You are all in a maze of mirrors and windows. You see each other, but by fighting towards them you'd shatter through glass, cutting yourself up.

Gabrielle stood in a hall of mirrors contemplating and lamenting the events that had brought her to this point. After her father's death she had been kidnapped and taken to a strange island with many other people roughly her own age. Soon after they had all been attacked by a man she recognized as the one who'd killed everybody at the African Elections and somehow Gabrielle had survived, becoming one of only a few dozen to have done so. Now here she was in a maze of mirrors where she was supposed to kill or be killed. It had truly been the most confusing and frightening couple of days that Gabrielle had ever had.

"I'm sorry, but I have to survive this. Forgive me."

Gabrielle looked straight ahead at the girl that she was supposed to kill. She probably wouldn't be able to understand what Gabrielle had just said as she looked to be from some Asian country; Japanese, Gabrielle thought. She herself only spoke French and a little bit of English. Gabrielle had already come to terms with what was happening to her, not that she understood why it was happening however. All that mattered to her was that she escape this place and return to her brother and sister in Paris.

She stepped forward and began trying to navigate her way towards the girl, forming an icy, round shield larger than her head on her left forearm. Gabrielle had never so much as hit anybody and she hoped that this girl wasn't a fighter. She couldn't tell what her opponent's quirk was, but thought the girl looked rather fish-like. Frozen streaks of tears staining her cheeks a slightly lighter shade of blue, Gabrielle navigated her way through the maze, holding her shield up in front of her in case she was suddenly attacked. The mirrors made it very difficult to navigate and Gabrielle could only hope she was going the right way while simultaneously hoping she wasn't at all.

WHY FATHER, WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME?!

Samori woke up, the phrase dancing and fluttering around her head, as she felt like an amnesiac for a few minutes. Samori laying upon on her knees, sitting down on her knees. Slowly beginning to question everything, why she was here, how she was here, where was she, It was a complete blur to her. The last thing she remember was being taken away by the 'Crimson Man' along with her father being dead. Her father being evaporated to dust, due to the red, bloody filled air. Her nose still having a grasp of the dead, she wanted to puke, but she couldn't, her body wanted to expel everything that happened that day. The day was a curse to her, the curse of a lifetime of hell.

Through the thought of that day. Everything hit, her feelings, the death of her father to her, the rotten curse that was put upon her innocent mother. She was now but a sad child, a devastated one at that. Her eyes bawling like an madman, she was in extreme grief, to the point where she looked dead on the inside. Seeing as how no one was able to watch over her, what was she gonna do now? What was her plans? What was her motive? What was her DRIVE!? Samori couldn't be her like her father, or like her mother, while sure, she was like them, she wasn't them, sure she had confident, but without people supporting her, she felt as if she was crumbling apart. The drastic measure of her overthinking, slowly lead her back to the original question

WHY FATHER?

She was broken, a mess, a broken toy due to what happened at the Africa attack. Her tears continued to pour out of her soul, the breakage of her heart was uncontrollable, Until she had a flashback. It rolled onto her mind like a old 30's vintage like movie effect.

The Flashback

It was back in her childhood, her father done with a match, bruised and tattered. Samori at the time, was a young child, her mother still alive but was diagnosed with the disease she died too which was 'Rock Disease'. The disease already working away at her fin, tiny cracks of it going at her mother's lower left fin. Her mother took Samori over to her father, Her mother using her wheelchair she used to get around when going on land. Her father despite being destroyed and tattered to pieces, took hold of her, raising her up in the air even when wounded. Her father spoke to her, in a jolly tone as he usually did.

"Samori know this! When your grown up and when your big, tall and strong, TAKE HOLD OF YOUR WORLD, DON'T LET YOUR WORLD CONTROL YOU, TAKE CONTROL OF THE WORLD, DON'T FOLLOW YOUR MOTHER OR ME, BUT GO YOUR OWN PATH! STAND TALL, RAISE YOUR FIST AND BE PROUD!"

The old yet buff father of Samori joyously laughing away giving a full hearty laugh before the memory of her dissolved back into her memory, as she remembered all of the good times she had.

The Present

Samori slowly clicked back into her original self, the click in her brain wasn't a fast click, but was it was a click to get her back going on her feet. The click itself was started because of her father, known as the will to drive forth. She wanted to push, no, She HAD to PUSH FORWARD In the honor of her mother and father, she took on the drive to push forward, quickly rubbing the tears off her face. Not because she had to or wanted to forced herself. She didn't have plans on being her father or her mother, she had plans on being HERSELF. All she had was her memories of her family and her will, though there was barely anything to drive forward, but even if so she used what was left to push her being, HER SOUL! she used it to carry on what she had, to tell the story of her later on in life, because THERE WAS NO FUCKING WAY SHE WANTED DIE! IF SHE WANTED TO GO OUT SHE WOULD DO IT WITH A BANG. NO! A EXPLOSION. NOT EVEN A SIMPLE A EXPLOSION! A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION! Samori stood up with a new resolution, a different MOTTO, a different WILL. It was new and it was fierce as ever! She may just be a simple mermaid, but she had different plans than just simple plans on what to do with her life.

Samori heard the girl speak, the girl's voice bounced off of all the mirrors, The girl spoke in French "I'm sorry, but I have to survive this. Forgive me." Samori took those words even though she may not know what she said, the words bouncing through the maze of mirrors. Samori spoke back to the girl "I wish you the best of luck, may the best person win" Samori spoke confidently to the girl speaking in Japanese. Samori seeing the girl's body through the maze, it was small cute yet lovable with a french appearance. Looking at the girl she made a ice shield, a small 'tch' Samori gave out, standing at her spot, taking a stance like her father, keeping a low center of gravity, and being on guard for whatever came.

Gabrielle heard the girl say something in her own tongue but of course could not know for sure what had been said. However from the look on the girl's face she thought it must be something similar to what she herself had said just before. Neither of them were here because they wanted to be. They'd both lost somebody they loved and they both had a reason to push on, which is why Gabrielle found it so horrible that they had to fight one another. If it were possible Gabrielle would have liked to team up with the girl to try and find a way out, but even if she had a way to communicate she doubted that such actions would yield fruit. More likely they'd both end up dead and dying was the last thing Gabrielle intended on doing.

She walked slowly through the maze of mirrors, holding her shield in front of her in anticipation for a sudden attack. The shield itself was big enough to defend from Gabrielle's chin all the way to her midriff and its ice was engraved with a lotus design that made it look as though a flower had bloomed from her arm. Gabrielle had spent a lot of time making ice sculptures for her siblings whenever she'd babysit them and now creating such designs in her ice felt more natural than just making a blank sheet. Thinking about the little ones created a lump in Gabrielle's throat. What were they doing now? Did they know that their father was dead? Did they think that Gabrielle was dead too?

Gabrielle jumped a few times in surprise, seeing her opponent's reflection and thinking it was really her. Considering this she thought she must be getting close to the girl. What was going to happen once they met one another Gabrielle didn't wish to think about. Looking at her more closely Gabrielle thought that she couldn't have been that much older than herself, maybe a few years at most. Suddenly Gabrielle stopped walking and looked up ahead, finally having found her opponent.

The girl was looking the other direction, presumably at Gabrielle's reflection. This was her chance! If she could get the jump on the girl then she might be able to finish the fight before she even realized Gabrielle was upon her. Slowly, without changing her expression so that the girl wouldn't be able to tell from Gabrielle's reflection that she was found, she crept forward until she was right upon the girl. Suddenly Gabrielle raised her shield into the air to try and bash the back of the girl's skull and immediately froze in place.

What was she doing? Was she seriously about to kill this girl? How could she have even thought of doing something so horrible? The faces of her father, brother, and sister flashed in Gabrielle's mind, all looking horrified and disgusted. She was doing this for them! And yet she couldn't will her arm to swing down on the defenseless Japanese girl. She knew that she had to do it now or else she'd turn around and attack, but Gabrielle just couldn't do it. How could she? Not even a week ago she'd come home from a normal day at school to celebrate her thirteenth birthday. She was just a normal girl. Never would she have thought she'd be forced into a death match with someone she'd never even met before. The smiling faces of her family and close friends wishing her a happy birthday seemed like a lifetime ago now. With this image of her brother and sister burned into her mind, Gabrielle swore.

"Merde!"

She had to live for their sakes, even if it meant sacrificing a part of herself to do it. And right now that meant taking out the girl in front of her. Fresh tears streaming from her eyes, Gabrielle swung her left forearm down as hard as she could, trying to bash Samori's head in from behind. Hopefully her hesitation hadn't cost her the element of surprise.

Samori in a lower stance prepared for what was next, Samori's brain focused everything purely on her eyesight and mental strength trying to figure what the hell this arena was. An arena of mirrors, she found it variously complex and confusing, yet she pushed on through. Samori seeing the girl push up she knew something was up. She hated this, she wanted to go home, yet there was no home, she had no place to go back and stay, but yet she wanted to get up and out of here, she hated this place, as if this was a confinement cell to her, feeling like a prisoner. As if she was stuck in a cell, wearing a orange jumpsuit labelled with the tag with a badge saying "Prisoner of Fate XXXX". She wanted to cry, but she didn't, it was a mix between both, she'd wanted to desperately cry, while she had a mighty heart, no simple soul could handle the death of their father, or at least not Samori, and than being forced to do combat. Samori didn't know why but she couldn't hate the man who did this to her father, not due to the unreasonable fact of the death of her father, or what caused her to become this state but because she wanted to have some faith, hoping it was a mix-up or just something that was accidental, while she knew it wasn't she just hoped it was.

Crumbling back into her sad state, her brain slowly bringing her back into that sad state. Samori continued to think over, trying not to cry and trying to bring herself back, while her enemy slowly crept'd up on her. Trying to fix bring herself back.

"I can't cry, I can't cry, I can't cry-"

She continued thinking this, Samori taking in deep breathes and deep exhales; she slowly conquered it, while taking those deep breathes. Samori looked to the mirrors, seeing as how she heard some bonks against the wall she forced herself to focus on the battle. To make her focus, she broke the mirror next to her, full on slamming her fist into it, making sure she got her adrenaline pumping. her brain pumping nerves to her head, giving off the fight or flight signals to her head, she forced herself to fight, due to what it looked like there was no exit. "Merde!" With that she felt a small amount of gust, coming from the shield that almost slammed against her head along with Gabrielle cussing. Samori checking behind herself from hearing the girl speak, along with the gust of air that flew past the shield as she brought it down

Samori would pivot around as the girl just barely begin to swing downwards against Samori's head, due to her lower stance she had more time to put up both hands, stopping the shield from possibly cracking open her skull. The girl putting her weight on her shield. Samori letting the shield go down as she jumped backwards, the force on the shield continuing downwards as the girl swung down the side of the shield. Jumping back, Samori would force herself to be calm, giving deep stable inhales and exhales, focusing on the battle.

Gabrielle felt her shield bash against something but was dismayed to find that Samori had been able to deflect it. Now that she'd lost the element of surprise she wasn't sure whether or not she'd be able to win, but of course that wasn't going to stop her. She just hoped that, like herself, her opponent wasn't an experienced fighter.

After striking Samori's hands Gabrielle's shield arm was pushed down towards the ground and she backed up, seeing the mermaid do the same. She still wasn't exactly sure what her opponent's quirk was and she hoped it was just an X-Form of some kind and that there weren't going to be any surprises coming her way. Gabrielle stared Samori down, trying not to let the fear and uncertainty show on her face as she considered her next move. It seemed like the fish girl was wary of attacking and was still trying to recover from blocking the initial attack.

If she won't come then I will.

Taking the initiative once more Gabrielle stepped forward to close the distance again. She raised her shield up in front of her, blocking line of sight to her opponent with its large round shape. Crouching low so that her shield covered her movements as much as possible Gabrielle suddenly pushed it toward Samori, acting like she was going for another bash before feinting and lowering her shield. She jabbed her arm toward Samori's chest, something sharp and gleaming in her hand.

While hiding herself behind her shield Gabrielle had crafted a dagger of ice which she now used to stab towards her opponent's sternum. She remembered reading about old history where soldiers who would conceal their movements with shields before striking to catch their opponent off guard and tried to incorporate this tactic in her own fight. Hopefully it worked and Samori wouldn't be expecting Gabrielle to have a weapon.

JAPAN'S GREATEST WARDEN
Samori jumping back from the young lady, Samori was glad that she could finally see her opponent for once. As if Samori was draining her from her stealth. Hoping she could win, seeing how she had a shield, this fight wasn't on her side at the moment. It felt like this battle was between two animals in a fight of ferocity and the will to live. Samori's adrenaline rushing in and around her veins as if it was blood as of currently.

The girl staring her down was normal as if Samori was a long-time veteran of war, or at least it simply felt like, the gaze of the young girl was as if it was a simple hard gaze, not piercing her but merely poking at her. The girl shortly after begin to rush down Samori, trying to close down the distance. The rate of which Samori recovered from the attack, felt fast when it came to the girl. Even if so the girl continued forward, covering most of her body- The girl's stance felt flimsy, weak and improper to an extent. Due to that, the girl's ability to cover her movements were weak. From that she Samori she her hand moving around as if she was grabbing something...

Samori came down to the conclusion, from the weight of the shoulder, and realizing that there was something dangerous behind the shield. Like any other thing- everything needed a pair, a shield and and a sword, a Hulkmania fan with his Macho get-up, a clown with his balloons. A WWE wrestler with his steel chair to do amazing over head slams against another man.

The girl tried to feint out Samori, the feint didn't work. It was as if it wasn't even meant to be feint as if she was trying to fix her posture, from what Samori saw, she saw a dagger. The girl once close enough finally revealed, the ice dagger. Samori quickly slid past the dagger, the dagger going past the right side of her neck (left from Gabrielle's side). The dagger hitting the side of the neck and merely tearing off some skin. Samori going to the opposite side of the girl's shield. Samori quickly charged up her fist, clenching her fist as much as she could, before thrusting her fist into the girl's jaw. Lining up the angles and speed for the fist so it had a possibility to hit her jaw.

Gabrielle's dagger barely nicked the girl's neck as she reacted faster than expected. It seemed like her opponent actually had experience fighting and Gabrielle looked to see her dodge past her outstretched arm, bringing her fist up to punch her out. No! If she was knocked out here then Gabrielle would surely be waking up at the pearly gates. Or perhaps her conviction to kill this girl had already earned her a ticket to Hell. Either way, she wasn't willing to let either happen. Not while she could still put up a fight.

The girl was definitely faster than Gabrielle and she didn't think she'd have time to bring her shield arm all the way around to block the incoming attack and she didn't think she'd be able to dodge either since she'd committed fully to her stab. Just before the girl's fist connected Gabrielle formed a layer of ice across her right cheek and chin, creating a hard defense to block the punch. Unfortunately she hadn't been able to fully focus and the shield wasn't as strong as the one on her arm, but it was at least strong enough to keep her from being knocked out.

A second later her opponent's fist connected and the layer of ice shattered as Gabrielle was knocked sideways. Seeing stars but still conscious, she righted herself and caught herself from falling, shifting her feet to once again face her opponent head on. She breathed a heavy sigh as she ignored the stinging in her chin, a visible haze emerging from her mouth as if she were in very cold weather. She held her shield up in front of her bracing it as she stood still, staring again at the mermaid.

Suddenly, with a burst of speed that might even be faster than her nimble opponent, Gabrielle stepped forward and began sliding. She'd created thin shields of ice on the soles of her feet that allowed her to slide quickly across the ground and was using them to ram her flowery shield right into her opponent. Because the ice was so thin and spread on the bottoms of her feet Gabrielle doubted the girl would notice her trickery this time around. Upon reaching the mermaid Gabrielle pushed out with her shield arm to bash the girl's chest and hopefully knock her back into one of the room's many large mirrors.

Samori surprised she didn't get her knocked out by her punch, and missed what she wanted. She gave out a loud

"Tch."

Samori missed her mark. She wanted a smooth and quick punch, but it wasn't as good as she wanted. Samori's mind purely focused on the time. Samori didn't knock the girl out merely just pummeled her to almost the ground. Well, almost- The connected fist felt cold, and frosty from the hit. Putting the pieces together she figured things about the girl. This match was destined to be a tough one, and was gonna do everything in her possibility to win.

The girl tried to keep up her balance, from the looks of it. The visible haze coming from the girls mouth even confirmed it more. The girl stumbled around, catching herself from the knock-back from the punch. Samori looking at her opponent, she shaking off the punch of Samori's fist. She shot off, holding her shield in front of her

Shooting off like a pesky mosquito, The girl going as fast as Samori when sliding, if not even a bit faster than Samori. Forced to deal with this, The girl charged rushing at Samori, the girl laying down ice as she slid around. To deal with this Samori, would try to dodge, getting her foot caught due to the, trying to jump to the right (left from gabrielle’s perspective) her left foot would get caught from the weak ice. Samori catching herself the girl rammed her shield into the Samori’s left shoulder. The shield bash was miniscule, leaving her with a rough bruising tgh, along with the rough bash from the mirror behind her. leaving a crack in the mirror, though the mirror staying place until Samori pushed off the mirror, moving the girl’s shield Samori pushed off the cracked mirror, the mirror falling down on both of them, though she continued to push forward, reading both of her fists cocking them both back before unloading a fury of punches, as if she was shooting off bullets with her hands, along with the gust of wind coming from each punch. Having a decent angle on her with the exception of the falling mirror and the burst of speed from pushing of the glass, the kick, breaking off the ice that was under Samori’s footwear. Samori aiming for her chest and head all together.

Gabrielle felt a rush as her bash struck true and the girl was knocked back into a tall mirror, sending cracks all across it and threatening to break it entirely. Indeed, that's exactly what happened as the girl then pushed off the mirror and shattered it completely, shards of glass coming down on top of the both of them. Gabrielle tried to raise her shield above her to cover but saw that her opponent had decided to completely ignore the falling shards and instead was coming straight for her.

She's lost it!

Like an animal chased into a corner the girl had finally lashed out and was coming to try and finish Gabrielle off. She considered trying to dodge the incoming blows but decided on a better plan. If the girl wanted to go on an all-out offensive then Gabrielle would punish her for it. The French girl's blue skin would begin to appear translucent and glossy as she focused the water in her body to create a protective layer across herself completely. The ice spread out across her skin and assimilated with the bits already on her feet to completely encase Gabrielle in a hard, protective layer. She wouldn't be able to skate around anymore but in this situation she didn't think she'd need to.

The Japanese girl's blow reached her just as the shards of glass from the mirror did and Gabrielle stood fast against both. The falling glass didn't even come close to cutting through her icy carapace and she hardly moved as her opponent leashed a flurry of blows into her chest and face. In fact the one feeling the pain would likely be the mermaid as she'd just punched an icy wall numerous times, not to mention the fact that she'd been defenseless against the broken glass as well.

Not wanting to give her opponent a chance to recover, Gabrielle took the knife still clutched in her right hand and slashed horizontally, trying to cut her neck open while she was hopefully still reeling from the pain of her own attack and the cuts she'd likely already sustained from the mirror.

Comments:
Tough battle between two tough young ladies. Honestly, I felt for the two, especially since I could tell Gabrielle really didn't want to fight. Samori seemed a bit more calm about it, but there was a feeling of not wanting to as well. The two obviously had to do whatever it takes and that was exactly the case. One thing I admired was their use of their environment, it is why Gabrielle came out with the win in the end. Sadly, Samori ended the fight with a slit throat, but the good doctors at Alana are there to mend ya up. So, be joyful, you both survive.
