The sigh the dragon girl gave did not go unrecognized by the fox boy, Mairu blinking twice as he frowned, wondering what had gotten her upset. Mairu, not wanting to pry into her matters but also not wanting to just leave her in the dumps, looked around to see if there was anything he could use to cheer her up with. Spotting the buckets of dye just lying there, the boy grew a knowing grin, a fang popping out as he split his view between the laptop and the cans on the desk. Nonchalantly dipping the tip of his tail into the container, the boy flicked the colored dye into the air above the dragon and began to whistle nonchalantly as a cloud of yellow descended upon her. The creaking of floorboards and a voice brought the fox boy's attention to the door, finding a tall, scarred man standing there, asking the duo if they could help him out with a fairly dead-pan voice. The boy stared at the stranger for a moment, wondering if he could place him in his memory, but coming up empty. While this was technically a secret lab, he supposed it wasn't a private one, not minding the intrusion one way or the other. "Sure! I'll help as much as I can!" The boy declared with a smile and thumbs up, listening to the man as he multi-tasked on the laptop, finishing up coding for blunt damage and moving onto repairing after tears. The little dragon was quietly working on pinning the remaining sleeves together when was strange dust settled over her and her work. The creature looked at the yellow dust curiously with a glance over her work and then over her back where the colour popped against the dark feathers. It seemed to be the same kind of yellow that graced the orphans chest. Artemis looked curiously at Mairu, but her foxy friend seemed to be pretending to be oblivious to anything that had happened. If he hadn't been whistling she probably would've believed him too. As slyly as she could, Artie hooked one of the pots of dye and tugged it towards her while her paws kept busy at their work. When the bottle was close enough, the dragon quickly grabbed it and had it's lid of, exposing the sky blue powder. A quick turn and she swept her wing over and slightly above it, sending a cascade of colour towards Mairu in retaliation. The amusement that rose up at their little colourful fight was held in check as an older man walked into the room. Artemis became instantly wary about the man, even though she had no reason to be. She looked between the stranger and her friend before ending her inspection with a shrug. If the man attacked them she could at least deal a bit of damage, although that seemed unlikely. If he wanted to hurt the two he wouldn't have announced his presence. The orphan signed "Hello" to the newcomer, briefly curious if he could actually communicate in her language. But with Mairu acting as the two's voice, Artemis got back to her work. She fired up the sewing machine and, after a quick try of the different stitches that it had programmed into it over a small scrap, she was ready to put the sleeves together. The pile of the pinned material lay to her side, allowing the little creature to grab one, feed it through the machine, snip off the trail of thread and then move on to the next. The pins could always be pulled off once the lot were finished. Paint progress

Nefertum looked at them both as they gave their responses. He looked at Artemis, who had just signed "Hello" to him, but her sign language was lost as he did not speak it. He did however make the assumption that she was greeting him, he nodded to her "I'm sorry I don't know sign language." He then turned his attention towards Mairu, who had smiled at him and give him a thumbs up, Nefertum looked at him, seeing the enthusiastic boy smile, taking him back to his childhood when he was actually a decent person.. "I guess my first question is... where the fuuuuu-" Given the appearance of Mairu, he assumed he was still a child changing his word choice mid-sentence "heck am I?" He scanned the room with his eyes taking notes of the inventory inside the lab. He saw the fabric, the dyes and the... computer? He understood the fabric and dyes but he was confused as to why there was a laptop. He just shook his head and assuming maybe they had to make a specific and the computer had the design on there. He definitely had more questions, but knowing his location seemed more important. Last he recalled he remembered in North Africa but he was rendered unconscious at the elections. The dragon's rebuttal to the boy's little prank was very much expected, the boy distracted by the stranger at the door when he felt a puff on his back, spotting sky blue powder out of the corners of his eyes as he spoke with the man, entering a small giggling fit after. Well there was no turning back now, no matter how matted his fur got. Keeping his attention on the man at the door, nodding along as he explained he didn't know sign language, the boy used his size to his advantage, tapping Artemis on the shoulder with one tail while dabbing two others into some random dye as he hopefully distracted her. "No worries! I'm learning myself!" The boy declared, taking his dyed tips and dabbing the tiny dragon thrice with his two other tails, dousing her in purple spots over the yellow. Keeping up the ruse of not noticing, in spite of probably smothering the girl in fur by now, the boy focused on the stranger. His stop start swearing almost got a surprised look from the boy till he corrected himself. Someone else's house or not, swearing was still a big no. The man's question would probably have been confusing to most, but given the boy's circumstances, he could relate, wondering if the stranger had traveled by crate himself. "This is Elysium, Mercutio's island! Well, I guess more specifically, this is a hidden lab in a mansion that belongs to a pair of Canadian twins. We're making some cloaks for the people in charge, but you can come hang out if you want. If you wanna know more about the island though, you should -mnch- ask-ask Artemis..." Mairu struggled to finish his sentence as he looked back down at the seamstress turned yellow and purple, looking like a candied treat and the boy having to suppress a few laughs with his free hand. Forcing his eyes back onto the computer, the boy giggled slyly as he finished the coding that would allow tearing repair. Now onto acids! Those would be tricky... Build Progress Paint Progress

It seemed like the little dragons retaliation wouldn't go without one itself. When Mairu had tapped her on the shoulder with some of his tails, Artemis looked at her friend curiously, wondering what he could want. When it seemed like he only wanted her to pay attention to the conversation that the two were having, the orphan just huffed a bit and shrugged. She had work to do and was keen to get down to business. It was rare when Artie would have access to a sewing machine., ignoring the other brush from her friends tail dye to not wanting to get distracted. The machine made sewing things together so much quicker than her own paws would allow. Artemis whizzed through the entire stack of sleeves like there was no tomorrow. Not only that, but she had made sure to pin them roughly evenly, so that every single line of thread was almost identical in each piece. A quick few snips with the scissors and another round with the sewing machines had them all trimmed and hemmed. With an ear kept on the conversation, the now multicoloured creature was able to keep up with events while still being able to continue her work. It was then that confusion followed as Artemis heard Mairu's struggling. She looked up from the cloth and pins in her hands to see her friend laughing at something to do with her. Artie tilted her head before she had a look herself, after which she joined Mairu's amusement with a few guttural chuckles of her own. Artemis picked up her paper and pen and quickly wrote a message down, since neither companions could converse fluently in sign language. "I don't know much, but I'll try and answer". With her message conveyed, the little dragon once again went through the careful motions of her words, in case Mairu and even the newcomer, still wanted to learn. After that, Artemis went back to work, pinning the bodies of the cloaks together. It had more pieces and therefore took more work, but would certainly be worth the comfortable fit they'd provide. While she was working, Artie looked over the numerous colours, making her choice carefully. A bright, vibrant and almost painful pink caught the dragons eye. When Mairu was busy with his coding and talking with the older man she quickly picked up the bottle and grabbed a handful before placing it back. Artemis swept her paw and head towards the back of her friends head, opened her palm, and blew a gust of cold breath towards him, sending with it a cascade of pink before quickly getting back to work, smudging everything around her with the colour. build progress Paint progress

Nefertum watched the two "play" but saw no amusement from it. His humor was more crude and dark, which was most definitely suited to be done around children. Nefertum made sure to pay attention to whatever the boy was saying as he wanted as much information as possible. The man looked at the tiny dragon, reading her note and then watching her move her hands . He assumed that this was her sign language and by the speed of which she was doing it she was either really bad at it or was trying to demonstrate how to do it. Nerfetum's ears kind of twitched hearing the name Mercutio.... "Mercutio... Is he the one that caused the damage at the elections?" He slapped his forehead forgetting his manners, yes he needed to know what happened and what was going on, it was still poor manner not to give them his courtesy. "My apologizes where are my manners?! My name is Nefertum, son of Alexandra and Jefferson. What are your names if you don't mind me asking?" Feeling a bit fatigued, he leans his back against the wall and crossing his arms in front in front him. Crossing his arms caused his black torn tank top to be pulled down exposing a corner of his skin pocket on his left pectoral. |

The douse of pink on the boy's hair was something rather unexpected, having buried himself so deeply into his work that he hadn't even thought about Artemis' retaliation, blinking twice as he got the dust out of his eyes. Spotting a faded reflection on the screen of the computer, the boy let loose a small giggle that slowly turned into a full on laugh as he stated jokingly, "I don't want the girl colors!" Dropping all pretense of their exchanges being accidental anymore. Responding to the quick sign language lesson with a decent amount of enthusiasm, Mairu got to work cleaning off the screen, mostly missing the man's first question as his mind was otherwise occupied with making sure his hard coding wouldn't go to waste. The stranger had asked something about their names after introducing himself as Nefertum, the boy satisfied with his work as he turned back to the man and responded, "Hiya! I'm Mairu, and this...." Judging by inclination of his voice, the boy seemed to almost be leading up to a grand reveal, when he was in fact just buying time, dabbing his index finger in green dye before pressing it to the dragon's stomach and declaring, hopefully in tandem with her writing, "... Artemis! Getting back to business, and still open to any questions he had proper answers to, the boy dusted the worst of the green dye off and got back to work. Coding for acid was done and, after a few more strokes of the keyboard, the boy finished up with repairing for a few rarer, but smaller repairs, going over his work before he gave it all a decisive nod. From there, the uploading began to the single strand, which would soon be ready to have its code spread to its clones. Build Progress Paint Progress

When Mairu had exclaimed that he didn't want "girl colours", Artemis made a small offended sound at the back of her throat and threw in the facial features as well. It was a silly thing to think that one colour was "female" and another was "male". They were all colours after all, and able to be used anywhere. But the offended nature on the little dragon was mainly for show. The two were having fun, playing about, and her friend didn't seem that upset about being covered in pink anyway. Previously, the orphan was able to ignore the name of the man that she hated and feared when her friend had said it in passing. Unfortunately, their new companion jumped on the name and even made a connection to the disastrous elections. The little dragon looked pointedly at her work as she moved the rest of the shapes to the sewing machine, where they'd be joined together to form the main body of the cloak. If Nefertum paid attention, he might notice how nervous the little x-form had gotten, as well as how sad. Artemis did her best to hide those emotions, however. Mairu going back to their play fight with the dye did help temper the dark thoughts that wanted to rise up, those memories stained with red that haunted her dreams. Artie didn't mind Mairu introducing her, it saved more writing and signing. Not to mention it was followed with a playful poke from a finger that was smeared in green. 'I have to think up a good colour' The little dragon decided as she set the machine to sewing the coats up. One of the colours closest to the orphan caught her eye. It was a lilac purple, light and delicate in colour. A brief thought of Mairu probably pouting at being sprayed with another "girl" colour popped into Artie's head, however she dismissed it. Perhaps later she'd use the lilac. Her eyes instead drifted to the side as her fingers fed the fabric into the machine steadily. Next to the lilac was an oak brown. Darker than Artemis would usually use, but it'd do for now. As carefully as she could, the little dragon grabbed the pot and opened it. She flicked her tail around and dabbed it into the pot, clumsily moving it about the get the black feathers well coated. Artie then flicked her tail around, as if she was bored, and hit Mairu on the arm, leaving a large splat of brown. Build Progress Paint Progress

Nefertum watches the two play, almost feeling a slight amusement from watching them. He was slightly curious about what he was coding into the threads for the cloaks, but decided not to ask about it. When he looked to the tiny dragon, he noticed that she had become more reserved. He noticed that she did this after he mentioned Mercutio, he pushes himself of the wall and walked closer to the little dragon. Nefertum squats to get to eye level with her. He looks at her and tilts his head slightly to the right, his blue eyes looking her over seeing patches of her black feathers from between the dyed ones. He looked her in the eyes, his blue eyes matching with her Arctic blue eyes. When he did this he saw sadness, the kind he used to see in his own reflection. He simply nods to her and then stands up, beginning to walk the room looking at any and all equipment, humming softly to himself as he walked. He stopped in the center of the room and then turned towards Mairu and Artemis. He stood with his hands behind his back and spoke a little bit more than he did before. "How old are the two of you?" Nefertum wished to know even though answers would not having any affect on the way he spoke to them, they had shown him respect so he had no reason not to treat them the same. He stood there more intrigued than he had been, watching the two dyed X-forms. |

The boy was glad to see the man was slowly beginning to enjoy their antics, even if they were separated by what probably amounted to a good decade or two of life experiences. Seeing Nefertum approach Artemis, he assumed the man and her were planning on having a discussion of sorts to explain things to each other. While that was happening, the paint-covered boy typed away at the computer, going into the final steps of coding. With the fibers ready to come together and repair themselves after a great deal of trauma, the next step was spreading this code to all the other pieces of fiber. For this, Mairu sought out the signal shared between all the fibers and began to sync them up, ready to share the coding between each and every strand once they'd finished up all the cloaks. He was also careful to heavily encrypt the signal as an extra measure, the code for the fibers known to him and him alone. Just about finished with his coding, the felt a splat on his arm, noting the now brown fur as he peaked over his shoulder, and then to Artemis as he stuck out his tongue with a grin. While not his favorite color, he guessed they weren't really doing this with any sort of goal in mind, merely looking to splash colors around for the sake of it. With this in mind, and while the computer churned through information, the fox boy went about picking out his next weapon, spotting a nice tin of scarlet. Hearing Nefertum talk address them once more, Mairu looked up from his escapade to find the man on the opposite side of the room, asking for their ages. Unable to speak for the dragon this time, the boy went about answering the question with some decent excitement as he declared, "I'm nine, but sometimes people say I look older cause I'm tall for my age! What about you? I know it's not really nice to ask adults, cause they could be a bajillion years old, but I think it's just neat to get to be that old sometimes!" Part of the boy's excitement was legitimate enthusiasm over just getting to make some small talk, and part of it was distraction, secretly peppering the base of Artemis' tail as he talked. Once satisfied, and hearing both of their answers, the boy returned to the computer to find the encryption was done. Now he could help Artemis start making the robes themselves. Despite trying her best to hide how upset she was at the talk turning to Mercutio again, it seemed like Nefertum noticed. Artie looked up when the man came close, a bit confused, especially when he bobbed down to look her in the eye easier. It was then that the orphan realized they both had blue eyes. Eye colour of other people tended to be a mystery to the girl, so mostly she just didn't notice. After the other moved away, seemingly as if he had confirmed something, Artemis went back to her sewing. The weird interaction had mostly removed the somber feeling that she had, and getting her hands busy should surely remove the rest. With the thud of the machine all the little gadgeteer had to do was to make sure the fabric was fed in smoothly. There was no pricked fingers, no tired joins, no aching eyes. 'Pity this is too big for me to carry' The black creature looked up when Nefertum asked them about their age. Artemis supposed it was a decent question. Mairu looked young and with such foreign features as she possessed, sometimes it was difficult to tell how old she was. The orphan was pleasantly surprised however to know that her and her new friend were roughly the same age. 'Maybe that is why we get along so well?' the little dragon wondered as she turned around and held up 9 fingers. As she did so the little dragon noticed that Mairu had added another colour to her feathers. Unfortunately for their playful antics, red was a colour that tended to evoke emotions of fear and anxiety in Artemis. She flicked her tail away, out of sight, as her somber mood returned in full force. 'Focus on work' The orphan thought as she glanced at Mairu. She saw that her friend had seemingly finished his own work, and so Artie pushed a pot of black and a pot of red to the other. She scribbled down instructions on a piece of paper on how to make up a bucket full of die for them to use. "You need to put the powder in a contain filled with water. It's gotta be a good mix so that the colour remains the same in the fabric." With Mairu hopefully working on getting the dye ready for the finished product, Artemis went back to her sewing. This time she started to complete the cloaks that she was making by sewing the sleeves on. It was a more fiddly process than the other two sections were, as the little dragon had to be sure that one could actually stick their arms through the hole. She moved at a slower pace, brow furrowed in concentration. Build Progress Paint Progress

Nefertums eyes widened a bit hearing the boy's age, he then turned to the dragon to see what she was going to sign for him. Registering the number she held up to him. Something in his brain kind of short circuited and a somewhat embarrassed look as his head hung low. He didn't speak for a few seconds but he began to chuckle softly, it slowly began to get louder and louder to the point where it verged on going mad. He clenched his gut and hunched over, his laugh had now become exasperated and it look like he was on laughing gas. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA PEOPLE CAN'T LIVE TO A BJILLION!!" He'd done it he had snapped.. The stress of the past 12 years and most recent events had gotten to him and seeing the innocence of children playing had broken. He slowly recovered from his laughing fit and recuperated himself and exhaled slowly "Phew! Sorry about that.." He clears his throat. "Umm, I am 20 years old." He took notice of the cloaks that they were piecing together. He kind of squinted when looking at the thread that was connected to the computer. His curiosity go the best of him and asked him "Why is the computer connected to the threads for the cloaks?" |

It looked like Mairu's joke with Nefertum had earned him a fairly hearty response, the boy beginning to giggle, although he wasn't sure what he'd said that was so funny. He may have exaggerated by a bajillion or two, but he was sure that there had to be someone out there who could live to actually be that old. For the time being though, the fox boy merely waved off the man's apology and gave a small nod and smile when he declared he was but 20. Basically a bajillion to the young boy, but he was fairly enthusiastic when he looked down and saw Artemis lift up nine clawed fingers, the boy's hands going to his cheeks in surprise. "You're 9 too?! No wonder we're friends!" The boy declared, extending his palm for a high five from the dragon girl. It did seem to turn business very quickly though, Artemis giving the fox boy instructions on what to do with the dye and how to make it into point, even foregoing their usual sign language lesson. With a nod, the child got to work, picking up the red and black dyes as Nefertum neared the computer, Mairu approaching two buckets he'd seen. "I'm putting all the coding for the nano fibers in. Mercutio wants cloaks that won't break down or apart when someone hits him or his friends, so I'm basically tellin 'em how to fix themselves dependin' on what happens. I'll need to put the code in last though, cause whatever shape we pick is the shape it's always gonna go back to," The boy explained, fetching the buckets and taking them to a sink. Looking at the taps for a second, the boy put his fingers to his chin as he pondered something, looking over his shoulder to Artemis as he called out, "Artemis!" And then signed out to her, "Hot or cold?" Upon receiving his answer, the boy proceeded to fill the buckets with the appropriate water type, and then took a nearby wooden stick, mixing the dye and paint some. Build Progress Paint Progress

Nefertum's sudden show of amusement surprised the little dragon. She started and ended up pushing the fabric into the machine too quickly, resulting in a jam. Artemis quickly stopped the machine and grabbed a pair of scissors as well as a seam ripper. After a bit of fussing, the orphan could continue sewing the sleeves on again, although she shot the elder a slightly annoyed and concerned look. Apparently Mairu's exaggeration was hilarious, although Artie would only classify it as 'slightly amusing' herself. The orphan had already manage to do half of the cloaks by the time her friend had started to work on the dye. When he called her name, Artie looked up at him, head cocked to one side in a silent question. A small frown appeared on her face as she pondered the question. Usually she didn't work with dye or, when she did, someone else had set it up. Thinking for a moment, Artemis signed "Warm?". Realizing that Mairu might not know what that meant, she quickly grabbed her paper and pen and wrote that word on it in slightly larger than normal lettering, so that the fox didn't need to move closer to easily read it. With half of the sleeves sewn on, Artemis took a quick break at sewing to tidy up the seams. It was mainly just cutting off excess thread and trimming a bit of excess fabric. Once that was done, she put the blank, completed fabric in one pile so that Mairu could grab them to shove them into the dye. After that, the little dragon continued on at a steady pace to complete the rest. 'I wonder how we should get the red clouds on? Cut out patterns, dye them, and then sew them on?' The dark creature pondered as she worked, falling into a little world of her own. Build progress

Nefertum scratched his chin intrigued by the boy's answer, thinking to himself "Hmm a boy this young... can do that with a computer... my how kids grow now a days" He stepped towards Mairu to ask him "Is there anything I can help with? I don't like sitting around very much." If Mairu looked at him, he would be met with a look of anticipation, Nefertum's mind was racing of the list of possibilities that he would be needed for. The only he was not hoping for was anything that required him to use his quirk, if he were to use it without having eaten anything in the past few days he would surely become anemic or pass out. He turned to glance at the tiny dragon to see if she was still sewing, however rather than sewing she had written on her white board in big letters "Warm?" Nefertum shrugs slightly, not knowing why she had written that. He then returned to Mairu who was standing there with a bucket waiting to heat up the water to the appropriate temperature.
