Shiori was holding up her phone with her cybernetic hand as she covered her mouth with the back of her normal hand to stifle the chuckle escaping her lips. It wasn't like she was making fun of him for what he had said exactly. More so it was the fact that he was saying things so earnestly. She herself never had the chance to have such feelings as a child, but since she had come here she had known moments quite like the situation he described. She recalled one fondly. The very first day she had managed to get the projector working.

It had been a rainy day, and being forced to stay inside she had been working on getting some sort of power restored to the old theatre. She had been sitting in the front row of theatre number 4, just below this room. An old scary movie was playing on the projector for the first time. The disc had still been in the projector as she found it and she had decided to give it a watch before she had found more discs spread across the rest of the theatre's projector rooms. So she was there, all alone watching a movie playing just for her, the first thing to touch the old theatre's screen in a while.

She had been huddled beneath a blanket, hugging her pillow when the unrealistic but still frightening scenes gave her a sort of fright that felt almost enticing. I was probably because of the fact that in the back of her mind she knew such an unreasonable thing wouldn't happen in the real world. The rain had been pouring down onto the roof, the rhythm accompaniment of the falling droplets reinforcing the tone of the atmosphere. But rather then be scared she had felt a kind of safety, being huddled in her own little castle where for once she was just by herself and everything scary out in the world was for the very first time 'out there' while she was in here.

She smiled happily as the memory replayed in the back of her mind. She was already typing a new message on her phone as she pointed towards a door in the back of the projector room. With the phone turned towards him she gave him a small wink as she stood up.

  • Well, I still have more to show you~ I'll be back in a bit, that door leads out onto the balcony. If you go out that way I'll go bring today's haul up here. I have something good to show you, since your interested in robots! |

She was starting to walk towards the stairs from which they had come up into the projector room but halted after a few paces. She scratched her head and threw gale an apologetic smile. She had forgotten to say something pretty important after all so she held up the phone towards him with a small blush and avoided her eyes.

  • Ahh, you should take the candle with you. It's kind of dark in there until you turn on the power. There should be a switch just outside the door. You'll know it when you see it! |

And with that message and a small wave of her hand she was gone before he could well and truly protest, having disappeared down the stairs, presumably to fetch the cart of electronics she had scavenged. But that left Gale all alone. In a girl's room, in an old abandoned theatre. Well... at least he had the lights on now, but she WAS sending him of alone into another dark place wasn't she....?

"Well... my mom says the same thing." Gale sheepishly replied to the message Shiori sent him. Watching her try and hold back a chuckle fluttered his heart. It was the only audible noises that came from the girl's own mouth so it was kind of like a little treat to have her laugh a little.

He watched as she softly reminisced over some kind of memory. Hopefully, a good one considering that the girl seemed to have through so many different types of trauma growing up. She was already typing up another response for her and when she pointed to another door his curiosity was piqued. She had stood up and presented him with the message and a parting wink before leaving. "Alright I'll take a look." he said his eyes peering to the ominous door leading to the balcony.

Though Shiori made it a point to advise him to take a candle with him since it would be pretty dark in there. "Oh right, wouldn't want to trip and fall on something in there." He reached for the candle, carefully holding it in front of him so he could see ahead of him. If this were a horror movie this would be the part where he would open the door and find something disturbing. Like a pile of rotting corpses, a bunch of hostages tied down for torture, or some sort of magical sacrificial ceremony going on. Then she'd appear right behind him and knock him out or stab him or something terrible like that.

Terrifying as the thought was Gale was convinced more so that Shiori wasn't going to just stab him in the back or... do something unsettling to him. After all, it might just be a really nice room.

Pushing the door open he could tell that from the deepness of the darkness that the balcony had to have been rather big. Considering that it overlooked the entire theater. He could see what likely would've been the large screen that the balcony overlooked. Though he doubted that the little generator that Shiori had would be able to power the screen all by itself.

Gale carefully held the candle up and around, trying to find the lightswitch that would power up everything. At first, he imagined that it was going to be one of the usual small switches that would flick up and down. But looking around he didn't see that and his leg would occasionally get caught in what looked to be electrical wiring. Eventually, after fumbling in the darkness he came across a switch, one of those really old switches that were probably used in a horror movie to activate an electrical chair or something. Nonetheless, he put the candle down and gripped the switch before flipping it to what had to be the ON setting.

After a few faint flickers, the lights finally lit up the balcony and the area below. The sudden lights once again causing Gale to wince and shut his eyes closed for a few seconds to readjust.

But when his eyes did begin to open they looked around at the marvel he saw. Wires upon wires were connected to old fashioned bulky computer sets. the sound of whirring fans and their electrical processes hummed and gave life to the once dark and lifeless balcony. There were stacks upon stacks of what Gale had assumed were old and outdated computer units that were all connected to one another. How long had it taken her to set all this up? To scrounge up junk from the streets or old antique shops to put this all together? Weeks? Months?

Mor importantly what would she have a set up like this for? He recalled that she was looking for scraps in the dumpsters and had that shopping cart full of supplies. She clearly hadn't just made this for the fun of it. No there was a purpose to it, there had to be. Of course, it didn't take long for Gale to find out what it was that was meant to be produced here. After all, it was presented right in front of him on a grand pedestal.

From the looks of it was some kind of cybernetic fist. Though it wasn't completely finished from the looks of it. "All this for a fist?" He had to wonder how much work was put into it for her to have essentially made this workshop dedicated to the fist. Maybe this was a prototype for something bigger, but it seemed that all this for just one project seemed rather excessive. Though she did have much to work with so perhaps she just had to use everything she had to make this.

His mind wandered as to why she would make this, though. Her cybernetic arm seemed to work well enough for what he saw. Unless she wanted to make improvements it didn't make much sense to him as to why she would want to make another.

His thoughts lead him to wander around the workshop, carefully not tripping over the exposed wires t mess up what Shiori had made. His eyes locked onto what seemed to be a highly detailed picture of a human being, though Gale quickly recognized said woman as Shiori herself. It had a disturbing look to it, though it was disturbing more so because it was images of her own anatomy with replicants of her body with cybernetic parts. They were all finally detailed about what went where and how the parts would fit over her body.

He turned away his face flushing red. He felt as though he was looking at prohibited material. Like he wasn't meant to see all of that, and ye it was already ingrained in his head. All the parts of her that could become covered in metal and cybernetic parts. Did she make those herself or did someone do it for her? His memory was reminded of the cut marks on her shoulder and how her parents seemed rather... abusive. Though the fact that Shiori had this workshop all for herself probably meant that she was doing this of her own will.

And thus another bit of tension began to well up in him. For one thing, it wasn't his business to tell people how they live. People had their own business and problems. That's why he usually refrained from scanning people without their knowing. It was rude for one thing, and sometimes you might find out more than you'd like or more than they'd like. Yet... part of him worried about this fascination for cybernetics. He'd be lying if he said he had no preference between flesh and metal, after all, the touch of a woman was meant to be warm and soft not cold and hard. How far would Shiori be willing to go for... this form? One arm? Two arms? Legs? Would she cease being human if she went too far?

All these thoughts muddled his mind as he looked at the gauntlet. That, while impressive would likely lead to a slippery slope he didn't feel very comfortable standing next to. Though maybe he was worrying too much about it after all, the young woman had clearly put in a lot of work for this piece. It would be ruder for him to say that she ought to scrap it than to be genuine in his feelings of being impressed. Heck, maybe he'd be able to help put the finishing touches on it. Though she'd have to come back up here first...

Shiori stayed gone for a while, a few minutes gale passed alone on the solitude of the balcony. Then the doors on the ground floor of the theatre opened up and the now familiar jingling sound of the shopping cart being pushed forward over the carpet reached up to the balcony. The doors closed moments later with a muffled slam as she closed them behind her. From his vantage point on the balcony, Gale could see her push the cart down towards the front row of the empty theatre, while all the seats had been removed from the balcony to make room for the shoddily improvised work space the room below was nearly completely filled with row upon rows of seats still.

Reaching the very front row she turning the cart on the inclined ramp that lead towards the balcony, likely a measure that the theatre had had when it was still opened, to allow the less bodily able patrons of the metroplex to get up to the balcony. Shiori pushed the cart up against it by placing her back against it. Considering how much electronic junk she had loaded in it, it was a bit of a struggle to get the cart up to the balcony. When she finally made it all the way up the ramp to join gale, she ran the palm of her hand across her brow to wipe away the sweat drops that had formed there. With a soft sigh she raised her human arm above her head and grabbed her elbow with her cybernetic hand to stretch herself out after what seemed like some considerable effort.

She saw Gale looking towards the half completed gauntlet in the centre of the room and greeted him with an enthusiastic smile. The child like wonder and enthusiasm was evident on her face as she motioned him to follow her. She leaned over near one of the nearly antique CRT monitors standing on top of a stack of old fashioned computer cases and pulled the keyboard and mouse towards her, pulling up a blueprint of the gauntlet's completed design. It was quite evident that some of the parts were still completely missing.

Apparently the thing was meant to contain a chemical fuel admixture chamber with an electronic ignition system inside of a combustion chamber that surrounded the entire arm in a ring like formation. Vents from the outside would suck in air and direct the exhaust from that central chamber through four jet nozzles at the very end of what was looking to be a much bigger and bulkier device then the skeletal construction that laid completed on the table. It was also evident that if someone were to actually wear this thing over a human arm they would get some rather serious burns from the fact that the arm was literally meant to go through the centre of that combustion chamber. Fortunately it seemed that the arm was right handed, much like her cybernetic arm was.

At least for the moment it seemed like this device was meant to interface with his existing cybernetic, and she wasn't yet going to cut of an arm to wear it at least. Oblivious to his concerns though, she gave him a look that was equal parts smug pretence and pure enthusiasm as she nearly ran back over to the cart and held up the electronic cooking plate with a triumphant grin. She was typing a message on her phone as she walked back towards him with a wide smile and held the screen out towards him to allow him to read the hastily typed message;

  • What do you think? It's cool right? I finally found something with an electronic ignition that will allow me to safely ignite the fuel mixture. You said your interested in this kind of stuff right, I will have to adjust the connection between this and my arm so I could use some help. It would take me so long to do that with just hand by myself you know! |

Gale wished he had noticed Shiori pushing the cart up the ramp much earlier. Poor thing didn't deserve to push up that heavy load all by herself. The fact that she seemed to struggle to bring her human limb over her forehead without the help of her arm. Though it didn't seem to bother her as she was far more interested in showing him the grand design for the gauntlet she was creating. He followed him somewhat hesitantly afraid of learning some dark hidden truth about the gauntlet. Though he sighed in relief knowing that it was just the designs of the gauntlet and not some ingenious master plan to take over the world with a doom fist or something of that nature.

Looking over the details of the gauntlet it made sense now as to why it would need a metallic armpiece for it. Unless you were resistant to burns you'd likely have to deal with painful burns from having your arm come in contact with te combustion chamber. He smiled knowing that he wouldn't have to be doing any actual surgery, though he was confident that his hands would be able to make precise cuts and connectionsw ith wires he wasn't a surgeon that was meant to work on humn flesh. In a wierd way her request was more tame than he had expected.

"Yeah I can do that, though you'd be the first person who's cybernetic arm I've ever actually done work on. Still I think that I've got the dexterity to do this."

He paused, the welling question in his gut forcing it's way into his mouth as he looked at her cybernetic arm. "It's cool and all... it really is. I'm just wondering about all these pictures." He pointed to all the drawings on the wall. "Did you do this? You know, do you want to be all mechanized like this?"

Shiori was somewhat taken aback by the question. To be honest there were days.. days where she shivered just remembering the burning sensation of someone's hands on her skin. When she just wanted to tear all of it away just to stop the feelings she remembered from welling up inside of her. She shivered slightly as she typed a message on her phone. She seemed almost hesitant to show him. She looked between her phone then him then closed her eyes and held out the phone with her trembling hand.

  • Ah... Is it.. weird? All these machines didn't work anymore, I found them, fixed them. Made new things from broken things. But no matter how much I tried.. I am still broken. My arm still doesn't work right. Sometimes... sometimes I do wonder If I should fix myself. This arm at least. |

She pulled back the phone letting her human arm hang by her side, grabbing onto it with her cybernetic and stroking her elbow as she looked away from him. her lip trembled almost as if she was about to say something but the only sound she let out was a guilty whimper. She glance back towards gale and took a single step forwards. She had an odd sort of look on her face, something halfway between trepidation and determination as she reached out towards his face with her cybernetic arm. As her fingers touched the band-aid on his cheek she recoiled slightly but she bit her lip and once more extended her fingers softly brushing against the bandage.

She looked him straight in the eyes as her fingers cold and lifeless lingered on his cheek with a soft gentle pressure so at odds with the coldness of the metal. For a moment she just stood there like that, not a word passing between them, the only exchange that of two sets of eyes staring into one another for an uncomfortably long moment. Then she took a step back and the moment was over. She raised her left hand to type a message on her phone, she couldn't look him in the eyes again as she held up the phone. Her cheeks were coloured in a bright blush that made her pale skin seem to be almost on fire as she shyly avoided looking directly at him.

Posted Image
  • I saw you.. desperately tugging at this when you were scared. You understand don't you? The feeling of someone taking something precious from you. I feel their hands on my skin every moment I am alone. It never stops. Like an itch I can't scratch even if my skin is bleeding from how much I tried. In the worst moments.. I... I sometimes think it would be better if it was gone. If I couldn't feel it anymore like my other arm. Those drawings comfort me, they are my fantasy that let me escape. Just for a second... |

When she pulled back the phone she hugged it against her chest, close to her heart. She had never really been in a position to say that to anyone. No, nobody had ever cared enough to ask. Seen enough of this place to KNOW to ask. And now there was someone here, a stranger she barely knew and she was pouring out her heart without even knowing why. All of the things she bottled up inside were welling up in her chest. Even though she didn't know exactly what she was feeling, whether it was sorrow or relief. Even though she didn't even realise it. The tears were running down her cheeks. Her lips were smiling awkwardly, sadly, to match the droplets rolling from the corners of her eyes across her cheeks. But even so it made her happy in some bizarre way to have finally said it.

One of the tears, having rolled down her cheek all the way onto her chin fell from there down onto the back of her hand. The wetness suddenly bringing the realisation that she was crying. Hurriedly she raised her hand to brush away the tears as she used her cybernetic to type a message that she held out towards Gale, smiling through the tears with a confidence she wasn't entirely sure she felt or not.

Posted Image
  • I'm sorry. I don't really understand why my tears won't stop. I... I don't know how to answer. Maybe I do want to be like that sometimes. I.. I just don't want to feel like this. But I don't know how else to be... I'm broken.. and I don't know how to fix me in any other way.. |

There was an eerie silence between the two of them as Gale waited to hear what Shiori's answer to her question would be. He hoped he didn't come off as insensitive or rude, but he was admittedly concerned. When she held up her phone with a trembling hand he worried that he might've brought up unpleasant thoughts that he didn't intend to. Reading the message on the phone seemed to be tormenting him as much as it did her.

She thought herself broken, broken as a human and so she had to fix the broken pieces of herself.

He seemed to shrink himself, feeling the guilt of his own words bringing back unpleasant thoughts to the girl. Why did he have to speak? Watching as she brought her cybernetic hand over her human arm and rubbing it gently softened his gaze. Hearing her guilty whimpers made him echo her movements as he rubbed his own arm. What if he was like her? What if he had been abused in such a manner that he hated his own flesh? He could make cybernetic limbs if he wanted to, he could've replaced parts of himself with cold metal to forget the pain if he had wanted to.

His thoughts were dashed as Shiori took a step towards him. The look on her face paralyzed him, but not out of fear, but more out of intrigue. What did she want from him? What could he offer her? He wanted to help... and more than just making her a gauntlet or with her technology. He wanted to help her not... hate herself.

He winced as her cold metalic finger brushed against his band-aid. Not particularly because it hurt, but because it just flashed a small image of that terrible night. But overcoming the memory was easier than it had been earlier that night. And his eyes met with Shiori's and he stared back. Wondering what he ought to be looking for in her eyes. His heartbeat seemed to echo loudly in his head as the moment lingered. Were they trying to find something to connect to one another? That in the silent, stares in one another that maybe they'd be able to see what tore at the very being of their soul?

But as long as the moment lasted it ended as Shiori pulled her hand away and with a blush began to type on her phone. Gale mimicking the flustered feeling as blood rushed to his cheeks once more. But as she held her phone towards him again she avoided looking at his eyes, leaving the message for Gale to read as he glanced over at her face for a moment before looking at the message.

His heart almost skipped a beat as he read the message. He had been underplaying how severe this whole situation had been. He almost seemed horrified as how negligent he had been about the situation, even though there was no way for him to know the scale of how severe it would be. At first he didn't say anything, what could he even say? He had never dealt with someone who had such pain ingrained in their being. For a moment he imagined if that incident with the psycho had been... magnified to not just his cheek, but to his arms, his legs, his body...

He probably would be rending his flesh from his bone if such a thing had happened.

He slowly stood up, though he avoided eye contact with Shiori as he did so taking a look at the drawings. An escape from the pain, even if for a moment would bring her relief from whatever it felt like. He could relate to that, maybe not to the same scale or severity that Shiori was feeling but escapism was a defense mechanism he used to. Creating gadgets in his free time would distract him from loneliness. Even if he was just there in the room by himself just tinkering away at metal or tools he wouldn't have to think that he was alone. In his dreams he could be whatever he wanted to be, he wasn't a loner in his dreams and he wasn't a loser either. He was grandiose, he was adored, he was... well he was what he wanted to be.

Sometimes it felt that he was escaping so much that he forgot who he really was. But that was better than being lonely and pathetic wasn't it? Isn't that what she's going through right now? Creating something else... being something else so that you don't have to worry about what you were.

His depressing thoughts came to a halt when Shiori had began to cry. Even though she was smiling her eyes flowed with tears that would send a completely different message. She hurriedly typed out something and showed it to him. He gripped his own chest reading the message as tears began to well up in his own eyes. He wanted to say something, say anything to cheer her up. to bring her out of that tormented ditch of pain that she was in. He wanted to embrace her in a hug, squeeze out whatever pain was poisoning in her from inside, he wanted to tell her that she was fine, that she wasn't broken, and that if she was that he would be the one to fix it. That he could somehow cure all her problems. That he had the magical solution to the complex web of problems that made her feel like she was a broken mess.

But he couldn't, he knew that no words he offered her would mend wounds so deep. That even the tender touch of his own body might not be able to fix her. And that's what tore at him the most, that he was powerless to help her, that he couldn't bring her out of the darkness on his own. Even when she had the courage and strength to do it he was powerless. He didn't have answers... all his words were hollow and meaningless.

So he stood there silently, tears silently flowing from his own eyes to his own cheeks. It had to have been minutes of torture for the both of them as the uncomfortable silence gnawed at the both of them. His lips quivered as thy desperatly wanted to say anything, anything to break the painful silence between them even if it hurt to speak it was better than suffering through this torture and longer.

"I'm sorry... I don't know." He wiped his face with his hand as he spoke the words. "I don't know either... I want to help but I don't know how..." He felt ashamed. Making her confront the pain and yet not providing any answers... any support... just his own self pity.

As he wiped his tears he felt the rough leather of his glove brush against his cheek. He still had it on him, and once he looked at Shiori's tearful face he had an idea. A small idea, just a bit of hope for the hopeless duo.

He took off his glove, wiping away whatever tears he had left before offering it to Shiori. He turned away, still ashamed of himself as he offered the glove for her to wipe her own tears away with. He wasn't even sure she'd accept it... but he had to hope that she would. He didn't have an answer to her problem... that killed him inside. But he hoped that he could at the very least be someone she could lean on, just someone she could share her pain and woes with.

Whether that got across with the gesture was up for Shiori to decide...

Shiori covered her mouth with her hand to silence her sobs. Between her own tears and seeing him unable to contain his. Whether the tears flowed down his face for her benefit or because she had reminded him of his own demons she did not know. But the overwhelming sadness she felt in seeing him cry in the helplessness he expressed in his words made her feel even worse. She wanted to help as much as he did. But like him she didn't know how. She was about to take a step forwards, her hand reaching towards him desperate to console him in anyway she could.

And then he held out a glove to her. A glove he had just used to wipe away his own tears. The moment make her freeze mid step. The sheer incredulity of what just happened slowly catching up as she stared dumbfounded between the glove and Gale. The gesture was sweet, adorable really. But it was so unexpected, such a step out of pace and so weird a thing to do that she was honestly unsure what to think. It was a glove, after all. She was reminded for some reason of how she had called him Shakespearean when they first met. It seemed such a long time ago but it was just this same evening and here they were. He might as well have been challenging her to a dual as offering her consolation.

The off beat moment was enough to halt the torrent of emotions welling up inside and turn them into something funny. Like an innocent word delivered at just the right time to be a hilarious pun despite never being meant that way. She Smiled through her tear stained face, a chuckle escaping her lips . She raised her fist in front of her mouth as she turned her head slightly aside, the knuckles just above her lips so he could not see her laugh. But it was to little to late.

"Ehehehe ehehehe ehahaha hahaha ahahahaaa ahahahaaa~"
The soft high pitched chuckle was one thing to try and hide, but she was unable to contain herself and burst into full on laughter. If that laughter was any indication of what she sounded like if she spoke she had a high pitched voice, her laughter was a little to cutesy and girly sounding to actually fit the way she looked. It was a soft feminine laugh that seemed not to fit the tall blond and still sometimes menacing looking cyborg at all. But it did sound natural, hearty and sincere to hear her laugh like that.

It worked...?

He almost seemed stunned by the fact that she had gone from crying to laughing in a feminine voice that had caught him off guard. It took him a few seconds before he seemed to break into a bit of laughter himself. "Pfft... haha... hahahaha!" It started soft but erupted as the contagious laughter spread from Shiori's lips to his.

It didn't solve anything really, he would still have dark thoughts of loneliness when this was all over, and he didn't really console the heart of Shiori's problem. But it was an escape for the moment, to just get caught up in the hilarity of the situation nd brush off the pain for a second. If only for a second.

He pulled his glove back and slid his hand back into it. He had in a way diffused the tension, turning his attention back to the gauntlet that she had asked him to deal with he wasted no time offering his help. He didn't want any lingering silence to make the situation awkward after all. "Alright, so how is this going to work? Need me to place the finishing touches on it? Then we get it into your arm I guess?" He seemed slightly more excited and pumped to be working on the mechanical piece now that he had gotten all that stress out of him.

She took a deep breath, it hadn't been the most sensitive way to break the tension between them. But both of them were laughing. It solved nothing but it felt better somehow anyway. Sharing things made them less hard to bear somehow. It was weird and it didn't really make sense but that made it kind of wonderful in it's own way. Every bit of laughter they shared between them made things a little less sad and sorrowful.

Gale was the first on to get his thoughts back together and he had a point, they really should get to it at this point so she gave him a nod and moved back toward the gauntlet. She pointed towards towards the two rings in the centre of the skeletal construction. Moving towards the computer she loaded up a program before standing up and inserting her cybernetic arm in between the rings and with her regular arm she pressed the enter key on the keyboard.

The soft hum of electronic motors caused the two discs to spin around her arm in a rather fast manner. As they spun inwards they became smaller and telescoped into one another to lock the arm into place between them. The hum of an electromagnet surging on locked it firmly in place around her arm. She lifted up the gauntlet of the table and showed it to gale. She opened her hand and closed it but the large mechanical fist on the end of the gauntlet did not move to mirror her cybernetic hand at all. Picking up her phone she typed up a message with her left hand and showed it to Gale.

Posted Image
  • Here is the problem. The locking mechanism is functioning but my cybernetic arm needs to have a port installed to allow it to control the fist on this gauntlet. The locking ring has a retracting connector in it that needs to line up with that port and then the hand needs to be calibrated to respond to the signals of my arm. |

She placed the gauntlet back on the pedestal and disengaged the locking mechanism. After removing her arm from the device she walked over towards one of the filling cabinets near the wall. She pulled open one of the drawers and pulled out a blueprint and a tool-belt filled with screwdrivers and other mismatched tools that all seemed to have been scavenged together from many different tool sets. She handed the tool belt toward gale and then folded open the blueprint on the table.

It was a detailed technical drawing showing the electronics inside. She took out a marker and circle a few spots on a circuit board located in her lower arm and handed gale what looked like... a usb extension cable. The end was cut up and the cable split open and she held up her phone towards him again.

  • So here what you do. Open up my arm. Cut a hole in the casing for the connector. Glue it into place. Solder the cable to the circuit board. Shouldn't be that hard right? |

Gale seemed to catch the flow of what Shiori was asking him. "Yeah I get ya, it's a rather simple thing but I can see why it would be hard to do by yourself." Looking over the blueprints that Shiori had left him and then looked over the tools that had been scrounged up. Though when Shiori handed him the usb cable he felt a little awkward.

It was like playing surgeon for the first time, though replace blood and flesh with metal and wires. The fact that he was going to be installing a usb cable into her arm seemed a little... suggestive? Maybe he was just over thinking it... it was just like any other electrical project right?

"Right... first time for everything." He said as he scanned over the blueprints once more to make sure that he didn't cause any damages by cutting in the wrong place or by poking something in the wrong way.

After opening up her arm he made sure to do another look over to make sure that everything was in its proper place before he got started. After grabbing the proper tools (even if they were kinda rusty) he went to work. His delicate hands were extremely dextrous as he made the precise cuts in for the hole that the cable. He would occasionally look up at Shiori to make sure that she was comfortable through the whole process. Once that was done, he took some glue and made sure that it was firmly in place. Making sure to press on it long enough so that the glue would keep them in place.

Taing the sodding iron was the most stressful part of it, mainly cause he didn't want to accidently burn himself or something. After twisting the ends of the wire he carefully placed it on the circuit board along with a small amount of solder, his other hand holding the soldering iron. Gently pressing the iron against the wire until it was soldered on. Quickly blowing on it to cool it down and harden it.

Pleased with his work he looked to Shiori with a small smile as he put away the tools. "I think I did a good enough job." he said with confidence as he inspected his work. "Want to give it a shot?"

Shiori just gave a small nod in response to gale saying that he was done. She took a deep breath and stood up. Moving the fingers of her hand in turn just to make sure everything was still working. Her fingers stretching and bending as she intended meant Gale at the very least had not screwed up, it did not necessarily mean that he did everything right either. She picked a USB cable out of the tangled mess of wires going into the gauntlet and plugged it into the newly installed USB port on her Arm. She sat herself down in front of the computer, typing in a few commands to pull up a program and started going through a list of commands for each individual movement of each finger. Activating the first command on the list, she recording the movement by making her cybernetic hand preform it.

After she recorded the movement, she send the generated code towards the gauntlet and put it into it's active mode. She then repeated the movement once more only to see the large powerful fist on the gauntlet was responding properly and mimicked the movement of her hand. A fact that made Shiori give Gale a smile to show that he had correctly made the connections and everything was working as intended. She typed a short message on her phone explaining that she had to do this for ever single movement her hand could make and it was going to take a while so he should grab a drink from the fridge in her room.

His response to her question was a witty remark that made Shiori laugh in response, but even so he still got up to get them both a soda. When he returned after a minute or so and tossed a can of soda Shiori's way she had progressed far enough that when she raised her cybernetic hand to catch it the gauntlets fist had 'learned' to interpret enough of the signals of her arm to mimic the movement of her hand closing around the can. Even so it would take over an hour for her to finish imputing all of the commands into the machine.

While she had been working on that, Gale had decided he would rather work then watch her do the exact same thing over and over, despite how interesting it had been the first few times. When Shiori unplugged the cable from her arm and ran a hand across her brow to wipe away the sweat that had gathered there, Gale had already dismantled the electronic heating plate by himself and assembled most of the electronic ignition system for the gauntlet from the parts based on the blueprints she had only shown him once. While it wasn't exactly the same as what she had originally designed, through his own unique style and innovations he had actually managed to build something more efficient then what she had originally designed.

The pair of them working together on building the remaining parts of the gauntlet saw them make great strides forwards. Through their mutual love of tinkering they managed to build something that far exceeded the sum of it's parts. They worked through failed prototypes, inadequate materials and picked each other up when things were literally frustrating them to the point of not knowing how to continue. Slowly but surely they transformed the pile of electronic garbage into a pile of cracked plastic covers, discarded parts and actual working parts that were mounted onto the Gauntlets frame as they went.

Hours stretched on as they worked and it had long since passed the time of morning, but sheltered on the balcony of the old movie theatre they had no sense of time. The theatre was meant to be dark even by day and without a clock to tell time by or any sunlight from the outside entering the theatre had turned into their own little bubble of the world lit only by electronic lights. They worked as only two mad geniuses could, through exhaustion and frustration, accomplishment and elation until finally all the parts where there.

They stood together over the gauntlet, blowtorch in hand and welding masks on their heads. They exchanged a look as they nodded to one another before lowering the masks onto their face. Gale turned open the valve on the tank and Shiori lit the torches flame. In the blistering heat they turned scrap metal into the outer armour and when finally the red hot metal had been welded together and placed around the gauntlet there was only one more thing to do. Diving into the last pieces of trash Shiori had collected in her Shopping cart and emerged with two spray cans in hand. A coat of dull black paint finished of the fruit of their labour and the sighed and sat down. Finally letting the fatigue catch up to them.

Shiori smiled at Gale after they had rested for a moment. Sharing the last of the Sodas's from the fridge. A welcome cool down after the scorching heat of the blowtorches. with a single look shared between them Shiori got up and walked towards the finished gauntlet. She placed her arm inside and this time as the interlocking mechanisms whirred to life inside of the protective cover it closed around her arm. The USB connector installed in the ring locked into place in the newly installed port in her arm and she finally removed the external cables from the device.

For the very first time she raised the device under it's own power. Closing the fist and opening it merely by the virtue of her thoughts. She smiled widely towards Gale, she walked towards the edge of the balcony and pointed her cybernetic arm straight down towards the rows of chairs beneath them. She braced herself as Gale moved up next to her. This was the crux of everything they had worked for. She held up her phone with her normal hand and showed it to him with a short message.

The night had been long, and the fact that Gale didn't have sleep from the previous night had already worn on him. Yet the illusion of the darkness probably kept him going despite his body seemingly asking him for sleep as his eyes felt heavy throughout the work. But this wasn't new to him, he had gone days without sleep before, and he was able to power through it from the bits of caffeine that the soda's provided. He's worked longer on less and probably not good for his health but he could do it.

So after the long hours of programming, tweaking, messing around with blow torches and of course getting a nice paint job their efforts had been rewarded. He would smile back at her as thy marveled at their product. Wiping his forehead as exhaustion slowly set in, yet the excitement of watching their work finished seemed to keep his blood pumping and his eyes wide open.

Watching Shiori finally lif the gauntlet and work it with her own strength brought a joy of completion to him. After all, what better pleasure than knowing that a job was done well. Even considering all the junk they used it seemed to be of decent quality and he felt a gadgeteers pride knowing that he helped forge it. Even if it was only towards the end of the project.

Reading Shiori's text he seemed enthralled to be able to give the magic words for the punch. "Hell yeah!" Though he made sure to clear his throat and drink some leftover soda beforehand to ensure that his voice wouldn't crack when he gave the awesome command.

Holding his own hand and imitating the classic gesture of firing one's own hand he sucked in the air as he prepared to shout the famous line.

At the exclamation of the "Hell Yeah!" Shiori gave a confident smirk and clenched the fist of the massive gauntlet. The soft hum of the electromagnets releasing was followed by the rising rumble of a jet engine sucking in air through it's intakes. Tension was mounting as gale took a moment to clear his throat with a nice gulp of soda as the ignition turned over inside the engine and as Gale's voice echoed through the theatre the rocket engine roared to life, Shiori's fist trembled for a moment as the sounds coming from the gauntlet sputtered and roared through the halls. Then the jet propelled gauntlet flew off her fist and straight into the rows of seats below knocking a couple of them off their mounting points and shredding a few more as it plowed into the ground from their vantage point and left a path of destruction in it's wake as it came to a stop and the engine sputtered before the flame died out.

Despite the shoddy materials they had to work with, despite everything that could have gone wrong it didn't it went exactly as they had hoped and perhaps even better. The smoke rose lazily from the exhaust nozzles of the now extinguished jet engine as Shiori looked down towards her arm with a huge childlike grin like she could barely believe what happened. Before punching her fist towards the sky with barely contained excitement but doing so entirely silently.

Gale's eyes had watched with glee as the fist shook for a few seconds before firing with intense speed into the seats of the theatre. The sound of the fist crashing into the seats and tearing some of them off their mounting while others had just been shredded from the impact. "Yes! That was awesome!" Gale pumped a fist into the air as he leaned over the balcony to see how the fist had held up. Considering all the work they put into it, his face beamed with pride as he saw the fist still intact. Nothing had broken, exploded, or malfunctioned on the fist as far as he could see from this point of view.

He looked at Shiori who seemed to be celebrating in her own right, deservedly so as the hard work she poured into it had finally come to fruition. Shiori, for her part had turned to look towards Gale. Her face was beaming with excitement as she took a step towards him. She was going in for a high five. But halfway in she hesitated and brought her hand only halfway up. The uforia of the moment was driving her but the uncertainty her body had felt for so long was still holding her back from touching another human being so easily.

Turning towards Shiori, Gale noticed that she seemed to be approaching him with her arm raised up about half way.He wasn't sure if she as going for a high five or if she was asking for a hug, considering all that she'd been through a high five seemed more appropriate yet it seemed that she was asking for a hug.

A little hesitant himself Gale took a step towards Shiori a hand raised up about halfway as well. It would be awkward enough for a high five especially considering how low her hand was so... did she want to be hugged? Gale seemed unsure of himself as he brought both hands up and slowly but gently embraced Shiori in her arms and pulled her close to him. She couldn't see it but his face was crimson red as he never gotten the chance to get this close to a woman before... at least not in this manner.

Shiori was mortified, she herself had invited this by not raising her hand high enough but never, not in a million years, had she counted on this sort of misunderstanding. She took a step back the moment Gale pulled her towards him, which resulted in about the only thing one could imagine such a scenario to lead to. The both of them went toppling back onto the ground of the balcony. Sprawled out amidst the middle of the cables crossing the floor. Gale had landed on top of Shiori, his hand atop something oddly soft and squishy. As he looked up after the rather rough landing and her eyes met his, her cheeks had coloured beet red. It didn't take a genius to know what his hand had ended up groping. "A-Ah s-sorry!" He frantically apologised matching Shiori's blush with as much intensity and fervour.

Her response though, was likely the last thing he had suspected. Usually this was the part where he got punched. or worse. Gale was already bracing himself for the impact, hoping against hope that she wouldn't punch him in the face at least. But no such hit ever came. Instead when he opened his eyes to see what was going on and why nothing has happened, Shiori was not meeting his eyes. She was looking away from him, her complexion turning a shade of crimson so rich she might have spontaneously become a tomato. And then she whispered.

"N-Not here."

The last words he had expected. No she HAD said them. The first words he had her say since he met her. The tantalising glimpses her laugh had shown were proven to be true, she had a soft feminine voice made even more surprising by the fact that her tone of voice sounded far from off put by the idea. Perhaps a bit confused but she actually said something like that. His head was spinning as he scrambled to his feet. HE wasn't sure what was going on but she sat halfway upright as he got to his feet and lifted his weight of her. Her hand closed around his wrist as she stopped him from getting up. Her eyes were looking up towards him as she whispered again.

"We can't...?"

It was halfway worded as a question and the only sound Gale was able to let out was gulp. Shiori got to her feet as well, her hand gliding from his wrist down to take hold of his hand as she walked towards the door leading into the projector room. The room where she slept. The only words he was able to stumble out of his mouth being; "O-oh boy.." before the door closed behind them.

Fade to Black
And the 'morning' after...

Gale was a dreamer, often his mind was clouded with thoughts of grandiose and glamour that often set his heart at ease. Delusions that would surf away the dark loneliness that he often felt in the long nights alone in his room. Yet this dream was different than his usual one. He wasn't being followed by a harem of girls or presenting a speech based on Gadgetry.

No this time he was alone in a grassy field. A pleasant wind blowing across his body. The sun was fading, just crossing the horizon painting an amber light across the skyline that slowly faded towards a deep violent. He was alone, and yet he felt at peace for once. There was a presence, like an ethereal body beside him. On without a form, or physical features, but it emitted a warmth as it sat beside him.

And the dream passed by like that, the lights passing by as he felt the comforting warmth of... something beside him. The violet light eventually faded to black, and as it passed by a wave of peace flowed over him. And then just comforting darkness...

Consciousness blinked back into Gale as a faint pink light irritated his eyes. For the first few seconds he didn't seem to take notice to his surroundings, his exhaustion making him simply bury his head back into the pillow he had been resting upon. Then he realized that he was sleeping on a... bed. For any normal person that would have been a standard, yet Gale was used to sleeping in a chair from long nights fo working on various projects.

Memories started flowing back into his mind as he riled himself enough to sit up in the bed. The room was mostly dark, only a small corner of the room being lit with a pink nightlight.

Was he back in his hotel? After that monstrous night... with that psycho... his hand reached for his cheek as he remembered how that bloody kiss had scarred him from that night. Yet as he reached for it his hands felt not flesh but... a band-aid? And as he looked down he noticed that he was shirtless, lifting his covers he noticed that those weren't the only articles of clothes that he as missing.

"What... what happened last..." His voice muttered as he tried to recount what had happened the previous day as he continued to scan the room. He had looked around for stuff to buy... met a girl... they went into a theater and... and...

A flashlight memory ignited the chain of events in his head as he swiveled his head to see Shiori resting in the bed beside him. Sound asleep... and likely undressed if his memories weren't lying to him. Which he had to make sure they weren't on the account that he also recalled having a few mental breakdowns. Yet the details of lasts nights events began to color themselves back into his memory. How they had made the rocket fist, the travels through the theater... even the warm events that occurred soon after the firing off the gauntlet was still very much fresh in his mind.

He gently laid back down onto the bed, his mind buzzing with all sorts fo concerns and thoughts. What was he going to tell his parents? Would he end up taking a longer stay in Japan than expected? How would his relationship with Shiori be from now on? Were they a couple? Was this a... one night stand type of thing? Were they going to be partners of sorts for just building all sorts of gadgets? Would he have to stop flirting now? Did he... wait did he use protection!?

He facepalmed as some sparse details escaped him. Yet despite that he turned in bed towards the sleeping cyborg. She looked so peaceful while she slept, but he had to wonder if that delicate face was still in pain. Was she still going to feel broken? Was this just another means of... escape for each of them? Nothing was set in stone really...

But he knew one thing, even though he didn't know how yet... or really if he could help Shiori overcome the demons of her past... he'd at least be there to try. He closed his eyes once more as the darkness called for him to sleep once more.

He'd be having good dreams for awhile now...

Comments:
An endearing storyline about two broken people trying to connect with one another. They don't have the answers, but at least they try. Gale's mental state was unsettling at times (for me), given how easily he was borderline going insane, but he got much better after simply talking to Shiori more. There were both cute and sad moments, so it wasn't too much of one thing. Also that fade to black.

The posts were a little long for my taste, but that wasn't a bad thing. It's just that when I read, I take my time to digest everything, so it took me a LONG time to get through this. Like multiple hours. I can tell you both put a lot of effort into this and your characters, so you get a kudos from me. Interested to see where their future character development takes them. Hope you enjoy my notes too, which I will probably never do in such detail again (though it was kinda fun writing my reactions).
