Luckily, Hiroaki heeded his words and exited his arms, landing on the beach not far from him. Kaneda sighed, crossing his arms once making sure all the contents had exited, and sighed. Slowly walking back to the beach, he would sit once more, this time on the sand near the flame-haired boy, resting his arms on his knees. "I'll keep my promise." He would pause, staring out at the ocean, wondering the best way to word everything. "I went to Africa as an intern for a company. Shortly after our fight, my brother's health declined and I could no longer pursue my goal of becoming a hero. So, I took a job under a mentor who wanted to teach me how to change the world without using my fists. He figured seeing the election in Africa would inspire me." He would smirk, thinking back on how naive he had been. He felt like a completely different person than before he had come here. In a way, he was. "And so, we went. We had pretty good seats, but from the get-go, I could tell something was wrong. They dragged a kid off stage violently. Each candidate basically said the same thing, except for your friends, who were, being honest, a bit more down to earth. They didn't really sound like the politician types. But, Mercutio had been there with a group." He could still remember those cloaks, still haunting his dreams. "I went to the bathroom during most of the events, and funnily enough that probably saved my life. I tried to get my mentor to leave though, because as I was returning I could feel the tension in the air. My eyes had been on the stage when everything happened, so I don't know EXACTLY what happened, but there was an explosion and it wasn't from your friends." He would pause again, gritting his teeth. "When I awoke, everyone around me was dead. My body was broken, unmovable. My spine had been shattered. I thought I was going to die." He would take a deep breath, calming his nerves. He hadn't talked about this with anyone before and didn't know he would get so emotional over it. "For some reason, Mercutio decided to save me, and I'm grateful for that. But any survivors who weren't children... I can still remember the crimson..." He was shaking slightly, remembering as hundreds, if not thousands, were reduced to ashes. "I'm sorry about your friends. I wish I could have done something to stop all of this from happening, but it was out of my control." Kaneda stood up from his seated position, facing Hiroaki now. "But I've done the best I can to move forward. That's all any of us can do. Come time, I'm sure Mercutio will pay for his actions. But he helped me be able to walk again, to move, to run, to fight. I am indebted to him." He would look Hiroaki over, familiar with the feeling and look of revenge. "I'm not going to ask you to forgive what happened. I know you can't. Just like I can't forgive you for what you did to my brother. Just don't drag any of the orphans into it.Those kids have been through enough." |

Hiroaki hadn't actually really thought about what he'd do when he heard it. He was right. Entirely, one hundred percent undeniably correct. If he had a tangible face at the moment, it'd be smiling like the madman he was, and he wasn't sure if he wanted to hug Kaneda or sock him in the face. Probably the former, though, even if he didn't do either. He couldn't put himself past the fact that the last year of his life hadn't been some grand delusion he put himself in. He was over the moon and back, barely even listening as the kid went on explaining every painstaking detail of his injuries. No, he'd gotten his answer. What started as a simple conversation had devolved into a rabid hunt for a single piece of information, and now he had it. Ayano and Val were innocent. In this case, at least. The flaming pyro spread his arms and dropped himself backwards straight to the ground. "Thanks." His chest felt ten times lighter, even when it didn't weigh anything feasible. His question was answered, and why or how Mercutio did it wasn't important. Maybe he didn't even need revenge, that was how great he felt, for now at least. There were plenty of more rational reasons not to attack the guy, but he'd leave it aside for now. "That takes a weight off my chest, you know. I don't think I'll touch the orphans, unless they get in my way directly, but I have a job now too so I think I'll lay low. I'll definitely be able to focus on work better now, and I guess I'll leave the ashes be." With that said and done, he got up from the sand again, having left a large scorched spot on the middle of the beach. His clothes were still just lying there, and he walked back over to the discarded pile he'd left behind. Slowly and very carefully transitioning the flaming mass making up his physical form back to an actual physical form, he got dressed again. Once he'd finally gotten back to normal, granted he didn't get interrupted, his head turned back to the boy with him. His face was still covered in a grateful smile, as he spoke again: "Well, I think we're about done here then, right? It was nice talking, see you around buddy. You can drop by the Academy anytime- actually you probably shouldn't, you'll probably interrupt classes. Are you even staying on the island, by the way? There's not much here for a kid like you. Even if you really feel like you have a debt to Mercutio, it's probably not worth staying here." And with that, he had everything he wanted and needed, and he'd be right about done. Unless Kaneda had anything else to ask, he was thinking of getting back to other stuff. |

Comments: Fun change of pace to see a hero and a villain focus on exchanging words for a bit! Good back and forth, look forward to seein more of these pair in the future, cause they both have a decent history behind 'em! |
