Crimes happen all the time. There was nothing surprising about that, and people either continued their day as normal, or watched and waited for a hero to come by to handle the situation that could delay people from work. A situation that usually involved shouting the names of their attacks at the top of their lungs, just to make a big and flashy entrance. That kind of thing had always annoyed him about heroes. Although like most things he was irritated by, it was quick to go away. His own annoyance wasn't going to change anything. And the work required to even make a difference, was one he wasn't interested in performing, as beneficial as it would be for him. He had lived a good life of bounty hunting, growing up in the states, rather than here in Japan. And although not retired, he simply didn't care enough to stop the crimes he saw. It would be handled in an hour at best, if not in 10 minutes. Just watching the people around him mutter and ask about whether or not anyone had an appropriate quirk, was entertaining enough. That was his earlier thought, seeing an apparent jewel thief running by, while walking into a grocery store. And much later when walking out, seeing two kids who he doubted actually had hero licenses, go up against a giant gorilla wearing a monocle over it's eye. Entertaining, but nothing he particularly cared to stick around for. Neither the screams of the people too close to the action, nor the buildings suffering from the damages of the fight, bothered him. If anything, anyone who gave him a glance, would likely say he had better things to care about. Sleep was the usual question brought up. His pale skin already made him stand out, but the genetic bags under his eyes was another thing entirely. It made him look like he might have been on the brink of passing out. And in truth, he was. While he blamed it on his ghoul heritage, that being out in daylight felt like it took up double the energy of a normal person, it was likely just his habit of lounging around all day wearing on him. Excluding his activity at night, it was rather rare for him to be out and about. But having run out of supplies he couldn't just have shipped to him, it wasn't like he really had much of a choice on the matter. A decision he would loathe all he wanted, when he returned home. "What are the chances these kids handle things, before one of the followers of Spectrum shows up?" A man nearby him was on the phone, his conversation audible in the gaps of the stomping going on with the giant ape chasing after two children, for whatever reason the animal had. That was right. Spectrum's office was here in Tokyo. The team also had enough followers all over the world, and the right experience, to handle an issue like a giant ape running around the streets. Though he was also reminded of the rarity of a giant quirk in the first place. The damages that happened to buildings in the city, usually was the result of crashes. Either by the heroes themselves, or the villain being sent flying through one. That was the extent he really cared about the matter however. He continued on passed the man, making sure to avoid going in the same direction as all of the rumbling that was going on and being caused by the giant ape. (The basis of this thread will somewhat go off of Raikou's one, since a bystander view seems fun.) |

Nathaniel emerged onto the scene. His dark brown eyes falling over the chaos as he simply watched from a respectable distance. This was Nat for "Basically in the heat of things himself" as he was close enough to the action to be hit by stray gorilla hair. The slightly obnoxious aroma confused him, he was unsure if it was sweaty kids or gorilla stank but honestly he was staying to find out. To most he probably looked like some strange outsider, his dark skin standing out among the crowds of paler men and women. Although he was incredibly inconspicuous, he was calm and sort of watched everyone run around him, stepping backwards and forward, weaving around the people panicking around him. Nonchalant as ever he merely waved his hand dismissively, turning away from all the strange happenings of the city. People were calling in for help as the would be heroes fought, making Nat a bit curious. It was a few moments until he had simply dismissed it as the bystander effect. 80% of the population had a quirk, most didn't want to be heroes, most didn't want to even lift a finger to aid anyone else. Danger, training, etc. It was all a sack of excuses anyway. You didn't have to be a hero to make a difference, nor did you need a quirk. As obligated as he felt to help others, the obligation quickly faded when he realized how crappy their attitudes were. Today Nathaniel was dressed simply. He wore fitted jeans, beige in color, his top simply a black tank top. On his left wrist he wore a simple black watch and around his neck a navy blue bandanna. He wore his black air forces today, feeling a bit relaxed as he strolled through the streets of Tokyo amidst the chaos. Something about this all was peaceful to him and he was unsure why exactly. The sheer number of kids taking pictures for snapchat and instagram was a bit odd to him though. Kids these days were a bit strange to him. At this rate he would find himself bored and home training again within the hour. People were strange and honestly he wasn't that interested in the people around him. Reaching into his afro he began rolling his fingers in the shadow nest a top his head. He pulled a black glob from his hair and began bouncing it off the ground several times. With his pointer finger he made a hole in the top of the ball, the orb now a yo-yo as it dipped and returned to him while he continued his little stroll. |

The rumbling didn't stop. Though that much wasn't surprising. These were a couple of kids trying to be heroes, and as far as he could bother recalling, he didn't remember seeing those two in the Sports Festival awhile back. So they couldn't have had any good quirks. The strong ones of the younger generation already showed themselves, with last year's champion, still being the talk of the town, even with her throne taken by a different girl. She would have no issues stopping this ape. Might cause some cracks in the earth, and the fall of a couple of buildings, but the issue would have stopped in an appropriate amount of time, instead of a game being made out of it. Which was what had to have been going on now. Whether it was the ape who was toying with the kids, or the other way around, this part of Tokyo would suffer from the destruction that was being caused, and all for fifteen minutes of fame. But who was he to really talk? His night life consisted on quenching a thirst for adrenaline, and his own amusement. Although he was far from being sympathetic to what was currently going on with these kids. He had a right to do what he wished in regards to the law. Education was a thing long in the past, he had no family around to really nag on him, and a majority of his ties here lied with criminals of the city, rather than with the heroes. That was the difference in their actions. Having enough years and experience to know and accept the kind of consequences that decisions can have on things. Something these kids didn't seem to really understand. Walking out of the alleyway he took as a detour, he found that the area he was headed towards, was starting to be sanctioned off by crosstape, due to some damages from a building. He frowned. It was only for a second or so however, his free hand rubbing the back of his neck, as he approached one of the officers who had set up the crosstape. "How long will it take for all of this to be cleaned up? I'd rather not take the other way back because of a condition." A condition known as laziness. "Ah, sorry for the inconvenience. It'll take a couple of hours, but if you've got the time, you're free to wait over there." "Thanks." He cared not about the apologetic bow the man had given, but rather the look given to him. Society might have been filled with all sorts of quirks that tampered with appearances, though that didn't mean a scary one, wasn't any less scary to those around them. And his ghoulish heritage was one which some people, like this man, feared. Sharp teeth having been bared towards the man, he had gone back near the alley where he had entered, and took a seat on the ground, legs blocking the sidewalk. Though it wasn't like it was going to see any use for another couple of hours. Closing his eyes and remaining still, those who noticed him might have thought he was dead, if not for the lack of blood seeping out of his body, or on the ground below him. Didn't mean he still wouldn't find any ignorance amusing. |

So much chaos. Everywhere he turned he found destruction and chaos. The screams only seemed to get louder as everyone ran passed him, causing him to wonder just how many people were actually in the vicinity. Heroes couldn't evacuate an area, how many people in those buildings were killed during all the chaos? Nathaniel was suddenly feeling like he no longer wanted to be around any of this. The thoughts of it all made him feel uneasy at best, being flashy was never the best idea, discrete was best. A planned assault could easily capture and stop a villain within a few moments, not through prolonged combat in civilian packed sections of the city. Villains kept outsmarting heroes in that regard, most heroes weren't even paying attention to that. They just wanted the bad guy apprehended. Nathaniel paused for a moment, looking around as he searched for a place to go, somewhere with little chaos so he could ponder. His eyes locked onto an alleyway, not too far from his current location, other side of the street. He prepared to turn before the large ape man came barreling backwards, making the young man pause as he quickly went back to the fray. Nathaniel blinked several times and then continued his journey forward. The sounds of car alarms blaring, babies crying and the odor from the alleyway made Nat reconsider why he was even here to begin with. He just had to cross the odor to get away from it all, otherwise he'd feel forced to step in. He continued his thoughts on the irony of heroism as he choked a bit from the smell of rotting garbage and bacterial swamps. It was then he stumbled onto a man on the other end of the alleyway, his head tilting as he approached and looking at him with a curious look. He didn't know their was an ugly quirk. He reached into his afro, pinching the shadows on it as he pulled, revealing a stick, perfectly straight in nature. With it, he did the only appropriate thing and responsible thing here, poked the man to see if he was alive. Nathaniel jab at his ribs several times, not really touching him until the last, just to see if he'd react at all. Maybe he'd have to report a corpse. |

White noise. That was what everything around him was starting to become, now that his eyes were closed. Being out here wasn't completely different from listening to the TV back at home. And the rumbling caused by the giant ape, was more like a weird massage chair. Something he usually didn't care much for, but out here like this, the feeling was nice. So he didn't fight off the approach of sleep calling to him, his original idea of messing with the policeman forgotten, as his mind had gone and blanked out from the waking world. Life continued on without him, as the foot traffic that had taken this route as well, were given the option of either going the route back, or waiting like he had chosen to do. Most had left grumbling at the inconvenience, though a few had chosen to stick around, for reasons one could obviously guess, such as disliking the job they were likely stuck with. A few eyes drifted over the sleeping body, although none really cared to approach. There were no obvious signs of injuries after all, and the policemen were right there. Nothing to worry about, right? But the man with the Afro deciding to approach the body, brought curious stares as a stick was produced and jabbed. One. Two. A policeman, the same one who saw the sleeping man as scary, seemed to have dashed over as quick as he could. "Please try not to wake that man. He is fine." The tone that had been placed somewhat resembled pleading, although as an officer of the law, there had to have been some kind of professionalism shown. So instead of groveling before the civilian, the officer had tapped his baton on his leg, as a way of getting attention without having to lay a hand on him. Only after the prodding had stopped, did the policeman let out a sigh. An action that seemed to cause the sleeping body to react, as bones hardened into spikes, had jutted out. "Great." Willing his bones back into his body with a wince, the torn clothing revealing bits of peeled back flesh, up until he was done, and the wounds had quickly healed itself. There was no apparent scarring, from what was revealed of his skin, though the new holes left in his shirt was clear. The officer had stepped back, appalled at the sight before him. He turned back around and went to join his co-workers, failing to hide that he was a little shaken up. An amusing sight, before his attention was turned to the one who poked him. "I'd say we're even." Pulling himself up from the ground, the sound of his grocery bags rattled, as he began walking towards the crosstape. Both behind him, and up ahead at where they had sanctioned the area off, there did seem to be a cleanup crew working. "Hey, stop! It's not safe!" Ignoring the warnings behind him, he hopped over, and took off in a dash. He had thought he was going to be okay with waiting, but boredom seemed to have struck. With everything going on from the attack, he was no different than anyone else running away from the action. |

Oh look an officer. This didn't feel like it would end in racial profiling at all. Nathaniel straightened his posture as the man spoke, seeming to beg as he asked him to leave the man alone. The ninja's eyes fell onto the pale man before looking back to the cop who was seeming to become quite impatient as he tapped his leg. Raising his brow he began to tap his own leg with his construct, wondering why he thought this was a good idea. Was he threatening him? He didn't get much further into the thought as spikes ripped out of the boy's body, Nat jumping back a steps almost instinctively, holding the stick like a sword with both hands. He gripped tightly as it spoke, great? He somewhat expected time to freeze and a health bar to raise up on the end of the alleyway. This had to be some kind of video game right? He was way too calm for someone jabbed out of their sleep in the middle of an alley. Then again, he was probably over reacting. The man stood up, the cop having already left, leaving Nat and the man alone in the alley. He stood and walked slowly away from the black teen, Nathaniel ridding himself of the construct, the weapon fading like fleeing embers into the air around him. He took his time, following behind the guy, waiting to see what he would do, hoping he wouldn't just harm the cops. On the bright side he didn't, on the other, he was now running for his life on the other side of the tape. Nathaniel was dumbfounded was that entire interaction just now just a facade. Was he not as calm and collected as he had seemed? The cops shouted at the boy as Nat approached, turning to them he just shrugged, jumping over the tape and dashing in after him. He wanted to know why he was running, guess he would find out soon. The Jamaican teen found himself jumping over debris everywhere, his hands slapping the backs of workers as he leapt over them and refused to give up the only interesting thing to happen today. |

This was only one part of Tokyo. Had this been an attack on the whole city, The Spectrum's famous mech would be stomping around right about now to handle the threat, while civilians were evacuated. Getting people to safety was supposed to be the main priority of someone who called themselves a hero, and while that was happening, it wasn't really by these two kids. The police force, who were a mix of both quirk users and normies, had been the ones directing traffic away from what was going on, with confirmation on both ends. And that was as much as he paid attention to it. Skipping over the construction site, and making his way back to normal streets, he found enough comfort to slow back to a walk, while adrenaline pumped through his body. Compared to everyone else that was around, he stood out with his slow approach through a damaged area, but with the safety of many being a priority, it wasn't like it was anything of immediate concern. Here in Japan, he didn't have much of a reputation. All he really was to the officials in the area, was a licensed 'hero' who was more of a freelancer, than someone who really had an agency managing his business. But that was how he liked it. Having an active license gave him the credentials to do whatever he felt like doing, since he had the proper training done to show he could handle himself fine. No one could tell him otherwise, no matter what empty threats they could possibly give. In a society where powers existed, but a majority were inferior, life could be mundane. He had no qualms with doing something like scaling off a building, just as long as it fulfilled his reason to live. As long as it brought excitement into this life where your own body function played a big part into what kind of living you could make. A yawn escaped him. The result of being out in the sun for this long, and actually thinking about things beyond listening to anime and the cheesy lines it often had. He was quite aware of the man that had followed him for whatever reason, though hadn't really cared about the guy's existence, beyond the interaction they had. They were getting pretty close to his one story house however, and he didn't like the idea of people knowing where he lived. It had nothing to do with racial stereotypes. He had grew up in New York, after all. And went to a school where fights had happened all of the time, for the most trivial reasons one could possibly imagine. It was just that people being aware of his existence, meant possibly bumping into them again later on, and forming some kind of relationship that would be too much work. He came here to Japan to relax in his own way, and had acquaintances at best. Nothing more or less. So suddenly stopping on the sidewalk as people continued moving past them, he raised an eyebrow. Though only for a brief few seconds. No need to put in that kind of energy. "You need something?" |

Puddles, holes in the ground, and damaged buildings were all Nathaniel really kept his eyes on his he gave chase. He honestly just enjoyed running, his feet keeping good pace with all the chaos of the workers around him. His feet tapping a rhythm to which they worked in his head. He had swung from girders, leapt over potholes and flipped over the odd power tool. Honestly, he was just having fun. The boy didn't get to go all too far when the man he had been chasing was already paused and awaiting his arrival. Nathaniel jumped over the final hurdle, a set of concrete slabs made to block entrance. Clearly made by a quirk user due to the design and speed in which these were laid out. They reacted quickly, where were these guys when he...never mind. The Teen swung his legs around, sitting on the barricade as he looked onto the man, laziness coded into his posture as he looked the man up and down. Lucky for him, he spoke first. "I need a lot of things." He began, his right hand sweeping through his hair, his tall afro bouncing in the wind as the screaming, now sounding almost distant continued to provide background noise. Nathaniel looked both ways before returning his eyes onto the man in front of him. "I just wanted to know...if you believed in balance." Nathaniel looked at him with a gentle gaze, a semi serious, semi jesting question as a smirk etched itself into his brown skin. His chest and abdomen exposed to the open air as he propped himself onto the floor and walked closer to the male. "If you do, where on this scale do you think we fall?" He added, his Gi kind of just doing it's own thing as parts of it hugged his toned body, the rest leaving his body bare. His fitted black jeans had signs of wear, but it was hard to tell what was fashion and what was accidental at this point. He dropped his air forces onto the ground several times, the black shoes seeming not to care as dust layered their tops. Nathaniel simply gazed at the man, studying him as he waited. |

He wasn't a charity case. This society might have been a painful existence, for a quirk like his, but he still put in work to earn cash, just like anyone else. And this guy was old enough to find a job. He was going to just leave and head towards his house, especially after seeing the teen look both ways for whatever reason, if not for the words that came out of his mouth. Was he serious? The eyes had said he was, though it was in a way that sounded like the boy was trying to sound smart with this question. Which to be honest, wasn't anything of the sort. Out of all of the things the guy could do during an attack on part of Tokyo, he actually chose to try and start a philosophical discussion with a stranger he had only recently run into. Laughable. That's what it was. And he wasn't the sort to really show happiness for anything beyond inducing adrenaline into his body. Beyond making an enemy wonder if they would die. So why not humor the boy? "Balance isn't the right word. You're thinking about groups. And we're with the rest of those who couldn't care less about a gorilla chasing down two kids. Besides, it could be worse." His last statement meant more than just dismissing the crime going on as childish. It was an implication that if chaos were to be caused, it would go beyond just one part of Tokyo. He held a finger up at the teen, a sign that meant to wait. He wasn't used to all of this talking he had been doing so far. And besides, the stuff he bought should really be placed away. So he had. He continued on to where he was going, his place of residence, not particularly caring whether or not the guy chose to continue following. He just didn't care anymore. The stuff he had bought, was just tossed inside, door left open, and he headed towards his room. If chaos was being caused, and so far didn't seem like it would be ending anytime soon, then the reasonable thing to do would have some fun. And to do that, he needed his suit. Wasn't as good quality as his last one, but he wasn't worried about whether or not his body got a few tears here and there. With how his quirk worked, it wasn't anything unusual. He just needed to hide his face. |
