The Jewel of Elysium: Alana Island By far the largest and most notable island of the country, Alana is host to the bulk of Elysium’s population and boasts various districts on its shores. Right at the island’s centre is the flourishing Market District. It is here where most activity can be found on a daily basis, and all commerce for the country flows. The main square has a permanent set-up of quaint stalls for residents to sell their wares or conduct trade. Around the perimeter of this square, small businesses of brick and mortar can be found; a reminder of what dedication and success can bring to those who succeed in the market. The larger establishment of this humble area is the Police Department; its very presence spreading an atmosphere of order and protection. Housing for Elysium’s esteemed citizens can be found primarily clustered in the Market District, behind or adjacent to the Police Department. Larger houses and apartment buildings, however, are intermingled within the Business District.
Encircling the Market District are where further solid buildings can be found, and this forms a section all its own; the Business District. Multiple-storey constructs are built here, with all-but two or three establishments being occupied and operated as businesses. On the northern row of this district, one can find the newly rebuilt Hospital where residents of Elysium receive high-quality yet free healthcare, provided by their protectors. Just outside of the western row, one can find the state-of-the-art Alternative Order Academy, formerly the Yoshizawa Correctional Facility. This school spans quite a large amount of area, and is the first building that one will see when making their way from the Dock and Shippingyard on the western edge of Alana.
Way out on the western coast of Alana is the Shipyard and Dock area. Due to the island not currently having agricultural possibility, most goods are imported from friendly territories around the world, and this is accomplished with a small yet dedicated and sturdy fleet of ships. The southern section of the Docks is dubbed The Imports, and this is where most activity takes place; with Elysium’s ships coming and going almost constantly to keep its people in comfortable supply. The northern section of the Docks is dubbed The Exports, where citizens can take up the trade of fishing the rich oceans around them in order to help provide for the island, and exporting any surplus.
To the north-east, a small, lush garden of land has been tended and a unique building has been established. Known to the citizens as Spectral Artworks, this building is where the island’s namesake practises her artistry. Paintings made here are occasionally found for sale in the Markets, but otherwise, this lonely haven of creativity is simply that; where one of the Yonkos hones her craft. Near the south-east coast, a large mansion looks nothing like any of the other buildings on Alana. Originally built in Canada, this luxurious home was moved from its very foundations and brought to this island to become the residence of those orphaned from the African Election tragedy. The north-western sands are currently under restricted access as members of Adrestia and citizens of agricultural background begin the process to convert this sizeable expanse into farming lands for the whole country. Connecting all areas of Alana is a network of humble roads; primarily mud-brick in construction, save for the central portion of the island where concrete and other such materials have been used to pave out the Market Square and all adjoining streets. Vehicles at this point in time are either extremely rare, or non-existent. The next step after cultivating the lands of the north-west, however, will be expanding the Business District further east for the purposes of building larger construction facilities.
