It was a little trip from where they were initially to their hidden bunker to where there was apparently a helicopter for them to quickly get around in. Fortunately for Denali, she didn't have a fear of heights or airplanes, though this would be her first time in a helicopter so she was a bit wary and self-conscious about strapping herself in for the sake of safety.

She waved awkwardly at their pilot, wondering if the guy was a servant here or just the designated transporter for the office?

She was quiet as they rode through the air, listening in to the instruction of Zeyada as she laid out the plans for how they were going to deal with the aftereffects of the earthquake. And with everyone having been given their roles, Denali was tasked with escorting those in need to an energy safe house made by Zeyada. It seemed a simple enough task, and with her magnitude of armor and shields would hopefully keep people from getting injured by any falling debris of aftershocks that came their way.

"You can leave it to me." She said dutifully as she accepted her role as essentially a roaming shield for the people.

Upon stating those words they had already hovered over the designated area where they were going to be dropped off. And with Yuuto jostling her shoulder she couldn't help but laugh a little at how calm and easygoing they were going for this mission. "You don't have to worry about me." She smirked back at him, trying to match his optimistic grin as she looked outside.

She jumped the short distance down as she saw her comrades heading away to take care of their duties, while her body began to freeze an armor over herself to prepare for the hard day's work. "Let's get to it." She said to Zeyada, her smile hidden by her armor as she flexed her arms.

She couldn't keep track of time exactly, only knowing that as the sunlight began to fade through the day that her long hours of escorting and directing people to their makeshift safehouse was slowly coming to an end. An exhausting end, where even her conditioned body was asking her to take a break, and yet she had no choice but to continue and push herself further for the sake of ensuring that the people were in the safest position from possible aftershocks and the structural damage.

All in all, however, having her first taste of official heroic work was... enlightening and thrilling all the same.

The coming days after that disaster was never quite the same. Each day with a different mentor and learning something new about their profession and how she could try and incorporate her own skills to match what was needed. First was Yuuto, who despite his charming ways, intentional or not, showed how to reinforce structures long enough to ensure that people could escape from them. Simply freezing patches together as she skated along would lengthen the time for people to get out, and in turn, increase the rate of survival.

Fuuta mentored her of environmental awareness, an aspect that took her some time to get completely. Especially since she was more likely to brute force her way through the environment than to find subtle pathways that might've been better. Or in her case, to help people before they got too injured. Interestingly enough, she was practicing a new technique where her armor grew spikes atop of them, not necessarily for damage but much like the sensitive hairs on animals that received stimuli to help her track and find people in need. It was rudimentary and she didn't have quite the hold on it, but she did want to learn how she could use it to be more aware.

Lastly, her sessions with Zeyada were enlightening in a different way. But also scary, never before had she ever had to move around while blind or to explore somewhere without being able to hear, and the odd sensation of being numb... it made her quirk nearly impossible to manage. At least at first, but having her senses taken away, shifted, and moved around made the girl have to rely on the others in different ways while she also combined them with her quirk. If she were blinded, her body began to freeze small spikes to sense changes around her. If she were deaf she practiced trying to feel vibrations in the air with the subtle changes on her skin, and if she couldn't feel... she listened to the cracks and shifts in her armor while looking at what she was doing and making sure that her steps and grips were all still acting as they were.

Perhaps treating her body more complete rather than as separate senses was the real goal of the exercises...

Upon her last night of training, she had been looking forward to their group meal. After all, she was a big eater, and her appetite only grew with all the training and exercises that came together. And of course, it was fun to talk and converse with all of the members together. If their time was only a week, it was still a joyous occasion, and she only felt a bit melancholy that their time would be coming to an end so soon.

Though as she wandered to their usual main room she couldn't find them. But maybe they were just doing personal training or had other business to attend to. So she wandered around a bit more, hoping to hear the footsteps or slithering of the other members so she could find out where they were all gathered. And yet she couldn't find them anywhere on the base.

The loneliness was... chilling, to say the least. And she wasn't sure if maybe she had just missed them all or if maybe they had gone off somewhere without telling her. As she continued to walk through the base she called out hoping to get a response. "Hey, anyone around!? It's time for dinner, isn't it!?" Still thinking about food, but it would hopefully illicit some kind of response.

As the intern wandered around the base, she would have no luck finding any of the Office members. At least… not inside the building.

There were a few signs that might lead her to the group gathered outside in the darkness. Flickering lanterns over in the rear-most field. The sounds of distant voices. And the smells of a freshly prepared meal. Some of the windows in the main base were left open, in the hopes of guiding Denali to the members’ position without making all too obvious.

When the girl would arrive to the place where her senses led her, she would be surprised to see… quite the beautiful sight. Just over the crest of the hill towards the rear of the base, hundreds of lanterns were flickering with light. Some were hung carefully from the few trees on each side of the hill, and others were set in the grass with a few stones keeping them secured. In spite of the crisp winter month in which Sapporo was enveloped, there was a pocket of welcoming heat surrounding the top members of Heikin where they were gathered on a brightly woven picnic blanket. Out here in the middle nowhere, quite a few miles from the city of Sapporo itself, the sky was a brilliant sheet of velvety blackness interspersed with glittering bursts of light. A full moon hung low in the sky, framed perfectly by the trees on each side. It was almost as if somebody had painted the whole scene before the intern when she arrived.

Everything in that moment was perfectly still.

Everything in that moment seemed to align.

But most of all, everything in that moment harkened to the beauty of their world.

“Nice of you to join us!” Yuuto called from his position on the blanket, his trademark grin illuminated softly in the light of the lanterns and stars. The others turned and looked at Denali too, wearing varying degrees of merriment and peace in their expressions.

When the girl joined them all on the blanket, she would find a huge plethora of cooked food. A roasted chicken was still steaming in the centre, basted in all sorts of herbs for flavour. Rice and potatoes were in separate dishes to accompany it. Three or four open Bento boxes presented little sandwiches or sushi rolls, filled with everything from vegetables to fish. It was a large amount of food, with an air of it all being home-cooked. “It is a tradition of ours to truly welcome new members to our ranks within the arms of Mother Nature.” Zeyada spoke with a smile, as calm and composed as ever.

“We felt that it would be a nice end to your stay with us to be properly inducted and included as part of the family.” She continued softly, turning her head to look at Denali. In spite of only a week having passed, it had felt a lot longer in so many ways. They had all bonded with their individual training and shared experiences. “Even if your path may take you elsewhere, you will always be welcome with us. A new balance has been struck in the space of five days.” Always the enigmatic one, wasn’t she?

Fuuta softly rolled his serpentine tongue, looking to the intern with a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “What she means to say is that the upset we’ve felt here for over a year has been overcome. We have lacked Internships from any school in that time, and members of this Office have slowly left us.” He explained, feeling that it was only right to do so now. “Momo-sama was beginning to worry that it was her; that she was upsetting the balance. She took over the Office two years ago, so the decline understandably seemed to be something which she caused.” While he was talking about this, the faintest of blushes was seen touching Zeyada’s cheeks, with her head lowered. She was… embarrassed?!

“I-I… just wanted to be doing my predecessor justice.” She murmured shyly, pressing her fingers together in her lap repeatedly. This action and manner of speaking made Yuuto burst into laughter, moving to throw his arm around the Office leader in a friendly gesture. Energy deflected his gesture, however, but he was still chuckling to himself even as he was almost flung onto his back. “You’ve been doing great! Denali’s a testament to that now, right?” He assured her, and then looked to the Intern for some input on the matter.

Nevertheless, the Office proceeded to enjoy a mirthful meal together, a huge burden lifted from the Office leader like it had previously been a dark cloud. She no longer seemed as restrained, and while still graceful, she started to let loose a little bit.

Funnily enough, the following week saw a spike in members for the Sapporo Branch. Hearing of the internship that had been completed there, faith in Zeyada’s leadership sky-rocketed. While it pleased the young woman greatly, she talked weakly of there needing to be a balance all the same.

Unsurprising, really.

Wandering around the mansion was... worrying at first. It was ominous to find no hint or idea as to where people might've been, but her worries were abated as the smell of food began to lead her over to the correct destination.

As she moved to go outside she paused to look at the grand landscape and the decorative design put into the picnic. She felt a wave of emotions blow over her like a winter wind as she walked over to her mentors, feeling at a loss for words for how to describe the brilliant scenery. She sat beside Zeyada as her eyes looked at the immense variety of foods that she wanted to eat.

"This is beautiful, it must've taken awhile to prepare all this." She licked her lips as she had to fight her own hunger to keep herself from just biting into the first thing that she saw.

But her desire for food was abated by the comforting and warm words that came from Zeyada. A warmth that she was accepted into the close-knit family that was the Heikin office, and that they were going to embrace her much like mother nature would. "I'm honored that you think of me so highly and that... you've accepted me so." Considering the state of her own family right now, having a different type of familial relationship was a relief for her.

It seemed the issue was deeper than just that though, as Fuuta clarified that it was a joyful experience since she joined. And that they were worried about slowly losing more and more members while others had seemingly not been interested in joining. A fact that Zeyada seemed embarrassed about and wanted to redeem for her predecessor. "Well if it's any consolation I've enjoyed a lot of what you taught me. And I can go spreading the word around if you're worried about being overshadowed." She could understand if maybe some people wanted to do other things and join other offices but every office had a place and purpose.

She laughed alongside Yuuto as he pointed to her as a sign that Zeyada was doing quite well with her success. "Exactly, if I ever hit it big and become outrageously famous I'll be sure to give credit where credit is due." She began to reach for the food on the picnic. "Now let's enjoy this meal while we still can, we can't let all this food go to waste after all..."

She licked her lips as she began to feast on the buffet presented to her all the while enjoying conversation and stories with the other members. It was nice to know that it wouldn't be long before she had to stand in her own right as a hero.

But for now, she'd just focus on maintaining a balance. Both as a student, a hero, and a person. Perhaps that was the greatest lesson she could've been taught while she stayed at the scenic Heikin base.

As well as the nice send-off meal that the Office prepared, they also pitched in and got Denali a beautiful set of meditation beads. They are all lapis lazuli jewels, which feel cool to the touch. Whenever she uses them with meditation, or even in battle, they provide her with perfect clarity of mind. As such, she is able to break her Limit to -3 without experiencing the effects of her Limit Break.

Comments:

Grade: A-

"I was immensely impressed with Denali's willingness to face any challenge without hesitation, in spite of how fast-paced her first day with us turned out to be. She kept a very level head in disaster situations, and she was open to new training methods which will help her progress wherever she goes in the future. As mentioned to her while she was still with us, I would be honoured to have her return to Heikin when she graduates U.A. Academy."

Denali receives a formal offer letter from Heikin, meaning that they will proceed to watch her development and are highly interested in recruiting her in the future!

Her Fame comes from how she presented herself during the earthquake, and being affiliated with the famous Hero Office.
