” he said to them. If they were the ones he was looking for they should know exactly what he was talking about, if not he could just casually say he was mistaken and leave.

As Kirin sat there, idly drinking his coffee as one by one the others approached. Letting out a faint sigh he assessed them. Blinking a bit in surprise at Tsukasa, he narrowed his eyes. He had been told to watch for two guys, had his intel been wrong? Shaking the thought from his head he responded to his question, his English masked by a thick latino accent. “Ya, I speak English… better than you ese.” He relaxed a little as he heard the familiar Japanese. “Yeah… this is better actually.” When Daris joined them as well, he sized the boy up. So this was the guy who had hired Kirin, didn’t seem like much.

Answering his question, Kirin took the lead and began to show what he had gathered. “Ok, here’s some surveillance I made earlier, while that back door would be the most inconspicuous, but it’s a little outside my abilities to get it open. Making it through the front entrance might be quicker, but with those windows we would either have to be really smooth or really quick.” Leaning in, he gestured with his face towards the man in the lab coat behind him. “He may be out ticket in, but I doubt he will let us in without a fuss… Ideas?”

Kirin sat back, having felt he had more than carried his weight up until this moment, he waited to see what the others brought to the table. He quietly bobbed his leg, getting antsy in part do to the coffee he had ingested. His team weren’t’ striking him as the most competent, but he had made more with less. What mattered was they get the ball rolling.

Tsukasa blinked a few times as he translated the man's words to japanese. He also had an accent though it was less prominent than the boy's own. He said ese...Tsukasa assumed this to be his name, and luckily the man actually spoke japanese. That'd make things a bit easier if nothing else. Tsukasa was about to speak when another man joined and simply asked what the plan was... Who is this joker?? Tsukasa thought but kept an expressionless gaze. If this was the third then surely it was Ese who put this together, Tsukasa could not imagine the last one was the one responsible for this...he really hoped it wasn't him at least...

"Why did we meet somewhere so public?" he asked Ese, keeping his voice down even if it was unlikely the people around them understood japanese. Tsukasa's eyes fell on the man who was looking like their best bet in. "I might have a plan to lure him somewhere and we can maybe knock him out... but they'd probably be expecting him back, someone must be waiting on him unless he is really going to eat that order all alone..." Tsukasa glanced around again for any other options though none were obvious... "A can make my hand work like a drill, it might be able to break the back door down. It might not be very subtle though..." he sighed, why didn't the leader prep a plan? Did they gather and he just decided to wing it? Which one of these two was even the leader!!

Tsukasa inched closer and spoke softly "I can try and act hurt, call out to the lab man when he leaves and lure him over so we can jump him, it's pretty risky though and he might just ignore me. If someone else comes around just stay hidden and I can play it off if we wanna do it that way." after words he sat back down on his chair, sipping the coffee. "ick.." he forgot, not a fan of bitter things.

As the group planned and plotted the barista would finally manage to get a handle on finishing up the mans order and wish him well with a large smile on her face. He seemed much less amused by this then the barista. He rolled his eyes and seemed to have a look on his face as if he was fed up with the whole situation and this was all beneath him. He did seem to be a researcher of sorts so getting coffee runs probably not what he had in mind. The fact that they did not have an intern or a security guard go get it though might have meant something to the group if they thought about it but what exactly that was would be up to speculation with that said he would stack the cup trays on top of each other and then put the bag of snacks on top of that. It would seem that he had done this before as he maid his way towards the door with his purchase in hand and turning as he got to the door going to push it open with his back if he did not get any sort of attention or assistance from those around him. If they were going to move on the guy they would probably want to get it started as it was not a far walk across the street.

Meanwhile the tourists from earlier might have caught their eyes as they seemed to go into another building across the street adjacent to the one they were going to rob. This building was also rather nondescript but that seemed to be because they had planned to replace it with a new building soon though they would not know that unless they were locals or had done their research. What could the couple of tourists be doing here, but that was not something for them to worry about as it seemed that the guard was doing a few more rooms then finishing his patrol.

The group had gotten together now and exchanged a few ideas, but no real plan was decided or agreed upon. They had a bit of a way to go as a group and should they succeed or at least not go to jail they would most likely set up a better plan ahead of next time they attempted a caper.

Kirin let out a long sigh as he assessed the two. They barely had a plan, no real contact in the inside, and one of them barely had a clue. He had no answer why they were meeting so close to the target, everything about this felt even more shady than he was. Offering a shrug, he listened to Tsukasa’s plan, it was crude and had tons of holes in it, but it was there best bet.

As they chatted he kept his eyes on the others in the cafe. His eyes traveled over the tourists, wondering if he could prey on their desire for some urban exploration. Maybe the buildings were equivalent in height, that would make things much easier. Looking back to the line he saw their lab coat mark was on the move, watching him finally get his order. There was something peculiar about this guy, but Kirin couldn’t quite place what was bothering him. Should he really be alone?

“Ok, we’ll go with one of those… in the mean time, follow my lead” He rose up from his chair and looked over at Daris, “You, try not to get in the way” He made his way over to the man in the lab coat, holding the door open for him as he struggled with his arms full of his purchase. Offering a crocodilian smile as he made casual small talk, keeping the man’s attention on himself. “Got chilly pretty fast, a warm cup o’ Joe was a good idea. Think you got enough there?” He chided sarcastically as he waited for one of the others to step in and follow through with his lead.

Tsukasa nodded and followed Ese's lead even if this plan was stupid and barely thought out it was that or sit and have coffee. Tsukasa did not like coffee so stupid plan it was. As Ese stood up and went over to make small talk, opening the door for the man but stalling him Tsukasa stood after a few moments, stuffing his hands in his pockets and walking with his head down in a hurried step. As he reached them he rudely tried to push through and slip past them but would fail intentionally, making it look as if he accidentally bumped into the lab man, spilling his order all over the floor. Tsukasa gasped and covered his mouth.

"O-oh! My goodness, s-so sorry!" he stammered out with his accent that made it obvious that english was not his first language. If nothing else the plan would stall the man as they tried to think of something. Tsukasa would try something even he thought of as completely idiotic. "Very forgive!" he said, hoping the man would buy the act and think Tsukasa was just some ditzy foreign girl. "Allow me to clean!" he told the other as he tried to remove the lab coat, hoping it'd have a badge or something he could swipe as he tried to remove it from the man, grabbing at it and trying to tug it off, quickly glancing at Kirin, as this would be the best distraction to swipe the badge if he was able to spot it and Tsukasa was not.

If Tsukasa was able to find a badge or id or something to give them access while he was trying to tug off the lab coat he'd discreetly swipe it, taking it into his palm and morphing his palm to open a compartment to store the badge in before giving up and releasing the man with an apology.

Daris frowned as he was told to take a back seat as the other guy stood up to take action. “Whatever... “ he muttered as he stood up to do a he could. As it turned out there wasn't much for him to do as the girl rushed past him and bumped into the man in the lab coat spilling his coffee as the other boy attempted to open the door. “What are they doing… oh i get it” he muttered under his breath as the small girl began to attempt to shrug off the man's lab coat and swipe the id. As the others tried to snatch the id Daris looked out the window at their target observing the guards as they passed. Hopefully he could do something next time.

As the team had sorta agreed on a plan they had swiftly gone into action in order to try and make use of the man that had conveniently been in the cafe they were observing from. The man did not really seem to care much that the boy was holding the door open for him since he would have easily done it himself and had already not been the mood to deal with people. He would still reply simply because social norms seemed to dictate so." Its not all for me obviously and I need to get going so if you do not mi.." Before he could finish his statement though Tsukasa had crashed into him and knocked over the top tray of his order but not all of it as even while distracted he had been used to this and had a good amount of balance. This still spilled a lot of coffee and knocked over his snacks that were now covered in coffee. You could tell from the expression that he had that he was most certainly not pleased and he did not really care if they were a foreign tourist or a local he just wished that they had been watching were they were fucking going.

As they went to pull of his jacket he would be rather resisting to this as he honestly did not care that some had spilled on him and really just wanted to be out of this place and get back to work cause he was not going to be waiting in that line again." Look your an idiot, but I don't care I can wash it off at my work so just get your hands off me alright!" he would call out as he would pull away and make some distance by walking out the door. Not before giving Tsukasa a chance to slip off the rather obvious name badge that he seemed to have visibly clipped onto the jacket. It would be a bit wide and hard to conceal fully in her palm, but he seemed to want out of their bad enough that he did not really seem to care to look around or check his person. At closer inspection it seemed like your typical name badge with his picture name and the word researcher written below that. On the back was a sort of bar-code that could be for many things. Unless they had any more business with the man though he would make his way towards the building crossing the street at his earliest convenience. Enough time for them to catch up to him if they wanted or to generate some space so they would not be their for him to accuse should he notice it is missing.

The tourists were nowhere to be seen and the streets were starting to quiet down as they would be able to see the guard heading back into the sealed room from his rounds. They had gotten something of use from the man, but would it be enough for them to make this caper a success or was it just enough to get their feet in the grave.
