The scruffy looking boy smirked in response to the small dragon's reply. "That's good, you will always be looking to push your self to new limits if you aim for the top." Gjöll encouraged, accepting the notebook and pen back from the small dragon. As she prepared herself he couldn't help but notice the sense of purpose and that was showing on her face. It was rather adorable for someone so small to have such an air of determination about them. He would keep that comment to himself as he did not want to accidentally offend her. He paused for a moment, think over the events of the night. He had originally followed the small dragon out of a morbid sense of curiosity. When he had found out she was just trying to train, why had he been so intent on helping? Maybe helping out some of the orphans adjust to their new lives would ease some of the guilt he had been feeling? He couldn't help but empathize with those put in horrible situations that were beyond their control. It reminded him too much of himself before he met Mercutio. The thought had crossed his mind of course: that helping Artemis learn to fly could one day result in her trying to leave Elysium, and the consequences that would come with it, but that was a discussion for another time. Even once she was able to fly, it would still be some time before she would have the endurance to make it the hundreds of miles to the next nearest country. He hoped that by the time she was capable of making that journey, she would be attached enough to her life here not to, but only time would tell. Gjöll exhaled deeply, rolling his right shoulder loosen it up and make sure there was no stiffness. "You ready?" he would ask one final time. Assuming she nodded in agreement he would gently pick up the small dragon, very careful as to not cause her any harm or impede her wings. He would close his eyes, feeling the wind as it pulled against his cloak. Gjöll would wait until there was a lull in the ocean wind, ensuring the small creature would not immediately be thrown off course. When wind died down again, would launch Artemis upward at a 75° angle with the majority of his strength. The gap in the wind would last several seconds, allowing the dragon to reach the peak altitude before, she would be bombarded by any gusts of cold air. The boy was surprised that the small creature made absolutely no sound as she soared through at air, even with his acute hearing he could hear nothing. Luckily he was able to see her form illuminated by the moonlight; on a more cloudy night it could be as if she disappeared without a trace. He would watch her as she glided and follow allow underneath, making sure that he could intervene if she was blown away from the sand of the beach toward lava rock the made up most of the island. The little dragon nodded to Gjoll. While her determination may be cute, in her mind there was only a serious desire to accomplish her goal. That seriousness did get tempered a bit by how carefully Ferocity tried to pick her up. The orphan that had picked the dragon up during the fight with Mercutio had also done the same. Whenever someone had to hold her they did so gingerly, as if they thought she'd break or snap in two with one wrong move. 'I know I'm small, but this is - ' Artemis started to grumbled, but her thoughts were cut off as Gjoll launched her into the air. The strength of her companion became apparent as she just held her wings stilled as she soared up into the air. She had been launched quicker and further than she'd even been before but, given how many times she had been thrown up into the air, the little creature supposed that this shouldn't be as surprising as she found it to be. As she reached the apex of the throw, the dark orphan snapped opened her wings. She hung up there for a second, getting a feel for the eddies of the air around the beach. The occasional gusts from the ocean caused the little dragon to wobble on her perch. Overall, it wasn't actually that bad. Artemis could handle it with gliding, so the next step in upping her skill would be to proceed to trying to fly in these conditions. Which is precisely what Artemis proceeded to do. She began with doing small rotations of her wings, which scooped a little bit of air and extended her glide just a little bit more. As the little dragon's confidence grew, so too did her movements. She fell faster the more she used her wings, but it still wasn't at the rate which a little creature like her would fall down to earth. Her chest began to twinge, telling her that she'd pushed the mostly mended injury far enough for the night, but the orphan promptly ignored it. Her eyes were focused onto the sky above, onto her goal. The little dragon had managed to drift quite a bit from where Gjoll had originally thrown her. The lull is sudden gusts had made the creature complacent. When the next change of wind happened, it was stronger than all of the rest and caught Artemis off guard. She let out a small meep of surprise and pain as the wind wrenched one of her wings out of sync with the other. Her hurt shoulder protested at the sudden and violent movement, causing the orphan to bite back a hiss. Artemis stopped trying to fly for the moment and kept her wings arched as she descended steadily to the ground. She eyed her landing point and flexed opened her talons. The sharp claws were the only part of the little dragon that glowed slightly in the moonlight. As soon as her feet hit the sand, Artemis gave a partial flap of her wings to try and lessen the impact. Her shoulder was now aching constantly again, much to her disgruntlement. The orphan lifted up the leg that was attached to the injured shoulder, testing the range of movement that it'd allow. She could walk, but running and flying was probably out of the question for another week. Artemis huffed, annoyed with her own body. She hadn't actually gone to the infirmary to get it checked out, but figured that resting it was all that would be asked. 'Probably not enough time waiting for it to heal' The orphan thought glumly. As Gjöll followed the small creature's flight through the night sky, everything seems to be going fairly smoothly. Artemis seemed to have little issue maintaining her altitude for longer periods. After what he assumed was her readjusting to being airborne, she began to grow more adventurous attempting to further lengthen her air time with beats of her wings. This continued for a few minutes, and they had made their way quite a bit from where they had originally begun. For a practice run everything was going rather well, that was until the wind returned with a large gust after another longer than average break. It appeared to have caught the small dragon fairly unprepared, and she slightly lost control for a few moments. She managed to regain control after a few moments, but her movements seemed to change slightly afterward. He watched her make her rapid decent and landing into the sand. Had she she been injured by the gust of wind? No, that didn't make sense. If the rapid ascension from his threw didn't cause injury there was no way ocean breeze had. It wasn't until the orphan had fully landed and began to test the range of movement of he shoulder that it dawned him. She hadn't fully recovered from the gunshot she had received during Mercutio's test. After spending week's bedridden from the injury he received on the Dark Continent, he knew how to spot someone testing for internal pain when he saw it. Come to think about it, he had never seen Artemis receive any treatment from the Goose either, had she just tried to tough it out and heal on her own all this time? "Ya know, wounds tend to heal faster when you let a professional look at them to make sure nothing is out of place."The boy joked, returning the notepad to Artemis. "Did you ever get that gunshot treated after the fight? I've seen a kid snap his arm like a twig, just from trying to fire Merc's gun, can't imagine what it must have felt like to get shot by it." "Even if it seems like everything is okay, that last thing you want is have to settle for being the second best flier, due to some irreversible injury, because you refused to let the Doc do his thing and it didn't heal properly." He warned, trying not to sound like a nagging parent. "You should avoid overexerting yourself until he gives you the all clear." "We should probably be done for the night." Gjöll suggested. He hoped his next suggestion would not hurt the orphans pride too much. "Judging by carefully your treating your shoulder, it probably hurts quite a bit. Just let me know where you want to go if you want a ride." summary

Artemis glanced up as Gjoll approached her. She appreciated the fact that he wasn't in a 'mothering' mode. The little dragon knew that the injury wasn't that serious, or at least she was certain of her belief of it. She had done what she thought the doctors would order which was to rest it as much as she could. The orphan was actually treating it quite well, until she decided to do these midnight training sessions. Feraocity's comment on how powerful Mercutio's gun was gave the little dragon pause. The thought that the Crimson 'Hero' had taken steps to ensure that he didn't even accidentally kill any of the orphans he made fight him niggled a the back of her mind. Artemis shook her head and accepted the note pad, not wanting to think about that man at the moment. "I don't think it was a real bullet. It just bounced off. But I'll get it checked out" the orphan wrote. She turned around her paper to show her companion and, if he looked closely, he would be able to see a bit of disgruntlement behind her discomfort. Gjoll bringing up that her injured shoulder might cause her long term problems made her relent, but the little dragon still didn't like the fact that someone would have to examine her. While Artemis was beginning to like Gjoll, and the thought of having a ride back to her room was appealing, she still declined. The orphan liked to think that she had dignity. Not to mention the two barely knew each other, having met only today. Perhaps in the future when the two had gotten to know each other better would the little dragon hop on Feraocity's shoulder, like pet birds are wont to do. "I have four legs and you only have four. I'm sure that I can manage." The little dragon paused in her writing, thinking for a moment. I'll make sure to give the notepad and pen to the police woman tomorrow." The orphan showed her writing to Gjoll and then closed the book. She attached the pen to the pad and then placed it gently in her mouth. Rising herself up onto her back legs, she stiffly signed "Goodnight" to her companion. The little dragon would nod her acknowledge of the others farewell before padding off back to her assigned room. Her gait was a bit uneven as Artemis tried to keep most of her weight off of her injured leg and restricted it's movement, but the casual pace wasn't too hard on the throbbing shoulder. When she arrived at her room, Artemis clambered up onto her bed. None of the rooms were made specifically for any of the orphans, hence why her room looked like everyone elses. The little dragon gently placed the notepad and attached pen onto the far end of the bed before she headed over to her pillow. It was mostly submerged under the blankets, as the creature slept on it as another mattress. Artemis nudged the covers up and climbed into bed, huffing in annoyance until she found a position that her shoulder didn't protest. The turmoil of the night had worn the orphan out enough that she drifted off into a, thankfully, dreamless sleep. [Exit] Summary

"Good." Gjöll responded to the dragon's confirmation she would have her injury looked at. He had been around Mercutio long enough to have an idea when he was showing off and when he was serious. His test for the orphan's had been a complete showing off of his powers. Still some of the orphan's had died, most due to their own hotheadedness or unfortunate circumstances, which had made him question how much the man had been holding back. Even if it had been a few weeks, a visit to the Doc to make sure everything was alright would definitely be a good idea. "Suit yourself." he responded indifferently. "While I can tell your in pain, I wasn't able to tell how much, figured I would offer." All of the orphan's had been through a lot. He wouldn't press the issue. "That's probably a good idea. Even if it's just about a notebook an a pen, you probably don't want the new sheriff asking around about you or trying to track you down." The boy joked. He waved back in response to the small dragon's parting gesture. He would watch the small creature, from the top of a hill, as she made her way back to the small cluster of buildings at the island's center. Despite trying to keep her weight off the injured shoulder she was still keeping a decent pace. By the time she disappeared from sight he was certain she would be fine making her way back on her own. Gjöll made his way back down to the sand of the beach and took a seat, reflecting over the events of the night. Elysium had always been filled with interesting people. With so many new arrivals recently he wondered how many of the he would get to know in the coming months. Only time would tell. He would stare out at the waves and let his mind drift. After a few minutes the hypnotic motion of the waves began to set in and he could feel himself growing more tired. It wasn't raining, so he had no worries about sleeping outside. As his eyes began to close, he noticed that his mind was not returning to the same thoughts of bloodshed he had been recently haunted by. Was it due to the earlier suppression of his Blood Rage or just the calming sight and sound of the sea? Maybe he should try to spending more time out here. [End Thread] summary

Earnings:
Comments: A thread of potential and reflection; a thread about going beyond one's qualms and insecurities. Dwagon, Koko/Neharo, your two characters have a really nice dynamic that I didn't expect going in. For the time she was there Chloe acted as a solid wheel to move conversation along, besides being overall hilarious. Cici just wanted to note that Elysium isn't very advanced/modern yet so there isn't a lot as far as tech goes; you play your character well, but do keep the setting in mind! Notes
