Chloe relaxed a little bit. The She leaned forward a bit and put her arms back on the table. A sigh escaped her mouth. she looked down at her coffee cup.
Well yes. but I'm glad to hear you don't think of pursuing that career path anymore
Since she relaxed, her headache came right back. She picked up her coffee and emptied the cup.
I am not that fond of heroes. While they do a lot of good,. They tend too ignore consequences
Chloe thought for a bit. Kaneda didn't seem like a bad person. maybe rash, but not bad. but right now, it didn't sound like he knew where to go next. he was broken. lost the one thing he was dreaming off.
Have you thought about police academy? It's a lot less demanding than a hero school
she watched Kaneda's reaction to that from the top of her eyes, and sat back upward while she waited for his answer.
I mean, if your arm and leg heal properly. But let us just assume it will

Kaneda took another drink of his coke, finishing it off. When she talked about heroes and how they often didn't think of the consequences that followed their actions. He would nod along politely, thinking on how she couldn't be more right. Mercutio popped up in his head as he thought about the thousands that were killed right in front of him, unbeknownst to Kaneda that that wasn't entirely his fault, but he was not without sin as well.

"Couldn't agree more." Kaneda would tell her, shifting in his seat slightly. However, on the topic of police, he would shake his head. "No, can't say I've considered looking into becoming an officer. Not really my style, I suppose. Besides, with Pro Heroes and WISH, police officers are a dying breed. If someone is using their quirk, they're supposed to call a Pro Hero for assistance. I don't like waiting around for someone to do what I'm fully capable of doing myself, ya know?" He would ask, looking at her.

"It's why I was a vigilante in the first place. I tried going to the police, but half the force was under the Yakuza payroll. I took matters into my own hands and now that district of Tatooin is Yakuza free." He would look at his hand as it was resting on the table, clenching it into a tight fist. "I was always told to be the change I wanted to see in the world. I can't do that if I'm relying on everyone else to do the work."

This comment struck a cord. Heroes and the police force were separate entities with separate functions! Besides, if you did dismantle a police force, what would you get? heroes working under wish trying to keep the peace. The only thing that really changed are an extra middle man in WISH and less rules for the peacekeepers.
But deep inside chloe knew that it was hard to defend the police. Try as she might in many places the police had a bad name. if not corrupt, which many were due to budget cuts in favor of heroes after which police officers were easier to buy, if not that, they were either underequipped, unresponsive due to regulations or power hungry. What Kaneda went through didn't surprise chloe at all. and that only made her more frustrated.
Not only that but the police were an easy scapegoat. if something went wrong, the police didn't step in. if things go right, it either wasn't mentioned or a hero took the fame. so to most people, what good was the police anyway?

Chloe got furiated thinking about this. she shook her head multiple times in her thought process. she then took another deep breath, clearing her mind. she didn't want to start this discussion. this could only end badly.
Je suis desolé. I'm sorry that happened
She put her palms on the table and pushed herself upright.
And I am glad that this part of the police force is gone. The actual good officers are better of without it
She almost glared at Kaneda while looking down at him
follow me. I will show you what happened
Chloe wanted to change the subject. She could either walk away or find something new to talk about. since it sounded like kaneda was going to stay on the island for a while longer, maybe she could talk to him some more. maybe in time convince him of her point of view. so she didn't feel like cutting this conversation short. She walked to the door and grabbed a wheelchair parked just outside. she had noticed these when she came in. then she motioned to the chair, trying to make it clear that she wanted him to take a seat
alors venez-vous? (are you coming?)

If he takes the wheelchair or not, either way chloe brings him to the room the stewardess is in. If he takes the wheelchair, she will not say anything unless he tries to ask her something. otherwise Chloe will put the wheelchair back and advice him You shouldn't push yourself too hard. other than that, she will tell him where to go when they're walking.

When they arrived at the room, chloe opened knocked. nobody seemed to answer. carefully and as silently as possible, Chloe pushed the handle down and opened the door. she peeked inside. The room was empty. the dialisys-machine was still there and the bed was clearly used recently, but nobody other than them were in the room. What happened?

Kaneda could see that he had visibly struck a nerve against Chloe, only realizing after he had already spoken. He kept quiet as she calmed down, Chloe apologizing for losing her cool for a moment. He would shake his head, putting his good arm up. "No, no... I pushed. I'm sorry. It was rude of me." He would say, keeping in mind to not bring that up around her. She decided to change the subject, asking him to follow her. Getting a wheelchair, she approached him as he was standing up, Chloe offering to lend him a hand. He froze for a moment, wondering if he should take her up on it, ultimately he did just insult her and it would be rude for him to deny her this, so he would nod, hobbling over to the wheelchair and sitting in it, placing his crutches across the small bars his arms were supposed to rest on just in case he needed them. Chloe would take them down the hall, to a new room, knocking on it before opening. However, once inside the room was empty apart from a bed and a dialysis machine. Looking up at Chloe, Kaneda would be partially confused.

"What 's going on?"

Chloe wasn't sure herself. Finding an empty room visibly surprised her. she stood in the open door for a few seconds trying to get her coffeesoaked brain to figure out what happened. she realized she must have been moved. which meant she was either deemed stable, or ... No, please don't let it be that?
bonne question. there was someone here.
She looked at the bed. in american TV-shows, there was always a file hanging from the foot-end of a patients bed. could it be that easy? No, sadly enough, that's not how it works.
I will ask
She turned the wheelchair 180 degrees and pushed it back out the door. she stopped to look left and right. on their way here they passed a nurse station. maybe someone there knew. Chloe turned back and towards a nursing station.
The light was on inside, so hopefully that meant someone was inside. She knocked on the door. not that long after, a nurse opened the door. "what can I help you with?" he asked.
Hi, I was just in room 105 and the patient there seems to have been moved? can you tell me where they were moved to?
"Maybe" He answered "What is the patients name?"
Chloe looked at him as if he just asked a very complicated science question
I don't know. She had black hair? could potentially be losing her arm right about now?
That last part seemed to have done the trick. the nurse seemed to suddenly realize who they were talking about.
"Yes! Her! She was prepped for immediate surgery. I'm sorry but you will have to wait. are you family?"
Chloe shook her head. it seemed clear that hearing about the surgery, while not shocking, had driven her mood into the ground. She Said thank you to the nurse and wheeled Kaneda out of there. while not exactly having a destination in mind. Her mind was summing up all possible outcomes
Best case scenario: it was a minor setback and she would be fine. Worst case: she would lose her whole arm and everything else from her chest to her face would end up horribly disfigured. yes, that was worse case. even death was a better option in her opinion. She was aimlessly pushing Kaneda and the wheelchair around. what was she to do next?

Chloe was obviously in distress, Kaneda opting to remain quiet as she talked to the nurse, asking a multitude of questions about someone who Kaneda could only guess had been in this room before and wasn't in the best condition. He waited patiently for her to ask her questions and the for the nurse to answer. Once finished, Chloe would begin to wheel Kaneda around rather aimlessly, the teen crossing his arm across his midsection.

"Hey, I'm sure they're okay."
He would say as they traversed the empty, white hallways, the squeak of the wheelchair piercing his ears. "It's best to be positive about things like this." Adjusting himself in his chair, he would sigh.

"So, who is this person, if I may ask? Are they important to you?"

Chloe stopped pacing around when Kaneda spoke. No she was not ok. If dialysis didn't do the job they would be anything but ok. Chloe shook her head.
Someone I met on the boat to Alanna. She was an employee on board.
Chloe sat down against the white corridor wall, and pulled up her knees. She looked at her milky white fingernails which caused all this. Then she grabbed her wrist from underneath her knees.
She got poisoned with an extremely dangerous venom. One that was meant for me
She lied about the source. He didn't need to know that. Lying was easy for Chloe as she learned to use it as an effective interrogation technique.
She's not ok. I learned how this venom works from my forensics lessons. If the dialysis was insufficient, she is in serious trouble

Poison? That didn't sit well with Kaneda. If someone on the boat here had tried to poison Chloe, then undoubtedly they must have still been on the island, right? His face scrunched as he tried to think of any possible solution, but failed to think of anything useful. Unless....

"How was this person poisoned?" He would ask, looking back to Chloe. "Maybe I... I don't know.." He looked at his own palm again, slightly sucking in air, to show Chloe what it did. "What if I sucked the poison out of her? Do you think it's too late for that?" He would ask, closing his fist, clenching it. He hated feeling helpless, especially in cases like this. He could fight his way through just about anything, but this? No, there was no way he had an answer for this. It was just something that was out of his control. Sighing, he would rest his elbow on his wheelchair, then rest his head in his palm.

"....I'm sorry I'm not much help. Especially like this."

Chloe shook her head again.
unless you happen to have an antidote quirk, there is nothing you can do. It is not your fault this happened. It is mine. I should have been more careful
Chloe deliberately ignored the question where he asked how she got poisoned. She couldn't think of a way how a venom that is spread through the bloodstream, somehow targeted the wrong person. And saying she drank it wouldn't match the injury. So basically Chloe knew she talked herself into a corner.
Chloe got up
I am going to return you to your room. Then I can take care of things
With things she mostly meant getting in contact with the family before the authorities did, and at least give her the chance to explain herself.
She walked back to the wheelchair and grabbed the handles
quelle est votre destination Monsieur Kaneda? (formal: where can I bring you?)

Chloe only shook her head at his offer, both of them understanding that there really was nothing that he could do. Kaneda frowned, wondering how to handle this. He hated being in situations in which he was powerless to help, the teen always having a habit of stretching himself too thing to help and save people. His biggest flaw was being willfully ignorant of the fact that he simply could not save everyone. He could try as much as he could, but there was only so much he could do alone. With a heavy sigh, as Chloe finished her sentence, asking him if there was anywhere she could take him, he would nod, his head slightly down.

"You can take me back to my room. Room 146. Here on the first floor." He would say, giving her the directions back to where he could rest. He was somber and silent after he gave her directions, reflecting on the situation at hand, and then the one he had witnessed before. His mind thought back to the Election in Africa, the giant wave of light he saw before being flown through the air. All the people who had died, everyone who was gone before they even had the chance to react. Seeing it once more when that man killed everyone who was a witness, the raw, unbelievable power. Kaneda didn't believe anything on that scale existed, but had proven himself wrong. He looked at his usable arm and clenched his fist in anger. Why wasn't he strong enough? Could he have even managed to save anyone against that power anyways? His quirk helped him absorb things but energy like that was different. If he absorbed pure energy, there was a good chance he would simply explode, acting as a human bomb. That would only injure more. He was powerless.

Chloe nodded when he said the number. it seemed that Kaneda was deep in thought. She felt guilty. it was because of her. because she made him worry about that girl. This wasn't fair to him. Chloe started scolding herself for hurting even more people. if the steward wasn't enough today, you had to emotionally hurt this guy as well? She patted him on the shoulder, carefully to make sure her nails didn't go anywhere near his skin.
Hey, ca va? are you ok?
it was weird asking that to him, given how shitty she was feeling right now. the room wasn't that far. Chloe pushed open the door with her back and wheeled Kaneda backwards into the room, parking the wheelchair next to the bed. she hunkered down in front of him getting at eye height
Do not feel too bad about what I said, ok? je suis responsible. it is my fault this happened and my fault alone. I am sorry for bringing you into this
She put her hands on her knees and pushed herself straight.
we will meet again
that sounded very ominous especially with how he looked down at him while saying it. Chloe didn't realize that though. She took a small piece of paper containing her name and mobile number from her handbag and put it on the bedside table.
This is for when they release you. you can let me know
With that said she walked to the door and waved at Kaneda before closing it behind her
Au revoir (cya)
After that, she left the hospital. she couldn't stay there with the guilt of maybe having killed someone. it was time to clear her head, and maybe get some sleep. if she could manage to get that after what happened today.

Earnings:

  • Kaneda Ikezi - 20 EXP, 1700 cash
  • Chloe Bianchette - 16 EXP, 1400 cash
    No deductions implemented.

Comments: All in all, a nice meeting in the cafeteria between a cop and a (legally) reformed vigilante. A very clean and balanced dialogue, through and through, if some posts were short to read.

Some comments for the both of you.

Justice - I really liked Kaneda's inflections on the events prior; I see a man who understands his logic and justifies it, considering his experiences with things like the law, et al. His thoughts and actions are very concise and easy to read over, albeit I noticed your setting descriptions could be somewhat dry.
Ciary - Good. I do suggest two things, however. First of all, the content in Chloe's posts were good, but they are also. In the future, please use quotation ("") marks for speech, and to end speech with periods when necessary. Both of those things detracted from the flow of your writing, unfortunately. That aside, however, Chloe is a fascinating officer who clearly cares about her job and the civilians she's sent to protect, so I look forward to seeing how she implements her policy! ^^

Comments aside, please do enjoy the spoils!
